2 28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 2 OCTOBER 11, 2015 October is Respect Life Month Octubre es el Mes de Respeto a la Vida We remember the great dignity of each human life. Notice the word "each." This is significant. Too often we hear human life weighed in terms of certain qualities: age, past history, physical and mental limitations, etc. Yet, we believe that every human being is created in the image of God. Every human being is a sister or brother of Jesus Christ. Every man and woman is a son and daughter of God the Father. Not once did God ever make an exception to this truth. For this reason Pope Francis, in his address to congress, mentioned respecting human life at every stage of development. Over the next few weeks, I will reflect on the beauty of human life in all its various stages of development and in various situations: before birth, in advanced age, physical and mental handicaps, and criminals. Let us pray that all people will recognize the dignity and beauty of human life! Recordamos la gran dignidad de cada vida humana. Note la palabra "cada". Esto es significativo. Con demasiada frecuencia escuchamos la vida humana pesado en términos de ciertas cualidades: la edad, la historia pasada, limitaciones físicas y mentales, etc. Sin embargo, creemos que todo ser humano es creado a imagen de Dios. Cada ser humano es una hermana o hermano de Jesucristo. Cada hombre y mujer es un hijo e hija de Dios Padre. Ni una sola vez hizo Dios una excepción a esta verdad. Por esta razón el Papa Francisco, en su discurso ante el Congreso, mencionó respetar la vida humana en todas las etapas del desarrollo. Durante las próximas semanas, voy a reflexionar sobre la belleza de la vida humana en sus diversas etapas de desarrollo y en diversas situaciones: antes del nacimiento, en la edad avanzada, discapacidades físicas y mentales, y los criminales. Oremos para que todos reconozcan la dignidad y la belleza de la vida humana! School News: The students at Resurrection Catholic School have joined the Pope in helping to make the Earth a safer and greener planet. They have made it their mission to recycle ink cartridges and keep them out of landfills. You are invited to help them with this project by dropping off empty cartridges at the school office or the back door of the Middle School building. In addition to helping the environment, the school will earn money for their efforts! We will keep you up to date on our progress and you can keep up with our progress by going to to track our progress. Sr. Bernice Knapek died on September 29, Born in Penelope, TX, on May 27, 1938, the oldest daughter of John Knapek and Bertha Helona. She entered the Sisters of Saint Mary of Namur in September 1956 and pronounced her perpetual vows on August 15, She received a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Dallas in 1961, a Certificate of Religious Studies from Incarnate Word College San Antonio, TX in 1964, and a M.A. in Administration from North Texas University, Denton, TX in Sr. Bernice began her long and successful career as an educator in Sister of Saint Mary elementary schools in Texas and California, serving as teacher and principal. Amongst those was Resurrection Catholic School here in Houston. Because she loved children, she thoroughly enjoyed the role of principal and knew each child by name. She encouraged teachers to be the best for their students.
