Dallas County calls for renewed awareness and bi-partisan participation IF YOU RE NOT REGISTERED - YOU CAN T VOTE!! Dallas, TX On September 24, 2013, volunteers, celebrities, civic groups, and organizations from all across the country will "hit the streets" for Dallas County s Voter Registration Day. Dallas County invites all citizens and groups regardless of party affiliation to rally around the most important right of Americans the right to vote; IF YOU RE NOT REGISTERED, YOU CAN T VOTE. This joint effort with our community partners is designed to create interest in and understanding of the elections process among all sectors of the electorate. Events begin Tuesday, September 24 th. It will take place at several, accessible locations throughout Dallas County. MEDIA: we appreciate your election coverage. It is CRITICAL, particularly this election year, with so much confusion around voter identification regulations and redistricting, that citizens have a place to go to find answers because, with regard to elections and voting, IF YOU RE NOT REGISTERED, YOU CAN T VOTE! Deputy Voter Registrar teams and events across our county will be teaming with participants across the political spectrum; we expect high participation from the youngest to the oldest of our population. We invite you to witness this process in action. Approximately 140 area high schools (and the list is growing) throughout Dallas County will be participating on September 24 th from 10:00am to 2pm. Deputy Registrar teams will be located at each of Dallas County s Government/Tax Centers (some locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Several of the area s colleges and universities will host Deputy Voter Registrar teams on their campuses. Radio stations participating and doing special broadcastings are 97.9 the beat and k104fm. You will find a list of participating locations attached to this release as Attachment A. School teachers, administrators, and staff are encouraged to register at their participating high school location. In particular the Elections Department staff will be stationed at each County Government Center to answer any questions. The general public is asked to go to their nearest County Government Center or participating college/university campus and REGISTER TO VOTE. Deputy Voter Registrar Teams will also be available to help update voter registration information, and to provide information about Texas new voter identification legislation requirements.

2 Dallas County Voter Registration Day Page 2 Dallas County Voter Registration Day Program and Participating Organizations: Several organizations have joined the County s effort and have provided a corps of volunteers to assist in this endeavor; they include: League of Women Voters of Dallas, Dallas NAACP, Garland NAACP, the Links Inc., and Dallas County s own Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars. Radio stations participating and doing special broadcastings are 97.9 the beat and k104fm. All manner of voter services will be available, including: absentee ballot applications, information about student and military voting, information about what ID is required for the upcoming elections, and where to access the League of Women Voters Voter Guide, when it s available. IMPORTANCE Dallas County, as the ninth largest county in the United States, has the opportunity to celebrate the rights that unite us as Americans. The importance of getting out the vote during elections cannot be understated. DCED will count the number of voters registered and report the results on their website.
