Stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Matthew 25:13 In Jesus parable of the ten bridesmaids, only the bridesmaids who brought oil with them had enough to light their lamps. By being prepared, they were welcomed into the wedding feast, while the unprepared ones found the door locked on their return. We may hear Jesus parable of the bridesmaids who did not take oil for their lamps with them to the wedding, and think, I would not be so shortsighted. You never know what is going to happen. Yet, are we really prepared to meet our Lord at the moment of our death or in the second coming of Christ? Are we, people who profess faith in Jesus, ready for the bridegroom who is Christ our Lord? Or are we more like the foolish bridesmaids than we want to admit? We know neither the day nor the hour. We must be ready. We had sixteen hundred years experience with one Eucharistic Prayer in our repertoire, and the liturgical reforms of the Council of Trent shaped the way we worshiped for four hundred years. In the last years of the Tridentine Mass, the early 1960s, we tended to see children as miniature adults. Fully rooted in the assembly by the decision of Pope Saint Pius X to TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION push Communion back to the age of seven or so from the standard age of twelve to fourteen years during the early 1900s, children were still more tolerated than acknowledged. The Mass was in Latin, and by the 1960s the people had begun to regain their voices in the dialogue Mass, so the focus was on training little children to recite or sing in Latin. The new attention to the experience of children, their ability to enter into ritual, their spontaneity, their ability to grasp key concepts in faith, felt untraditional. Yet we can trace in our tradition the ways in which children have long been given a special place in the assembly. From earliest times, boys have served in choirs and certain ministries in monasteries and in parish churches. Girls were sometimes entrusted to nuns, learning liturgical chants and the arts. Yet, in our day, the formation of a Lectionary for children and Eucharistic Prayers suited to them are truly tremendous breakthroughs in our treasury of prayer. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. 4 NO SER TONTO Qué significa ser tonto? Qué significa ser inteligente? Todos nosotros podemos nombrar una ocasión o dos en la que hayamos hecho algo tonto. No nos detuvimos a considerar las consecuencias de nuestras acciones o de lamentarnos al final por esas acciones. Sin embargo, el tipo de tonterías que aquí estamos considerando, es más que un simple comportamiento impulsivo que tiene consecuencias eternas. Ser ignorante ante los ojos de Dios es ignorar sus caminos los cuales nos enseñan cómo debemos comportarnos, ante Dios, nuestros prójimos y nosotros mismos. Las cinco jóvenes vírgenes no fallaron en cumplir sus responsabilidades, sino que fallaron en lo que no hicieron. Como ellas, fallamos en estar listos para el encuentro con nuestro Señor, ya sea por lo que no hacemos o por lo que hacemos. En estas últimas semanas del año litúrgico se nos urge hacer un balance. Quiénes somos, quiénes no somos, viviendo como unas personas con una fe que dirige nuestras vidas? Somos tontos por los pecados que comentemos o por cosas que no hicimos? Cuidamos nuestros prójimos o a nosotros mismos como deberíamos? O actuamos como si tuviéramos todo el tiempo del mundo para encaminarnos y andar por la ruta de Cristo de misericordia, perdón, justicia, amor y paz? Fallamos en reconocer que el discipulado cristiano es un camino para la vida? SAN ALBERTO MAGNO ( ) 15 de noviembre El primer amor de Alberto fueron las ciencias, pues mediante ellas descubrió y defendió la grandeza de Dios. Aunque amó las ciencias, más amó la teología. A los 16 años se trasladó a la Universidad de Padua, donde conoció a los Dominicos, congregación a la cual se uniría para servir como maestro en Alemania a los 22 años y a los 23 vestir el hábito dominico, pese a la negativa de su padre. Su influencia en el pensamiento cristiano se dio gracias a que inició el diálogo de la fe con las ciencias. Entre sus discípulos tuvo al teólogo de todos los tiempos, Tomás de Aquino, quien sentaría las bases para la teología perenne. A los 48 años fue nombrado Provincial de Alemania, pero renunció para seguir enseñando y estudiando. Después, fue consagrado obispo de Ratisbona, cargo que ejerció durante dos años como un pastor caminante, sencillo y pobre.
