4 The Resurrection of the Lord Imagine the headlines that might accompany this Easter gospel: "Woman Finds Tomb Empty," "Race to Tomb Lost by Peter," "Burial Shroud Mysteriously Vacated." John's account makes it clear that Mary Magdalene was the first witness to the empty tomb. Like Peter and John, she did not at first understand that Jesus had risen from the dead. In an historical time when women were not allowed to testify in a court of law, Jesus chose a woman to be the first witness to the empty tomb and to the risen Lord himself. The very next story in John's Gospel tells us how Mary Magdalene meets the risen Jesus and he sends her to announce to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord" (John 20:18). Whenever we hear this or any other Easter gospel proclaimed, we can rejoice that we too have been chosen as witnesses that Jesus is the Son of God who has risen from the dead. Domingo de Resurrección Imagina los encabezamientos que pueden acompañar este evangelio de Pascua de resurrección: "mujeres encuentran la tumba vacía", "Pedro llega de último a la tumba", "misterio en desaparición del cuerpo". El recuento de Juan deja claro que María Magdalena fue el primer testigo de la tumba vacía. A igual que Pedro y Juan, ella no entendió al principio que Jesús había resucitado. En ese tiempo a las mujeres no se les permitía testificar en la corte. Jesús escogió a una mujer para ser el primer testigo de su resurrección. La próxima historia del evangelio de Juan nos dice que María Magdalena se encontró al Señor resucitado y que él la envía a anunciar a los discípulos; "He visto al Señor" (Juan 20:18). Cada vez que escuchamos esta u otra proclamación del evangelio de la resurrección, nos regocijamos de que también nosotros hemos sido escogidos para ser testigos de que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios que ha resucitado de entre los muertos. Invitamos a los niños entre 0 a 13 años de edad a que el día 5 de Abril vengan y participen en las misas ya que tendremos después de cada Misa nuestra búsqueda del huevo de pascua. Sera una experiencia divertida en el cual conviviremos con todos los niños de nuestra comunidad. Los huevos serán donados por los siguientes grupos de nuestra comunidad: Pequeñas Comunidades, Encuentro Matrimonial, RICA, Rayos de Paz, Misa Cristo Vive, Escuela Parroquial, Coro 12:00 P.M. Melania & Margarita O Farrill. 3 We would like to invite our community children ages 0-13 to join us to participate in our Sunday Masses on April 5th and for our First Easter Egg Hunting which will take place after mass. This will be an amazing experience in which we will be able to celebrate with our community. 6 DID YOU KNOW? Support Archdiocese s 2015 Child Abuse Prevention Month Campaign April is national Child Abuse Prevention Month and Keep Kids Safe month in the Los Angeles Archdiocese. It is most appropriate that these events take place during the Easter Season, since there is no better time to celebrate the protection of our most valuable gift from God our children. During this month, numerous activities will take place to celebrate what we have accomplished in protecting our children and young people and in remembering and praying for victims/survivors of sexual abuse. Children in Catholic schools and Religious Education programs in the Archdiocese will wear bright blue ribbon-shaped stickers that say, Keep Kids Safe.
