Page 1 Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Community July 26, 2015 I would like to take a moment and bring to your attention something Fr. Jim and I have spoken about with you in the past. It is about our Sunday collections. I know and have heard your comments about how our parish is always asking for more money and contributions and having more fundraisers. But the important fact is, is that we, as church, are in dire need of repairing this beautiful church entrusted to us. I must remind you that this is not Fr. Jim s church nor is it mine. This beautiful place of prayer and spiritual enlivening belongs to all of us, it is God s house, and it is in need of work. This building was erected back in 1960 and blessed in 1961. That makes this building over 54 years old. With that, some of the pipes and fixtures are that old and in need of either repairs or replacing. The lighting, which I find very lacking, needs to be replaced as some of the fixtures are worn out and dangerous. Some of the sacred books we use are falling apart. These are just a few things that need to be addressed, but without money, we are putting Band-aids on gaping wounds that need to be either fixed properly or replaced. Our Holy Books are being held together with tape and the covers are falling apart. God deserves better that what we are offering! As Fr. Jim and I have pointed out in the past, our finances have gotten bigger, as you well know the cost of everything has raised exponentially, while our Sunday collections have gotten smaller. People are still giving the same (Continued on page 2) Gifts of hope Reading I 2 Kings 4:42 44 44 Reading II Ephesians 4:1 6 Gospel John 6:1 15 15 Key Passage: When [the people] were satisfied, he told his disciples, Gather up thefragments left over, so that nothing may be lost. So they gathered them up, and from the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets. (John 6:12 13) Adult: When has the generous gift of another offered you hope? Child: What loving gift could you give to another person this week? Las personas siguen dando la misma (Continúa en la página 3) Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish is currently seeking four Volunteer Teachers (one per week) for our weekly Sunday Liturgy of the Word at the 10 AM Mass. This is a great way to help educate our Children in the Catholic Faith. Please contact Ava Haylock, DRE @ (323) 445 6950. Please include in your prayers COLE DRYDEN, novice. At daily Mass since 2006, we have prayed for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life and by name one of the Augustinian seminarians from the California province.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 (Continued from page 1) amount that they gave over twenty years ago. We have had to cut the Mass times, as well as let some people go, and we have had to cut back hours because we don t receive enough money to keep them on our payroll. Who knows what next measure we will have to take. We need your support, your parish needs your support, you need your support! Running and maintaining a parish is a costly endeavor, and you need to help with this. This church has seen many great events, like weddings and funerals. People remember that their children were baptized here, or received their confirmations here. Our wonderful church is full of these wonderful memories, but most importantly it is a very sacred place. It is a place of honor and respect, and it is our place to come and pray, to come and receive Jesus in the blessed Sacrament of the Mass, the greatest prayer we pray together, not only on Sundays, but every day of the week. I humbly ask and pray that you will help meet our parish s monetary needs by increasing your donation 100%. That means if you give $5.00 now, make it $10.00. The dollar you gave 10 or 20 years ago is not the same dollar today. Even though we are here in Los Feliz, we are facing hard financial times, and your parish needs your help. I don t know how to say it better or more succinctly, and I humbly beg that you increase your offerings to help with the upkeep and personnel needs our wonderful parish requires. Muchas bendiciones continuas, PADRE TOM
