The Church encourages a prolonged celebration of the Pentecost Vigil, one of urgent prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit. The 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 18, will be celebrated as a more prolonged vigil, with 2 additional readings, a few added prayers, and incense. This Mass will be bilingual, and there will be no 7:15 p.m. Mass in Spanish. Please plan to join us as we invoke the Holy Spirit upon our community, the Church, and the world! 2 Religious Education News Vacation Bible School Testament Treasures celebrating God s Holy Word is the theme of our Vacation Bible School which is June from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM for 4 year old thru 4th grade. Registration forms were given to all the Sunday School, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Liturgy of the Word and St. Monica School students. There is no fee for the program because of the kindness of the Knights of Columbus and Men s Club. Volunteer forms were given to 5th grade students and older. Please return to the Religious Education/School Office by May 24. If you would like a form and did not receive one please contact the Religious Education/School Office. Adults who wish to help on the core team please call or Mary Jo, m, opt 4. The program is written and we need adults to facilitate the sessions as crafts, games, music and science. End of the Year! The last session of our Sunday School, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Liturgy of the Word is Sunday, May 19. Please continue to attend all session until and including May 19. Confirmation The 7th graders in our parish are presently preparing for Confirmation. The students are being prepared in their religious class at St. Monica School or Sunday School Faith Formation class. Confirmation registration forms were due April 13. On May 19 your Confirmation name and sponsor forms are due to the religious education office. Confirmation information packets were sent in February. Please fill out these two forms, if you have not, and return by May 19. If we do not receive your forms we will assume you do not wish your son/daughter to be confirmed as an 8th grader in the fall. Women s Day Retreat Women years old Register today for the upcoming "A Great Cloud of Witnesses" Women's Day Retreat to be held at St. Monica on Saturday, June 15, 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM. Catholic Business Exchange Dr. Kent Millard and Judith Cebula, co-authors of the book Lead Like Butler will speak at the May Catholic Business Exchange. Their topic will be: The Butler Way: Using It in Every Day Life. Dr. Millard is the retired senior pastor of St. Luke s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Judith Cebula directs the Center for Faith and Vocation at Butler University. Judith came to Butler in 2003 after a nearly 15-year career in daily newspaper journalism. The event is Friday morning, May 17, at the North Side Knights of Columbus. Mass starts at 6:30am and the program will be finished by 8:30am. St. Monica Worship Space Study: Renovate, Repair, Re-Design, Remove, Re-Purpose--Choices Ahead for Our Parish The Church teaches us about what we believe in many ways; through Scriptures, Tradition, dogma and the Liturgy. But it also teaches us through the Silent Gospel, its sacred art and architecture. Everyone is invited to come and learn how the Church reaches out to us and opens up the treasures of our faith through the art of the art of the centuries in a series of three educational sessions presented by Br. Martin Erspamer, O.S.B, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. The sessions will discuss topics such as what we need to know before we plan and why churches look the way they do. Why have art in church? Why not? How does one church serve many purposes? Why is St. Monica the church we have? And why changing a church is difficult! Come learn how a church connects us to God and each other! 4 Ministry Leader Appreciation Event All ministry leaders are asked to please save 4:00 pm June 1 on your calendars! The PPC is planning this time just for you. We would like to thank you for your service to the parish and also to give you a chance to fellowship with other ministry leaders and parish staff. The 5:30 mass on Saturday, June 1, celebrates Corpus Christi and we will be recognizing all ministry leaders at the mass in addition to the time before mass. Las registraciones se entregarán en la doctrina, Catequesis del Buen Pastor, Liturgia de la Palabra y a los estudiantes de la Escuela de Santa Mónica. No hay costo para este programa por la generosidad de los Club de los Caballeros de Colón. Las formas para los voluntarios se les darán a los estudiantes de 5 grado en adelante. Por favor regrese las formas a las oficinas de la Escuela/ Educación Religiosa antes de 24 de Mayo. Por favor llene las dos formas, si no lo ha hecho y regréselas antes del 19 de mayo. Si no recibimos sus formas asumiremos que no desea que su hijo(a) haga su confirmación en el 8 grado en el otoño. Bishop Bruté Days Camp is an overnight retreat for young men who are seeking to grow closer to Christ, and who are open to the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood. The retreat gives young men the opportunity to spend three days with the Bishop Bruté college seminarians learning about prayer, service, scripture, and the awesome gift of our Catholic faith. Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body of parishioners who assist the Pastor in guiding the parish on issues requiring practical wisdom and investigation. The PPC has three purposes: 1) to investigate pastoral matters; 2) to give these matters in-depth consideration and prayer; and 3) to propose practical conclusions and assist in cultivating our vision. Twelve parishioners discerned their participation on PPC for a threeyear term through June 30, 2015 related to the parish theme of Immersed in Christ: One Body. One Mission. The PPC meets the second Wednesday of the month. All parishioners are welcome to attend! The next meeting is June 12 from 6:45 PM to 9:15 PM in the Holy Family Room.
