2 Page 2 From Father s Pen The Christophers is a Catholic organization which, among other things, publishes monthly news notes. Some of these in English or in Spanish are usually available in the church vestibule. The motto of the Christophers is: It s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. The most recent news note (Number 514!) is entitled, Let s Be Positive. It quotes singer, Willie Nelson, Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you ll start having positive results. Optimists and pessimists are usually categorized according to whether they see the glass as half-full or half-empty. Christian hope is not optimism. It is not wishful thinking. It is the faith-based confidence that the Lord is with us now, tomorrow and forever. With that foundation, all of life looks different. Our pending celebration of Easter, of course, is about life divine life, eternal life, the victory of Jesus Christ. In that spirit and heeding the call to Be Positive, I recall several very good things that have taken place in the parish this Lenten season: the fish fries of the Knights of Columbus, the basketball tournament, the soccer tournament, the St. Patrick s Day celebration, the ecumenical prayer services, and others. Perhaps most significantly, the attendance at weekend masses has been greater than usual ever since January. These are all things to appreciate and be thankful for and enjoy. They are also things to build upon as a parish. For I am the Lord your God You are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you. (Isaiah, Chapter 43). Éstas son todas las cosas que debemos apreciar y por las cuales estar agradecido y disfrutar. Ellas son también cosas que ayudan a construir y mantener nuestra parroquia. Padre David Perry senior Alex Peitz placed seventh in the 112-pound division at the 2009Class 3A State Wrestling Tournament, which was held Feb in Des Moines. He also competed at the state tourney as a s o p h o m o r e a n d a j u n i o r, doing so in the 103-pound division. Peitz was 27-5 as a senior and finished his career with a record, becoming only the fifth wrestler in Perry history to win 90 or more matches. He was 4-6 in 10 career matches at the state tourney. My classmates from the dioceses of Kansas City, KS, Kansas City-St. Joseph, Wichita, Jefferson City, St. Louis, and Belleville, IL and I have been practicing to be deacons at Mass, baptizing, and presiding at funerals, etc. As deacons we can "preach, marry, and bury". I've also been teaching high school, going to class and studying, and trying to pray and exercise and see friends regularly. I've enjoyed having family members come down to stay at the seminary a few different weekends. On April 2nd, I will take an oath of fidelity to the Catholic Church and pledge celibacy. This is done in a ceremony in the seminary chapel and is the precursor to the June 12th ordination Mass. I will be back in Iowa for Holy Week this year. The seminarians will be at the cathedral in Des Moines for the Triduum liturgies in April. I'm organizing a retreat for the other seminarians, and we'll be serving the liturgies during those three days. This summer, I will be assigned as a transitional deacon in Council Bluffs with Fr. Dan Kirby at three parishes: Our Lady, Queen of Apostles; Holy Family; and Our Lady of Carter Lake. I'm looking forward to getting to work in our diocese for the summer! I ask you to keep me in your prayers during this time of spiritual preparation before reception of the sacrament of Holy Orders. Thanks for your support! 4 Page 4 From the Principal We are in the final trimester of the school year and there are lots of exciting things going on! We recently held our Kindergarten Round Up and had a wonderful group of parents and students attend. We have limited openings remaining so, if anyone is considering Kindergarten at St. Patrick s, I would urge you to contact the school office as soon as possible. We have an Art and Science Fair scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the school gym. Students in grades 6-8 will show their science projects and all students will display their art work. You are invited and welcome to attend. We will hold registration night on Thursday, April 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the school gym. Parents are asked to come and fill out registration papers for next year. This helps give us an idea of the number of students we can expect in each grade. We are scheduled to have our last day of school on June 2 nd. We had five snow days to make up and were able to make up two of them in February. You ve got to love these Iowa winters! I know the students love the snow days. Last school year I told the students I would do a pushup for every book that was read over a given number of weeks. This year I kept the idea of a physical challenge. I worked with Jeanne Hill, who is the coordinator for Box Tops, Campbell s UPC labels, and Tyson Labels. She had a contest for all of the grades. It was set up with a football theme. For every 500 Box Tops, UPC labels, and Tyson Labels, the students would score a touchdown. I said that I would run 1 mile for every touchdown. The classes collected enough items to score 13 touchdowns. Jeanne told me that number of items would equal about $650 dollars for the school. I would like to challenge everyone in the school and parish community to come up with at least $650 dollars and I would run the equivalent of a marathon. I live in Waukee and commute about 26 miles. So if we can collect at least $650 dollars before May 1 st, I will pick a day later in May and run from home to school. I will need the time to get ready to run that far. That is what has been going on and what is on the schedule for the school. 5 John Mundy Tournament Ballard claimed the girls title and St. Pius X the boys crown at the John Mundy Memorial Tournament last weekend. This is the 34th year St. Patrick Catholic School has hosted a cage tournament for area middle school teams. Ballard defeated the Lady Knights from Saint Patrick s, 54-9, to win the girls championship. The Bombers had advanced with wins of over North Polk and against Ankeny. Saint Patrick s opened with a 24-6 win over Van Meter before defeating Newton,40-27, in the semifinals. Perry public sent a club team to the tourney and Michael Lansing placed sixth. The Jayettes suffered a narrow loss to Newton, then downed Van Meter, 22-17, before falling, 57-8, to North Polk in the fifth place game. Ankeny defeated Newton, 50-21, for third place, with Waukee a victor over Van Meter for seventh place. St. Pius X began play with a win over the Perry club squad, then defeated DC-G, 47-24, and Grimes, 54-33, to claim the boys title. Saint Patrick s fell to Ankeny, 57-42, in the first game of the tourney but bounced back to edge Waukee before Perry public which whipped Johnston, 46-25, scored a win over the Knights to grab fifth place. DC-G was a winner of Ankeny in the boys third place game, with no seventh-place game held due to a shortened schedule caused by a winter storm. The Don Stracke Sportsmanship Awards were claimed by the Saint Patrick s girls and St. Pius X boys teams, respectively. Each year the St. Patrick s players vote for the Patty Van Cleave Award, given to the girl and boy player who best demonstrates sportsmanship, dedication, hustle and a desire to never give up. 7 Page 7 Youth Group News The St. Pat s High School Youth Group has been on the move this winter. In January we traveled north to Minnesota on a cold, snowy weekend to embrace the ski slopes of the Afton Alps Ski Resort. Between down hill skiing, snow boarding and tubing, a good time was had by all. Before returning home, we attended mass at the historic St. Paul s Cathedral and enjoyed an afternoon at the Mall of America. In early March we made a trip to the Central Iowa Homeless Shelter in Des Moines and learned about all the services the shelter provides. Ten youths and three adults spent the afternoon entertaining the residents with bingo and homemade goodies. We gave away toiletries, socks, blankets, hats, gloves and other personal items donated by parishioners as bingo gifts. The kids really enjoyed interacting with the residents and are looking forward to going back again soon. Our next outing will be a day trip to the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, IA the last Saturday in April. We are looking forward to good weather and a faith-filled day. Once a month the youth group participates in a youth mass, enjoys a meal together and a presentation from the Fan the Flame program through the St. Thomas More Center. Recent topics presented include Saints in Church History, Defending the Faith and Symbolism in the Catholic Church. Our two Diocesan Youth Council members, Susie Wolter and Dan Vincent have been busy meeting to plan the Fall middle and high school retreats to be held at Dowling in October. To round out our busy and exciting schedule, 10 youths are currently working to promote and raise money for their trip to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Kansas City next November. Please look for their poster in the back of church and support this wonderful faith building leadership opportunity. Homeless Shelter Trip Paseo al refugio de personas sin hogar Brian LaMont Noticias del Grupo Juvenil El grupo juvenil de preparatoria de San Patricio se ha estado activo este invierno. En enero viajamos al norte de MInesota en un nevado y frio fin de semana para admirar y hacer uso de las pistas de esquiar y disfrutar de las instalaciones del Hotel Sfton Alps. Entre esquiar, resbalarse en patinetas para la nieve y otras actividades de invierno todos pasamos un muiy buen tiempo. Antes de regresar a casa, asistimos a misa en la Catedral de San Pablo y disfrutamos de una tarde en en Centro Comercial de las Américas. A principios de marzo hicimos un viaje al refugio para personas sin hogar en Des Moines y aprendimos sobre todos los servicios que el refugio proporciona. Diez jóvenes y tres adultos pasaron la tarde entreteniendo a los residentes con bingo y golosinas hechas en casa. Regalamos artículos de tocador, calcetines, mantas, gorros, guantes y otros artículos personales donados por feligreses como regalos de bingo. Los niños realmente disfrutaron relacionándose con los residentes y tienen ganas de volver pronto otra vez. Nuestra siguiente salida será una excursión de un día a la Gruta de Redención en West Bend IA en el último de abril. Esperamos con mucha ilusión un buen tiempo y un día lleno de fe. 8 Page 8 Parish Library News The Library continues to receive donations of books, DVD s and videos. To date there are well over 300 items covering a range of topics. The Library has not been open before and/or after weekend masses because of minimal to no usage. However, anyone is welcome to use the Library during normal church office hours. A notebook is provided for individuals to use to check out items. Of note, a recent donation is the The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - a good read. 9 KC News We were glad to provide the Free Throw Contest in January. Winners in age groups went on to the district contest in Madrid. The annual bike raffle in connection with BRR was again a big success, with a profit of about $900. The winners of the bike were Steve and Peg Fagen. Congratulations, Steve and Peg! Thank you to everyone who sold and bought tickets. Thanks to all the Knights, wives, Confirmation students, and others who worked to make the Lenten Fish Fries a success, and, of course, to all the parishioners who provided desserts and who came to the meals. The fellowship was enjoyed by all, and the parish and other causes will benefit from the profits. We look forward to supporting the reception for students following Confirmation and providing scholarships for graduating seniors. We are always glad to have new Knights. 11 Semi Annual Financial Statement Page 11 We have passed the half way mark of our fiscal year. It has been a difficult time for all of us, and therefore, a difficult time for our St Patrick s family. As always, we appreciate the sacrifices that everyone has made to keep our Church and school successful. Six months ago, we ended the year with a $35,800 deficit. We did receive generous gifts from Charles O Malley and the Kautzky family to help boost the financial situation of our parish. So many of you worked very hard to make the various fundraisers successful and put our parish in a good financial position. Our school staff worked so hard to qualify more students, increasing the CTO funds over last year. In spite of all this, and the generosity of all of you, we still find ourselves in need of more funds. The needs of our parish are great. Bad weather has taken a toll on the roof of our church, and it will need to be replaced. Bids are now being taken and we are looking at possible options from other sources to aid us in paying for the new roof. The quality education of our children, the future of our church, is a financial demand that we must meet. Our School Board has worked very hard to keep our expenses to a minimum and our scholastic performance to a maximum with quality teachers in the classrooms. Our principal, teachers and support staff deserve our gratitude for the great job they do; they also need our financial support. While we pay as best we can, our budget does not allow us to pay what we should. Costs of new books, keeping pace with new technology, salaries, insurance, building maintenance, utilities and repairs keep spiraling up. Tithing, the blood of our parish, has not kept pace. Tithing has decreased in these difficult times. If we intend to keep our school as it is, then a greater financial commitment will be needed. The school, with the new scrip program, is trying to lighten the burden and we need to do all we can to keep this program alive. The money we owe the Diocese has been partially repaid, but we still owe thousands. This is another commitment that we must address. Financial responsibility is the goal of the financial council but we do not control the money of the parish; we do not generate money or dictate how your money is spent. We on the finance council are doing our best to guide our parish out of debt but we need your help. St. Patrick s belongs to you. We need YOU. We need more students attending our school so that tuition, with or without CTO assistance, will make it easier to keep our school thriving. If your child is not attending St Patrick s, please take the time and look into enrolling your children. We need YOU to support events such as fish fry Fridays, donating time or talents as you can, supporting soccer and basketball tournaments, any event of the Knights or the Regina Guild, the live auction and others. ALL of these events and organizations benefit our church and school. In the past, you have answered the call with generosity and we know you will again. We all know that you cannot give what you do not have and many do not have what they need. As you sit in church, look at your fellow Catholics. All are called to do their share and are counted upon to do so. Thanks again for all that you have done. If you have anything you would like to comment on, or ideas to make us a better parish, please feel free to talk to any finance council member or to Father Dave.

E. A. Donahue, the interior redecoration of St. Patrick s church was completed this month. The nave of the church is painted cream with the lower part brown. The sanctuary walls, also done in brown, are richly ornamented with gold symbols, which signify God watching over the universe. Bronze fretwork decorates the ivory altars. A series of oil paintings above the high altar replace the stained glass windows. These paintings by C. L. Schletter include the patron saints of the five pastors of St. Patrick s; namely, Saints James, John, Francis, William, and Edwin; the patroness of the Sisters of St. Francis St. Clare; the first American saint St. Rose of Lima; St Bridget patroness of the first settlers of St. Patrick s; and St. Catherine of Siena philosopher. Directly below each painting are the initials and symbols of the saint. Other additions that add beauty to the renovation are the hand carved imported Italian statues of St. Joseph and St. Patrick. The statue of St. Joseph, patron of the universal church, is in the niche to the right of the main altar over the sacristy door and the statue of St. Patrick, patron or the parish, occupies the niche over the baptistry door. New light fixtures, gold altar drapes, and side altar candlesticks which match those on the main altar were also purchased as part of the renovation of the church. Radiator covers will be installed in the near future. T h e statues of the Sacred Heart, the Blessed Virgin and the Stations of the Cross were renewed. Schletter Studios did the redecoration work. 14 Page 14 Sister Mary Teresa Ruggle, OSF Clinton Sister Mary Teresa Ruggle, OSF, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, 2009, in Clinton at The Alverno, the retirement home owned and operated by her congregation. Sister Mary Teresa was born on March 13, 1928, in Conception, Mo., the second of the nine children of Alphonse O. and Stella Maria McCann Ruggle. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in Perry in 1947 and joined the congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Clare Convent, Clinton, in September, She held an A. A. degree from Mount St. Clare College, Clinton; a B. A. degree from Marycrest College, Davenport, Ia.; an M. A. degree in Secondary School Administration from the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.; and an M. A. degree in Library Science from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She also studied at the University of St. Louis, St. Louis, Mo.; the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind.; Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., and at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. She held an Iowa Elementary and Secondary Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate, as well as Nebraska Supervisory and Administrative certification. Sister Mary Teresa spent most of her active ministry as a teacher and librarian. She began her teaching career in the primary grades at Sacred Heart School in Clinton. She subsequently taught junior high and high school students in Varina and Victor, Ia.; in Rochelle and Chicago, Ill.; and in Lexington, Neb., where she also served as Principal. She later served as librarian at Marycrest College, Davenport, Mount St. Clare College and Mater Dei High School, Clinton, and at St. LaSalle School, Reedley, Calif. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Philip, and sisters, Cecelia and Margaret. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph (and Arva) of Perry and Leo (and Rosemary) of Northfield, Minn. and her sisters Ruth Ruggle and Helen Ruggle of Perry and Clarita Penczek of Joliet, Ill. Services for Sister Mary Teresa Ruggle were held at The Canticle, home of the Clinton Franciscans, on Thursday, Jan. 29 and Friday, Jan. 30. Burial was at St. Irenaeus Cemetery in Clinton. 15 Familiar to You Our featured family in this issue is the Eric and Stacy Vaughn family. If you attend the 9:00 a.m. Sunday mass, you have probably noticed this vibrant young family sitting near the front. It s easy to spot Eric, often arriving in full police uniform, working mass into his day on the Perry police force. Eric and Stacy were both born and raised in Muscatine, Iowa. Eric is the youngest of 3 children, and Stacy is the youngest of 6. Following high school, Eric graduated from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo with an AA degree in Criminal Justice in Stacy went a slightly different direction, graduating from the University of Iowa, securing a B.S. in Biology in 1994, and going straight on to capture her Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Science Education in During college, they met when a high school friend of Stacy s introduced them while they were back in Muscatine over an Easter break. Over the next month they learned more about each other over the phone while Eric wrapped up his graduation. They began officially dating that summer. Oddly enough, Stacy and Eric had briefly met the year before when they were in the wedding party for mutual friends. Not only had they met, but Stacy had caught the wedding bouquet, and Eric (reluctantly) caught the garter. The plot thickened as the photographer requested that Eric place the garter on Stacy s leg for a photograph, while being cheered on by the bride and groom! Who would have guessed it would lead to a lifetime commitment! But their reunion a year later was indeed followed by a commitment, evidenced by four years of dating, most of which meant being separated by miles and re-uniting on weekends. During that time Stacy finished college and Eric began his career, eventually landing his first police officer position. Stacy had told Eric she wanted to finish her education before getting married which she did. On July 26 th, 1996, she graduated with her master s degree, and on July 27 th 1996, they were married! The much anticipated ceremony was held at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine. Eric started his career as a patrolman for Denison Police Department in 1994, and joined the Perry Police Department in January Eric has served the Perry Police Department as patrolman, K-9 officer, Detective Sergeant and in 2004, was promoted to Assistant Police Chief. Eric s hopes for the future include the chance to become a Police Chief somewhere. Stacy started her teaching career at Johnston High School in the fall of Stacy took a position at Perry High School in the fall of 2003, where she taught high school Biology, Biotechnology and AP Biology. In the fall of 2007, she was hired by Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to teach Biology. Stacy says she will always be in the teaching field and enjoys the community college setting because of the diversity. The Vaughn s journey at St. Pat s took an interesting direction in 2005 when Eric began the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). At the Easter Vigil Mass in April, 2006 Eric was confirmed at St. Pat s. Together, Eric and Stacy have served the church by sponsoring engaged couples as they prepare to marry at St. Pat s. In addition, Eric p a r t i c i - pates in t h e Knights of Columbus Page 15 Haley, Eric, Sarah and Stacy Vaughn and Stacy helps out in the biannual rummage sales and enjoys cooking and baking for various events. In the wider community, Eric enjoys coaching girls soccer for the Perry Soccer Club and serves on the Woodward Academy Board. Eric and Stacy have two young daughters: Haley Kate and Sarah Grace. Haley is 9 years old and a 4 th grader at Perry Elementary. She stays active by participating in dance, swimming, soccer and being willing to help out on the altar during Mass. She has a goal of someday becoming an artist. Sarah Grace is 7 years old, and a 1 st grader at Perry Elementary. Sarah participates in dance, loves to sing and according to Mom, anything else that gets her the center stage! Sarah maintains that her future plans include living at home because she never wants to leave her family! The Vaughns are an active family, and enjoy a variety of recreation. Their free time is spent with the girls - going to movies, golfing, swimming, sledding, traveling or just playing in the back yard. Eric and Stacy find a way to get off to a couple of Iowa football games each fall, where they cheer them on with some college friends. Stacy adds Go Hawks! A highlight of the summer is when the girls get to spend a week with their grandparents in Muscatine, and Mom and Dad get away on their own vacation. Some of their favorite trips have been to Vieques Island in Puerto Rico, and a Hawaiian cruise. To gain a deeper understanding of the Vaughn family, the question was asked Who made the biggest impact on your faith life? Their answers are insightful. Stacy s answer is, Initially - my parents. They made it a priority to go to mass, and our social lives growing up were centered on our church-bazaars, dinners and religious education classes. Eric grew up in the Methodist Church where he and his family regularly attended. As often happens, for several years he chose not to attend church. Eric relates that after he and Stacy moved to Perry, he began to attend church with her occasionally after the girls were born. Through that experience he began to see how important church was to Stacy, knew these were the values his new family needed, and wanted to be a part of it. Eric also realized that it could greatly help to cope with the stresses and hardships he witnessed at work. Turn to page 17

16 Page 17 Familiar a Usted Nuestra familia presentada en esta ocasión es la familia de Eric y Stacy Vaughn. Si usted asiste a la misa de las 9:00 el domingo, usted ha visto probablemente a esta familia joven vibrante que se sienta cerca del frente. Es fácil identificar a Eric, que a menudo llega con su uniforme de policía, convirtiendo a la misa en parte de su trabajo como policía de Perry. Eric y Stacy nacieron y crecieron en Muscatine, Iowa. Eric es el más joven de 3 niños, y Stacy es la más joven de 6. Durante el próximo mes ellos se conocieron mas a fondo intercambiando llamadas por teléfono mientras Eric realizo su graduación. Ellos comenzaron oficialmente una relación ese verano. Por extraño que parezca, Stacy y Eric habían encontrado brevemente el año anterior cuando ellos estaban asistiendo a la de boda de unos amigos que ellos tenían en común. No sólo ellos se habían conocido, pero Stacy había agarrado el ramo de boda, y Eric (de mala gana) agarró la liga. El complot comenzó cuando el fotógrafo solicitó que Eric colocara la liga en la pierna de Stacy para una fotografía, siendo alentado por los novios! Quién habría adivinado que esto conduciría a un compromiso de toda la vida! Pero su reencuentro un año más tarde en efecto fue seguido de un compromiso, evidenciado por cuatro años de noviazgo, la mayor parte del cual estaban separados por millas y se reunían los fines de semana. Durante aquel tiempo Stacy terminó el colegio y Eric comenzó su carrera, finalmente consiguiendo su primera posición de policía. Stacy había dicho a Eric que ella quería terminar su educación antes de casarse lo que ella hizo. El 26 de julio de 1996, ella se graduó con el grado de maestro, y el 27 de julio de 1996, ellos se casaron! La ceremonia muy esperada fue llevada acabo en la Iglesia Católica de San Matías en Muscatine. Eric comenzó su carrera como un patrullero para el Departamento de Policía en Denison en 1994, y se afilió al Departamento de Policía de Perry en enero de Eric ha servido el Departamento de Policía de Perry como agente oficial de policía, k-9, Sargento Policíaco y en 2004, fue promovido a asistente de Jefe de Policía. Las esperanzas de Eric para el futuro incluyen la posibilidad de convertirse en un Jefe de Policía en algún sitio. La jornada de los Vaughn en San Patricio tomó una dirección interesante en 2005 cuando Eric comenzó el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para (RICA). En la misa de Vigilia de Pascua en abril del 2006 Eric fue confirmado en San Patricio. Juntos, Eric y Stacy han servido la iglesia patrocinando a parejas comprometidas cuando ellos se disponen a prepararse para casarse en San Patricio. Además, Eric participa en los Caballeros de Colon y Stacy ayuda en las ventas de artículos con fines benéficos realizadas cada seis meses y disfruta cocinando y horneando para varios acontecimientos. A nivel comunitario, Eric disfruta entrenando el equipo de fútbol de las niñas para el Club de Soccer de Perry y sirve en la mesa directiva de la Academia de Woodward. Eric y Stacy tienen dos hijas jóvenes: Haley Kate y Sarah Grace. Haley tiene 9 años y esta en el cuarto grado en la escuela primaria de Perry. Ella se encuentra activa participando en baile, natación, fútbol y ayuda durante la misa como servidora en el altar. Ella tiene como objetivo de un día hacerse una artista. Sarah Grace tiene 7 años, y cursa el 1er grado en la escuela primaria de Perry. Sarah participa en el baile, le encanta cantar y según su Mamá, nada mas le encanta que ser el centro del escenario! Sarah mantiene que sus futuros planes incluyen la vida en casa porque ella nunca quiere abandonar su familia! Los Vaughns son una familia activa, y disfrutan de una variedad de recreaciones. Su tiempo libre lo pasan con sus hijas - yendo a ver películas, jugar al golf, natación, trineo, viajes o sólo jugar en el traspatio. Eric y Stacy encuentran un modo de salir y asistir a un par de juegos de fútbol de Iowa cada otoño, donde ellos alientan a su equipo en compañía de algunos amigos del colegio. Stacy añade Arriba los Halcones! Una actividad del verano es cuando las muchachas consiguen pasar una semana con sus abuelos en Muscatine, y Mamá y Papá se escapan para sus propias vacaciones. Algunos de sus viajes favoritos han sido a la Isla Vieques en Puerto Rico, y un crucero Hawaiano. Para tener un entendimiento más profundo de la Familia Vaughn, la pregunta fue hecha Quién hizo el impacto más grande en su vida de fe? Sus respuestas son profundas. La respuesta de Stacy es, Al principio - mis padres. 17 Familiar to You Now, the Vaughn s believe that their children are the ones making the biggest impact on their faith life: Bringing our two small children to church enabled us to meet others in the pews that were willing to help keep them quiet during mass. Now that our girls are getting older, the questions they ask keep us motivated to be good role models, and continually teach us about the Catholic faith. In closing, Eric and Stacy want to add the following: We are so grateful to our St. Pat s family. With our closest family being 3 hours away from Perry, we have taken advantage of the opportunities to eat together and celebrate holidays with our extended family! Familiar a Usted Page 17 Eric creció en la Iglesia de Metodista donde él y su familia con regularidad asistían. Como a menudo pasa, durante varios años él decidió no asistir a la iglesia. Eric relata que después de que él y Stacy se cambiaron a Perry, él comenzó a asistir a la iglesia con ella de vez en cuando después de que las niñas nacieron. Por esa experiencia él comenzó a ver como la iglesia era importante para Stacy, sabía que éstos eran los valores necesarios de su nueva familia, y quiso ser una parte de ello. Eric también se dio cuenta que esto podría ayudar enormemente a enfrentarse con las tensiones y cosas difíciles que él atestiguó en el trabajo. Ahora, los Vaughn creen que sus niñas son quienes están haciendo el impacto más grande en su vida de fe: trayendo a nuestras dos pequeñas niñas a la iglesia nos permitió encontrar a otros en los bancos que quisieron ayudar a para que ellas permanecieran tranquilas durante la misa. Ahora que nuestras niñas están creciendo, las preguntas que ellas hacen nos mantienen motivados para ser unos buenos modelos y continuamente nos enseña acera de nuestra fe Católica.
