CATHOLIC RITA CATHOLIC CHURCH, DADE DADE CITY, FLORIDA NOVEMBER 22, 2015 Faith Formation Celebrating Advent as a Family Formación de la fe Celebrando el Adviento como Familia For families longing to build Catholic traditions, few times of the year hold greater promise than the liturgical season of Advent. The sites and sounds of the holidays fill the air around us as we communally anticipate the glory and majesty of Christmas. Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent, Catholic families have the opportunity to share the treasures of our faith with our children in prayer, symbolism and song. Advent is not "pre-christmas." It s a separate, distinct, important liturgical season that deserves the same attention and reverence as Lent. Like Lent, it s a penitential season where we have yet another opportunity to recall, reflect, recollect, and reconcile. During Advent, we do this within the context of watchful waiting for the birth of Jesus. We also have an opportunity to contemplate the vast meaning of Mary s "yes." I think this is particularly important given our general cultural resistance to obedience, along with our need, as women, to balance saying "yes" with saying "no." Advent is a season of discernment. Definitely start simple, perhaps adding a new tradition or ritual every year. The easiest one to start with is the Advent wreath, especially because it s a homebased tradition that everyone can see practiced in church as well. I encourage people to observe Advent as a way to heighten their appreciation for Christmas. Watchful waiting gives way to delighted awe at the birth of Jesus. I think it s also a great way to instill (in children and adults) an appreciation for the value of cultivating patience. We move way too fast in this society. We're too often ahead of ourselves. Even Catholics need to learn how to "be here now" and Advent is a HOSPITALIZADOS: Por favor informe en la Oficina si tiene algún familiar o amigo enfermo y desea que sea visitado. Adviento no es "antes de Navidad". Es una clara importancia temporada separada,, litúrgica que merece la misma atención y reverencia como la Cuaresma. Al igual que la Cuaresma es un tiempo penitencial, donde todavía tenemos otra oportunidad para recordar, reflexionar, recordar, y reconciliar. Durante el Adviento, hacemos esto en el contexto de la espera vigilante para el nacimiento de Jesús. También tenemos la oportunidad de contemplar el gran significado de María de "sí". Creo que esto es particularmente importante dada nuestra resistencia cultural general a la obediencia, junto con nuestra necesidad, como mujeres, para equilibrar decir "sí" a decir "no". 3 Page 3 NOVEMBER 22, 2015 Del Escritorio Del Párroco HAIL, CHRIST THE KING! If ever you felt the need to shout out Halleluia Jesus! This Sunday (Christ the King Sunday) is your opportunity. King Jesus is alive and well and he wants us to follow Him in a TRI- UMPHAL walk of Joy to His Heavenly Kingdom. Are you ready to sign on and follow King Jesus? I hope so because He awaits your generous response. As we end this Church Liturgical Year and begin a New Year of Grace on Thanksgiving weekend (Also;The First Sunday of Advent) November 28/29 it is a time to make promises for the new year of grace ahead. Use this Thanksgiving Holiday week to review how this past year was for you spiritually, personally, liturgically and socially. What does the next year look like for you to grow more closer to Christ and to journey more personally with your parish members here at St. Rita s. Individually we can all prepare for a closer walk with Jesus and communally we can all look for ways to invest ourselves for the greater good. As we give thanks for the year past so too we look forward to a new and exciting year together in Christ Jesus. Happy Thanksgiving one and all. Long live Christ the King! * * * * * * * * As I was preparing the reflection above this past week we received word of the shootings and bombings in Paris, France. Shocking news no doubt! Let us all stand in Solidarity with our brothers and sisters in France as they unravel the mayhem and confusion that has visited them. It is important, firstly that we pray and remain vigilant even in our own situation, The Community of Holy Cross priest and brothers and sisters which Fr. Dan and I are members of have their roots in Le Mans France. At present we have a Shrine at our Mother Church in Notre Dame de Sainte Croix in Le Mans, Also, we have a formation program and parish and schools in Paris and Le Mans, France. We did receive word that one of the teachers from St. Michaels (Michele) in Picpus section of Paris was killed at the band concert Friday night in Paris with many others and a students mother was killed at a restaurant. Let us all pray fervently for all those who lost their lives their family members and fellow countrymen (European and USA) who grieve their loss. Allow me to add a line to our prayer too for an end to violence such as the Paris massacre and other hot spots throughout the world. St. Michael the Archangel, deliver us from all evil and defend us in our encounters with the same!. Amen. Fr. This ornament has the original church (currently the garden's club building) and our current church. It is quite nice. The ornaments can be purchased from the Dade City Chamber office on Church Street or from a garden club member. The cost is $22. Don t be alone on Thanksgiving The Benedictine Sisters of Florida and St.. Anthony of Padua Parish are hosting their 20th Annual Community Thanksgiving Celebration on Thursday Nov. 26th.
