Isaiah 55:7b MSGR BREEN S FUNERAL We wish to thank ALL THOSE who were involved in any way with the two beautiful Masses that were celebrated last Friday and Saturday for the late Msgr. Breen, who served Our Lady of Fatima for over 27 years. We wish to acknowledge in a special way the Conway Funeral Home, the Lectors Servers and Ushers, our Music Ministers and Choir, the Parish Staff, and all who helped in any way during this difficult time. We are especially grateful to Bishops DiMarzio, Chappetto and Sanchez, to the homilists and to the many priests who concelebrated. It was surely a well-deserved tribute to a fine man and a dedicated priest. FUNERAL DE MONS BREEN Queremos agradecer a todos los que estuvieron involucrados de alguna manera con las dos hermosas misas que se celebraron el pasado viernes y el sábado para Monseñor, Breen quien prestó sus servicios sacerdotales a Nuestra Señora de Fátima por más de 27 años. COLLECTIONS September 14, $6, September 15, $5, Poor Box - $206 Second Collection - $ (Catholic Education) ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL CONGRATULATIONS WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL IN PLEDGES, BUT WE WANT TO GO WAY, WAY OVER THE GOAL! Our sincere thanks for your generosity during the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal. Your gifts and pledges will have a lasting impact on or ability to serve the People of God here in Brooklyn and Queens. As of August 26th our parish had 178 pledges for a total of $59,973 which represents 111.3% of our parish goal ($53,901). Of this amount, $55,188 has already been paid. This means that about 18% of our registered parish families have already pledged almost 100% of our parish goal! Your generosity is crucial to providing vital pastoral, charitable and educational ministries throughout the Diocese and all gifts, great or small, help us to do God s work. We thank ALL who have pledged so far and urge every family to make an effort to support the Appeal. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL MONIES RECEIVED OVER THE GOAL WILL BE RETURNED TO THE PARISH AND WILL ASSIST US IN MEETING OUR MANY EXPENSES. PURGATORY SOCIETY For August 2014 the following names have been enrolled as members of the Purgatory Society: George Busuttil A Special Mass will be celebrated each month on the 3rd Saturday at 8:30 AM for the Members of the Purgatory Society for one year. PRO-LIFE CORNER We are all complicit, every one of us in the sin of abortion. Yesterday, 3,800 babies died, today 3,800 babies will die and tomorrow 3,800 babies will die. What did you do about these babies? We need to wake up every day and ask, what more can I do? Not what can I do, but what more can I do? Fr. 4 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners, There are two important matters that I wish to bring to your attention. The first has to do with my personal health. Shortly after Easter I began to experience increased difficulties with mobility. The discomfort I had was familiar to me from past problems with osteoarthritis of the hip. In the year 2000 I had a total right hip replacement. Unfortunately these replacements do not last for more than years. During my vacation in August I met with an orthopedic surgeon from Stony Brook Hospital. He took x-rays and informed that I needed to have hip revision surgery, but it could not be scheduled until I had dealt with a recurrence of Lymphedema (swelling in the legs). He also advised me to be careful, to avoid stairs and to use a walker at all times. I began Therapy last Tuesday and will see the surgeon again in October, at which time a date for surgery will be determined. I ask your prayers for a complete and successful recovery and your understanding of my current incapacity. Because of this situation, Bishop DiMarzio has appointed MSGR. FERNANDO FERRARESE, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Astoria, to serve as TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATOR of Our Lady of Fatima, while continuing his duties at Immaculate Conception. The day to day running of the parish will be in the competent hands of the Pastoral Staff and Rectory Staff under the capable leadership of Father Michael Udoh. I ask that all our parishioners to make every effort to be cooperative and supportive during this time. May the Lord Jesus and His Blessed Mother continue to bless our wonderful parish! Queridos Feligreses: Msgr. Mahoney Hay dos asuntos importantes que deseo comunicarles. La primera tiene que ver con mi salud. Después de Pascua empecé a sentir muchas dificultades de movilidad. El malestar que sentia era familiar a los problemas pasados que he tenido con osteoartritis de la cadera. En el año 2000 tuve un reemplazo total de la cadera derecha. Desafortunadamente estos reemplazos no duran más de años. Durante mis vacaciones en agosto me reuní con un cirujano ortopédico del Hospital Stony Brook. 5 SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL GIVES BACK Our Lady of Fatima should share in the profits. For each car, truck or van, running or not. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will give back to our church $50/100 per vehicle. Maybe you don t have a vehicle, but a family member, friend or neighbor has an old or neglected vehicle in their driveway that they would like to dispose of. SPECIAL COLLECTION Bishop DiMarzio has asked all parishes to take a Special Collection to provide humanitarian relief and pastoral support for our brothers and sisters in the Middle East. We will have a Second Collection on the weekend of October 4-5 for this purpose. Las clases empezarán en el Octubre. SUNDAY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We are still accepting Registration for our Sunday Religious Education Program. Come and register at the Religious Education Office. Everyone should be registered before Sept. 21st. ALL children who attend Public Schools are urged to attend from Grades 1 through 8. High School students who desire to receive the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation are welcome to sign up as well. They will be instructed according to their age group at whatever time is best. EDUCACION RELIGIOSA DOMINICAL Estamos aceptando inscripciones para nuestro programa de Educación Religiosa Dominical. 6 BLOOD DRIVE On Sunday, October 12th, 2014 from 8:15 am to 2:15 pm the New York Blood Center will be at the Fatima Room (25th Avenue entrance) to accept your blood donation. Blood is needed for victims of accidents, cancer patients, victims of Leukemia, etc Let us not forget an unpredictable disaster. The list of needs is endless. La Lista es interminable. ESL (ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE) Our ESL Classes for Adults starts on Friday, October 3rd at 6:30 PM and on Saturday, October 4 at 9:00 AM. We are also looking for retired teachers who might consider helping in this program.
