In these last few weeks before Winter Break, There will be many tests and final projects that will count towards students final Semester 1 grades, and so we want to encourage our KIPPsters to finish the semester strong! Also, please see the reverse side of our weekly bulletin for an important update regarding facilities for and beyond. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Jan 5 Healthy Schools and Regions (HSR) Survey Every year all KIPP schools across the country administer a survey to families, students, and staff to get feedback on how the school is doing. Surveys this year will be administered online, and a link has been sent out to families, If you are unable to complete the survey at home, please stop by our main office. Thank you in advance! Saturday School December 5 th from 9-11AM Please don t forget: we have Saturday School tomorrow for those who have been invited. We look forward to seeing you there, in KIPP Heritage uniform, at 9AM. Save The Date: School Play and Talent Showcase December 9 th from 5:30-7:00PM We will be putting on a double-feature performance (two school plays on one amazing evening) on Wednesday, December 9th from 5:30pm-7:00pm in the Stonegate Cafeteria. The free shows will also include special performances by the Improv Club, and we will be selling snacks, juice, and raffle tickets for some great prizes to fundraise for our end-of-year field lessons. If you would like to donate any materials for us to sell, we are accepting the following in our office: - Cases of 16.9 oz. water bottles - Fun-size bags of chips or popcorn - Capri Sun juices Field Lesson December 18 th This week, students received permission slips for the field lessons on December 18 th. Fifth graders will be going to the Tech Museum and San Pedro Square Market for lunch and sixth graders will be visiting the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Please be sure to complete and return the permission slip ASAP, and thank you for encouraging your child to continue to meet our high expectations for academics and behavior Please detach and return on Monday, 12/ I have read the Weekly Bulletin for 12/4/15. 2 December 4, 2015 Dear KIPP Heritage Families, Our co-location with Stonegate Elementary School has created a wonderful home for our new school during the last two years. As many of you know, however, this site does not have sufficient space to accommodate all of our students as our school grows to include grades 5-8 over the next two years. I am excited to share that we may have an opportunity to secure a long-term home for all of our students beginning in the school year. Over the last several months we have been working with the Franklin McKinley School District to secure a long term ground lease, which would allow us to build a new school that could accommodate all of our students for many years to come. If approved, the new KIPP Heritage site would be located on the back lot at the Los Arboles school site, in the Seven Trees community. This lease will be voted on by the District s school board on Tuesday, December 8 during their closed session (not the public portion of their meeting). As a part of this process, we are hoping that a handful of families can join us during the public meeting at 7:00 pm (645 Wool Creek Drive), in order to express support for this proposal and thank board members for working with us on a long-term home for KIPP Heritage. Please let me know if you would be interested in attending or speaking by calling or stopping by our main office. Because this long-term ground lease would not be available until the school year, we are also exploring additional options for the upcoming school year to accommodate our 5-7 th graders. For the school year, we are working with the Franklin-McKinley School District through a process required by the state to determine a location for our school based on where there is available space. Based on the timeline set by the state, we will receive formal notification of our initial site placement from the district in February, and we will work with the district to secure a final placement by April. Due to the district s space limitations, we will need to consider all options for next year, including the possibility of a split campus, where some grades stay on the Stonegate campus and others are housed in a different facility. We will keep you as closely informed as possible as we learn more. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to secure a long term home for our school. 4 1º de Diciembre del 2015 Estimadas Familias de KIPP Heritage, Nuestra ubicación con Stonegate Elementary School ha creado un hogar maravilloso para nuestra nueva escuela durante los últimos dos años. Como muchos de ustedes saben, sin embargo, este sitio no tiene suficiente espacio para acomodar a todos los estudiantes ya que nuestra escuela crecerá para incluir grados 5-8 en los próximos dos años.
