2 A Message from our Pastor In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2 nd. This Feast was formerly known as Candlemas Day; it is the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God s gift of their vocation. PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED PERSONS GOD OUR FATHER, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son s Kingdom as sisters, brothers, religious priests, consecrated virgins, and hermits, as well as members of Secular Institutes. Renew their knowledge and love of you, and send your Holy Spirit to help them respond generously and courageously to your will. Everyone over 14 years of age is bound to observe the law of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on all Fridays within the season of Lent and on Ash Wednesday. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, everyone over 18 and up to the beginning of their 60 th year is also bound to observe the law of fast. On these two days, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one s needs; but together they should not equal another full meal. Like other penitential days, Ash Wednesday begins and ends at midnight. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, therefore, are the only days of both fast and abstinence.

Supper will be served between 5:00-7:00pm and will consist of soup, bread, rolls, crackers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, coffee, tea and lemonade. Donations will be accepted and will go to an approved charitable organization. Lenten Fish Fry's The Knights of Columbus will be holding three Fish Fry's during Lent: February 27 th, March 13 th and March 27 th. Doors will open at 6:00pm and cost is $5.00/person (drinks not included). All are welcome. Saint John Paul II designated Wednesday, February 11 th as World Day of the Sick, a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one s suffering for the good of the Church, and of reminding us to see in our sick brother and sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying, and rising, achieved the salvation of humankind (Letter Instituting the World Day of the Sick, 13 May 1992, #3). Question of the Week: With Lent less than two weeks away, how will my renewed commitment to baptized discipleship express itself in service to others? Lenten Challenge When giving alms, do not let your left hand see what your right hand is doing. ~ Mt 6:3 Each week, before you go to Mass, take a one, a five, and a ten dollar bill, fold each separately and put all three in your pocket. As you are entering church, without looking, place one of the folded bills in the Poor Box. If each parishioner at All Saints does this during Lent, the St. Vincent de Paul Society will ease the burden and anxiety of a multitude of Manassas residents facing financial emergency. Providing such basic necessities as food, shelter, heat, medication, is an ongoing challenge for the over 250/per month callers seeking assistance. 5 All Saints Catholic School Tuition Assistance Applications for Applications for Tuition Assistance for the academic year are now available. Again this year the Diocese of Arlington has partnered with FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Company. FACTS has established an online application process that can be initiated through the company website ( The due date for applications and supporting documentation is March 16, 2015 for elementary school students.
