Philippians 4:13 Centennial Celebration The Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Foundation of Holy Angels Parish was a resounding success. Our community spirit shone by the attendance at our special Masses, the dinner dance, the turn out at our parish festival, and the number of raffle tickets sold. We thank all parish organizations, ministries, parish groups, school community, and everyone who donated their time, talent and treasure to make the events a success. We also thank those who bought and sold raffle tickets and those who supported the celebration activities. It is very uplifting to see our parish continue as a caring and welcoming community through participation at Masses and fun-filled events that also play an important part in supporting our parish. Special thanks to all who donated prize money and consolation prizes. Without your generous support, the success of our raffle would not have been possible. Page 2 Forgive Yourself - God Does It can be easier to forgive others than it is to forgive ourselves when we sin. Unless we do, however, we get stuck in the past. Moving on means believing in God s forgiveness. Here s how: Trust God. The greatest sin on earth is not bigger than God s mercy. The more mercy required the greater is God s glory. Forgiving ourselves means believing that God s promise of forgiveness is true. Your faith has saved you; go in peace (Luke 7:48). If God forgives us, we should forgive ourselves. Confess. No matter what you have done, a priest is ready to extend God s forgiveness to you in the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Penance/Confession. Don t worry that you may shock the priest with your confession. After a few years of hearing Confessions, your priest has heard it all. Confess your sins, do your penance, and then open yourself up to God s grace. Accept. Nothing can change the past, so we have to learn to accept what we did and move on. Acceptance purifies the soul, and brings relief to the wounded spirit. In the words of our beloved new saint, Pope St. John Paul II, The forgiven penitent is reconciled with himself in his inmost being, where he regains his own true identity he is reconciled with the Church, with himself, and with all creation. Vocal at (415) th Sunday October 12, 2014 COME TO THE FEAST On this mountain, the Lord of hosts / will provide for all peoples / a feast of rich food and choice wines (Isaiah 25:6). That s what Isaiah tells us today. God is putting together a huge party for all peoples, to wipe away / the tears from every face (Isaiah 25:8). And what does Jesus tell us? The reign of God, he says, may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son (Matthew 22:2). When the guests didn t come, the king had his servants go out into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find (Matthew 22:9). We are called to deliver that invitation. One of the themes woven into today s liturgy is that of divine generosity. Asleep to reality, people often think they have earned what they have. In our better moments, though, we know that all our gifts even the spiritual gifts come through God s generosity. Our vocation is to invite people, to remind them the tickets aren t for sale. Thomas Carlyle TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE La Virgen María tiene siglos de estar apareciéndose a los cristianos. Aún antes de que fuese asunta al cielo, ella ya se le había aparecido al apóstol Santiago en Zaragoza, España. Según una antigua leyenda, Santiago llegó a tierra española en el año 40 para predicar el Evangelio. Tuvo poco éxito y desanimado pensaba sacudirse de los pies el polvo de aquella tierra y buscar convertir otras gentes. Mientras estaba en oración, María, la madre de Jesús, se le apareció con palabras de consuelo, ánimo y un pequeño obsequio. Le dio una imagen de ella misma sobre un pilar y con el Niño Jesús en brazos. En esa tierra ella pidió la construcción de un templo donde ella misma sería altar para la gloria de Dios. Santiago mismo construyó la primera iglesia donde hoy se encuentra una gran basílica en honor de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. En el siglo XVIII, el Papa Clemente XII declaró el 12 de octubre como su fiesta en memoria de la llegada de los europeos al continente americano. De María vienen los principios del Día de la Raza.
