2 P A G E 2 N O V E M B E R 2 2, KING OF YOUR HEART T he image of a king may not connect much with our lives, apart from a few brief encounters with England s royal marriages. The royalty are noted more for public ceremony than for effecting any transformative change in our world. To honor Christ as king may not exactly stir the blood and move us to a religious experience, but spend some time with today s readings and you may find yourself drawn deeply into the joyful proclamation of what the dying and rising of Christ mean, for believers in the future. The visionary imagery of Daniel and Revelation takes us beyond the present to a time when Jesus, the Son of Man, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth, comes to receive glory and power and honor. When we hear the Gospel, Jesus encounter with Pilate takes us into the heart of what it means to be king: to testify to the truth. This is the truth of God: God does not wish to overpower us but to win our hearts. Will you allow God to win and enter yours? REY DE TU CORAZÓN L a imagen de un rey a lo mejor no tiene tanta conexión con nuestras vidas, aparte de unos breves encuentros con la realeza de Inglaterra. En las noticias la realeza se nota más por sus actos públicos que por cualquier cambio transformador en nuestro mundo. Honrar a Cristo como rey no necesariamente nos hace pensar en una experiencia religiosa, pero pasa algún tiempo con las lecturas de hoy y puede que te encuentres atraído profundamente por el anuncio gozoso de lo que la muerte y resurrección de Cristo significa, para los creyentes. Las imágenes de Daniel y el Apocalipsis nos llevan más allá del presente a un momento en que Jesús, el Hijo del Hombre, el primogénito entre los muertos, y príncipe de los reyes de la tierra, viene a recibir la gloria y el poder y el honor. Cuando escuchamos en el Evangelio, el encuentro de Jesús con Pilatos nos lleva al corazón de lo que significa ser rey: dar testimonio de la verdad. Esta es la verdad de Dios: Dios no quiere dominarnos sino ganar nuestro corazón. Permitirás que Dios gane y entre en el tú corazón? FOOD PANTRY The Food Pantry would like to extend their appreciation to all the parishioners who donated bags and/or their time, making the Thanksgiving Bag Food Drive a success. The outpouring of donations was overwhelming. We were able to provide Thanksgiving bags to approximately 500 families in our community. PASTORAL COUNCIL: OPEN POSITIONS The Pastoral Council has 6 open positions for the January, 2016 term. Are you open-minded, do you work with a spirit of collaboration, and are you committed to helping St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church fulfill its mission in the Apopka community and global Catholic Church? If so, please prayerfully consider a 3-year term on the Pastoral Council. We ask that all interested parishioners put their name and phone number on a piece of paper and give it to Fr. Charlie. In the season of Advent, the Church prepares for the celebration of our Lord s Nativity. In this service, we listen to Scripture lessons which recount the Fall, promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Each lesson is followed by a choral piece that reflects on the lesson s message and a brief prayer. The door will be opened for the Jubilee of Mercy on December 13 th at 9:30am, to coincide with Pope Francis opening of the Holy Door at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. All are welcome to attend. The basilica is located at 8300 Vineland Ave. in Orlando.
