The tone of today s readings casts us in the role of students learning solemn lessons. The reading from Isaiah sets the stage, calling us up a mountain to receive the Lord s instruction. In this passage we study peace. Then Paul steps forth with sober admonitions. We have to wake up; the day is almost here. Live honorably in the light. Paul reminds us that we really do know the time in which we are living. Finally, Matthew presents Jesus the storyteller. Just imagine, Jesus tells us, what it was like in Noah s time. He paints a vivid picture of ordinary people living ordinary lives and ignoring the warnings that Noah heeded. Totally unconcerned, they were destroyed. How will it be any different for us? No one knows when the Lord will come. But we have been warned. Perhaps we find such sobering scriptures unappealing and threatening. But within them there is promise. Advent is a joyful time of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. TEEN GOSPEL REFLECTION God created everything, but, rather than acknowledge god s goodness, humanity turned from god. men and women of the past and even of today's society are corrupted by ideas of greed, lust, sex, money and power. The gospel tells to us to forget about these physical things and focus on what truly is God s gift to us life. Noah's ark only saved so many living organisms. Instead of saving everything, God cleansed the land with the great flood for the sake of the people and earth. I see this occurrence is symbolic of cleansing ourselves of sin, hatred, and disparities within our minds. it calls me to ignore the "desires of the flesh" and dive deeper into my faith by focusing on the gospel in order to brighten the pathway to christ. According to Official Catholic teaching, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is no more present when exposed and no less present when reposed. There is No need for coverage. HISPANIC MINISTRIES / MINISTERIOS HISPANOS CÓMO PREPARARSE Hemos completado el círculo y hoy empezamos un nuevo año litúrgico. El tono de las lecturas de hoy nos pone en la posición del estudiante que aprende unas importantes lecciones. La lectura de Isaías prepara la escena, invitándonos a subir a la montaña para escuchar las instrucciones del Señor. En este pasaje estudiamos la paz. Luego Pablo nos presenta advertencias sombrías. Debemos estar alertas porque el día está a la puerta. Vivan honradamente en la luz. Pablo nos recuerda que sabemos en que tiempo vivimos. Finalmente, Mateo nos presenta a Jesús, el relator. Imagínense, nos dice Jesús, lo que era vivir en tiempos de Noé. Presenta una imagen muy realista de gente común viviendo vidas ordinarias e ignorando las advertencias que Noé escuchó. Totalmente despreocupados, fueron destruidos. Podrá ser diferente para nosotros? Nadie sabe cuando vendrá el Señor. Pero nos advirtió.
