2 Residential Section - Staying with a Host Family Estancia con Familia Británica Staying with a British Family to Help Learn English It is not necessary to travel to another country to be immersed totally in the English language as we have many native British families living in close proximity to The Lady Elizabeth School. This year we are pleased to continue with our Residential Section where students have the option of staying with a British family. What better way to reinforce the language taught during the day at Summer School than to go home and continue to speak in English with English people. Our Host Families are committed to helping your child to extend their vocabulary and knowledge of English and develop an understanding of the language during real-life situations as well as looking after them in a caring manner and ensuring that they really enjoy their summer! Estancia con Familia Británica No hace falta viajar a otro país para sumergirse totalmente en el idioma inglés; cerca de nuestro colegio, The Lady Elizabeth School, viven numerosas familias británicas. Este año nos complace ofrecerles nuestro Programa de Residencia en Familias por el que los alumnos tienen la opción de alojarse con una familia británica. Qué mejor manera de reforzar lo aprendido en el Colegio de Verano que yendo a casa y continuar hablando en inglés con gente inglesa! Nuestras familias se comprometen a ayudar a sus hijos para que mejoren su vocabulario, su conocimiento del inglés y la comprensión del idioma dentro de situaciones de la vida real, mientras que les cuidan y se aseguran de que pasen un agradable verano. We personally choose the British Family who is most suited to your child s needs. All families are assessed and we have the upmost trust in them. We look at the family situation and the common hobbies and interests that your children and the Host Family may have. We encourage the Host Families to participate in a series of games and activities which helps strengthen the relationship between your child and the Host Family and also encourages speaking in English. On the Sunday before the course commences you have the opportunity to meet with your child s Host Family in a relaxed environment. Our staff members closely monitor the Host Families and the students and ensure that everyone is happy and they regularly communicate this feedback to the parents. Staying with a British Family in such a wonderful environment where the sun doesn t stop shining and the beach is just around the corner creates an excellent atmosphere conducive to learning another language. Buscamos familias que tengan pasatiempos e intereses comunes con sus hijos para que les ayude a crear un lazo de amistad que fomente el aprendizaje del idioma. El domingo previo al comienzo del curso, tendrán la oportunidad de conocer a la familia dentro de un entorno relajado. Nuestros monitores están disponibles en todo momento para asegurarse de que sus hijos están contentos y para comunicar de manera regular con ustedes. 3 A Day in the Life of our Students Students wake up in the house of their Host Family and are immediately speaking and communicating in English. They travel to School either in the car, with their Host Family, or on the school bus. The School day begins at and includes four interesting and quality English lessons, and four fun activities including; Sport or Dance, Drama, Swimming, Art and Cooking. All subjects are taught in English. During lunch-time a healthy lunch is eaten in the School Cafeteria and then the students can participate in football or basketball matches, play table tennis or badminton in the gym, join one of the many supervised activities or just relax whilst they are waiting for the afternoon lessons to begin. At 16.30, after a busy but rewarding day, pupils return to their Host Family either via car or the school bus. Upon returning to the house they will enjoy dinner with their Host Family and can practise the English that they have learnt during the School day. On Thursday night the residential students stay at School to enjoy a pool party and a disco followed by a meal and then they return to their Host Family. This evening activity is a great opportunity for the residential children to get together to help create lasting friendships that always eventuate in Summer School. Each Saturday a trip to local theme parks Terra Mitica or Aqualandia is organised and all pupils have a fun day out with their monitors and members of staff. The Course English Lessons During English lessons students will learn the basic language skills, speaking, listening writing and reading. Particular emphasis is placed on communicating comfortably in English. Teachers also concentrate on teaching the language based on real-life situations and basic History, Geography and Science are taught throughout English classes at all levels. Students participate in role plays and complete activities which ensure a total immersion in the language. We aim to keep the lessons interesting and diverse so that the students are not just drilled in grammar which can sometimes lead to boredom. English classes are organised according to age and ability and in all age groups there are four levels ensuring that your child is placed at the right level. Students will be moved within these groups if the level is found to be inappropriate. Activities Swimming, Drama, Sport, Cooking and Art are taught by specialised teachers. Drama is an excellent way for the students to interact with their friends and to gain confidence when communicating with others. All students have the opportunity and are encouraged to participate in the drama production at the end of the second, fourth and sixth week. During the course we run sporting competitions in football, volleyball and basketball and also swimming galas where students can earn points for their team. Un día en la Vida de Nuestros Alumnos Los alumnos se despiertan en casa de la familia inglesa y automáticamente hablan y se comunican en inglés. Van al colegio en coche, con la familia, o en autobús. El día escolar comienza a las e incluye cuatro clases de inglés, interesantes y de calidad, y cuatro actividades entre las que se incluyen: deporte, drama, natación, arte y cocina. Todas las actividades se imparten en inglés. La comida es en la cafetería del colegio y los alumnos pueden participar en juegos de baloncesto o fútbol, ping-pong o bádminton en el gimnasio, apuntarse a actividades o, sencillamente, relajarse en espera de las clases de la tarde. A las 16.30, tras un día entretenido, los alumnos vuelven con sus familias de acogida en coche o autobús. Una vez en casa, disfrutarán de la cena con la familia inglesa y podrán practicar el inglés aprendido en el colegio. Los miércoles por la tarde, los alumnos que están con familias de acogida se quedan en el colegio para disfrutar de una fiesta y discoteca junto a la piscina, seguido de una cena antes de volver con sus familias. Esta actividad vespertina es ideal para que los alumnos se conozcan mejor y así poder crear amistades que siempre resultan ser muy duraderas. Todos los sábados, organizamos una excursión a Terra Mítica o Aqualandia a la que los alumnos acuden con los monitores y profesores. El Curso Clases de Inglés Durante las clases de inglés, los alumnos practican las técnicas básicas para el aprendizaje de un idioma, aural-oral, escritura y lectura. El énfasis lo ponemos en la comunicación en inglés. Los profesores también concentran sus esfuerzos en la enseñanza del inglés a todos los niveles en situaciones de la vida real, y también como parte de otras asignaturas del currículo como la historia, la geografía y las ciencias. Los alumnos participan en juegos de roles y completan actividades que les ayudan a sumergirse totalmente en el idioma. Nuestro objetivo es impartir clases de inglés interesantes y diversas para que los alumnos disfruten y, como consecuencia, saquen el mayor provecho posible de las clases. Las clases de inglés se organizan dependiendo de la edad y del nivel de inglés, disponiendo de cuatro niveles de inglés diferentes en cada grupo para asegurarnos de que su hijo/a se encuentre en su nivel apropiado. De todas formas, los alumnos cambiarán de grupo si es necesario. Actividades Profesores especialistas imparten las clases de natación, drama, deporte, cocina y arte. Drama es la forma perfecta para que los alumnos interactúen con sus amigos y ganen confianza en comunicación. Todos los alumnos tienen la oportunidad de participar en una pequeña obra teatral al final de la segunda, cuarta y sexta semana. Durante el curso organizamos competiciones deportivas en fútbol, voleibol y baloncesto así como una gala de natación en las que los alumnos ganan puntos para sus equipos. 4 English Opens Up Your World The School The Lady Elizabeth School is known for excellence, boasting wonderful results and it is a college renowned for International flair. The Lady Elizabeth School has good facilities and English classes at Summer School take place in large, fully equipped classrooms with interactive white boards. The computer suites are utilised to enhance the learning of English with interactive programmes and the use of ICT to prepare brochures, newspapers, magazines, presentations etc. Cooking classes take place in the Food Science room, lessons in drama are taught in the Theatre and the Dance Studio is utilised for dance. Basketball, volleyball, football and a number of other sporting activities are played either in the Gymnasium or on the Sports Court and swimming classes take place in the 25 Metre Outdoor Pool. The combination of great facilities, an excellent academic record and a wonderful location means that The Lady Elizabeth School provides students with the best chance to learn English in an environment conducive to learning. Nuestros Profesores Our staff consists of Native British teachers who are highly qualified and dedicated in teaching English to students who attend Summer School from all over the world. Pupils will benefit from their expertise in all fields. Our teachers are assisted by our enthusiastic monitors who help with sport, drama, swimming, art, dance, cooking and other activities including the weekly outside activity. Any language is learnt to a higher level when students are exposed to that language in all situations. When they are participating in activities all day where the Native English teachers communicate in English only, they will become more fluent, their pronunciation will be better and they will understand more of the everyday real-life language.
