And Mrs. Anybody never do any housework, they have a charwoman who does it for them. Verdadero Falso When they arrive home for lunch, the children sit to watch T.V. Verdadero Falso Mr. Anybody picks Mrs. Anybody and the children on his way back home in the evening. Verdadero Falso They usually go to bed at about eight o clock Verdadero Falso Jim and Jane are the twin children of Mr. And Mrs. Anybody Verdadero Falso Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 1 de 17
2. An ordinary day at school From Monday to Friday Jim and Jane spend most of their time at school. They arrive at a quarter past eight and they leave school at a quarter past five... nine hours, all together! The school opens at eight o clock but students cannot enter their classrooms before eight fifty (ten minutes to nine), so from a quarter past eight to ten to nine Jim and Jane play with their schoolmates in the playground except when it rains or it is very cold. At ten to nine students are in their classroom to register and at nine o clock they start their daily classes. Let s have a look at Jim s timetable in an ordinary day Fíjate en el horario de Jim. REGISTER Students in schools in Britain have to be in time to "register". At REGISTER the teacher calls the names of the students in the class to see if they are there. When a student is late to "Register" he or she has to go to the school secretary and give the reasons why he/she has been late. ASSEMBLY Each morning, the students in a class, or sometimes the entire school, gather (se juntan) to hear announcements, listen to the words of a famous guest, exchange experiences... AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS After classes some students go back to their houses but others stay at school for extracurricular activities. Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 2 de 17
Comprueba que lo has entendido 2 Contesta a estas preguntas después de asegurarte de que has comprendido bien la lectura anterior 1.- At what time does Jim start his lessons? 2.- How many segments of break are there in Jim's timetable? 3.- Do Jim and Jane go to their classrooms as soon as they arrive to school? 4.- What do they do from a quarter past eight to ten to nine? 5.- What happens if a child is late to "Register"? 3. Do Jim and Jane like school? Ask them (pregúntales). Them y todos los otros que aparecen en el listado que verás a continuación PERSONAL PRONOUNS (OBJECT) ME YOU HIM HER IT US YOU THEM (AUDIO: PERSONAL_PRONOUNS_OBJECT.MP3 ) Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 3 de 17
Aquí tienes dos ejemplos Jim and Jane are playing // Mary is making a telephone call Quién está jugando? Jim and Jane que son las personas que realizan la acción de y por tanto el sujeto: Jim and Jane = THEY Quién está llamando por teléfono? Mary es la persona que realiza la llamada: Mary = SHE Ahora fíjate en estas oraciones: Jim and Jane are playing with their classmates Mary is making a telephone call to her friend Peter Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 4 de 17
O A quién está telefoneando Mary? with their classmates to her friend Peter Ni los compañeros y compañeras de clase ni Pedro son quienes realizan la acción sino quienes la reciben y por tanto si hemos de sustituirlos por un pronombre personal ha de ser por uno que esté en el listado de: PERSONAL PRONOUNS (OBJECT) Con lo que nuestras oraciones quedarían así: Jim and Jane are playing with them Mary is making a telephone call to him Comprueba que lo has entendido 3 En las siguientes oraciones elige el pronombre personal correcto de entre los que aparecen entre paréntesis 1.- (I, you, she) are going to school with (him, he, his) 2.- Please, give (she, her, we) her coat and umbrella 3.- (us, you, we) want to visit (they, them, their) in Toronto 4.- Give (I, you, me) your umbrella, please 5.- (you, he, we) doesn t understand (his, her, we) Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 5 de 17
My sister is playing with a ball She is playing with it 1.- John is going to the cinema with his parents 2.- My friend and I like this chocolate cake 3- The teacher is asking questions to his students 4.- Our parents are coming to visit my husband and I 5.- Peter is not buying the books 4. LUNCH TIME AND AFTER SCHOOL CLASS Lunch time and after school clubs are Jim's favourite times at school. Lunch Time Pupils at Jim and Jane s school can either bring their own lunch or purchase lunch at the school Canteen. At 12 o clock all pupils go to the dining hall (canteen) and eat together, those who have brought (han traido) their lunch and those who purchase it. During lunch there are always three or four teachers keeping an eye on pupils to ensure that they eat their meals. If a child does not eat his/her meal the school informs his/her parents. Click here to have a look at the weekly menu of our school canteen: march-2009/ Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 6 de 17
(AUDIO: LUNCH_TIME.MP3 ) After School Clubs The school offers a wide variety of After School Clubs from a quarter past three to six o clock. Students can join one or more clubs and spend from one to one and a half hours doing that activity. These are the Clubs that Jim and Jane s school offers to the pupils. The clubs in red are the ones Jim attends and those in blue the ones Jane attends. Art and Craft Club Football Spanish Italian Netball Drama ICT Production Club Badminton Table Tennis Dance Family Reading Club Chess Club Rugby The school also offers Aftercare between 3.15 and 6.00 pm. Aftercare is like a club for those students who need some help because they are a bit slow or for those who are extremely good. And for those children who go back home at five past three and need help with their homework the school has a especial site. Have a look at this one!
Te has fijado en el verbo To Be? Sigue siendo el "odd man/woman out" (el/la diferente, el bicho raro, el/la inadaptado/a...) y utiliza más formas que nadie: Y el tiempo nos queda así: VERB: TO BE // SIMPLE PAST I WAS YOU WERE SHE, HE, IT, WAS WE WERE YOU WERE THEY WERE Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 9 de 17
1.- Yesterday Jim and Jane (go) to school by car. 2.- Their mother (be) ill and she (have) to stay in bed. 3.- Yesterday evening Jim and Jane (do) their homework and helped their father with the housework. 4.- For dinner they (eat) pizza because their father (be) too tired to cook. Jim and Jane (be) very happy because they like pizza.
Comprueba que lo has entendido 6 Elige la forma correcta de pronombre personal: 1.- (He, they, you) takes (they, them, she) home by car He...them They...she You...they 2.- (we, us, she) keep (it, they, he) in our house We...it Us...they She...he 3.- (I, she, it) knows (we, they, us) and writes letters to (we, they, us) It...we...they She...us...us I...they...we 4.- His father asked (him, he, his) some questions him he his Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 11 de 17
1.- The teacher(woman) is giving a new book to the students 2.- Mary speaks French to John and John speaks English to Mary 3.- The mothers are looking after their children 4.- That man can tell Peter, John and you the answer 5.- My mother and I are going to buy a new car Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 12 de 17
ANEXO SOLUCIONARIO Comprueba que lo has entendido 1 (solución) Mr. And Mrs. Anybody never do any housework, they have a charwoman who does it for them. Falso They haven t got a charwoman, Mr. And Mrs. Anybody do the housework after tea and sometimes the children help them. When they arrive home for lunch, the children sit to watch T.V. Falso The Anybodies never go back home for lunch Mr. Anybody picks Mrs. Anybody and the children on his way back home in the evening. Verdadero Mr. Anybody fetches Mrs. Anybody outside the supermarket at ten past five and they both fetch the children outside school before going home. They usually go to bed at about eight o clock Falso The children go to bed at about a quarter to nine and their parents at ten or half past ten. Jim and Jane are the twin children of Mr. And Mrs. Anybody Falso Jim and Jane are not twins, Jim is twelve and Jane is ten Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 13 de 17
Comprueba que lo has entendido 2 (solución) 1.- At what time does Jim start his lessons? Jim starts his lessons at nine o'clock 2.- How many segments of break are there in Jim's timetable? There is only one segment of "break", from half past ten to ten to eleven 3.- Do Jim and Jane go to their classrooms as soon as they arrive to school? No, they don't. Jim and Jane cannot enter their classrooms until ten to nine. 4.- What do they do from a quarter past eight to ten to nine? They play with their classmates in the playground. 5.- What happens if a child is late to "Register"? If a child is late to Register s/he has to go to the school Secretary and inform of her/his delay Comprueba que lo has entendido 3 (solución) En las siguientes oraciones elige el pronombre personal correcto de entre los que aparecen entre paréntesis 1.- (I, you, she) YOU are going to school with (him, he, his) HIM 2.- Please, give (she, her, we) HER her coat and umbrella 3.- (us, you, we) WE want to visit (they, them, their) THEM in Toronto 4.- Give (I, you, me) ME your umbrella, please 5.- (you, he, we) HE doesn t understand (his, her, we) HER Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 14 de 17
Comprueba que lo has entendido 4 (solución) En las siguientes oraciones cambia la(s) palabra(s) que aparecen en cursiva y negrita por el correspondiente pronombre personal Ejemplo: My sister is playing with a ball She is playing with it 1.- John HE is going to the cinema with his parents THEM 2.- My friend and I WE like this chocolate cake IT 3- The teacher HE OR SHE is asking questions to his students THEM 4.- Our parents THEY are coming to visit my husband and I US 5.- Peter HE is not buying the books THEM Comprueba que lo has entendido 5 (solución) 1.- Yesterday Jim and Jane (go) WENT to school by car. 2.- Their mother (be) WAS ill and she (have) HAD to stay in bed. 3.- Yesterday evening Jim and Jane (do) father with the housework. DID their homework and helped their 4.- For dinner they (eat) EAT tired to cook. Jim and Jane (be) WERE pizza because their father (be) WAS very happy because they like pizza. too Helped Bloque V. Tema 3, Página 15 de 17
Comprueba que lo has entendido 7 (solución) 1.- The teacher(woman) IT SHE to the students THEM is giving a new book 2.- Mary SHE speaks French to John HIM and John HE speaks English to Mary HER 3.- The mothers THEM THEY are looking after their children 4.- That man YOU HE the answer can tell Peter, John and you IT 5.- My mother and I WE are going to buy a new car Bloque V.
