6 Lea atentamente el siguiente texto. Mobile phones A mobile or cellular telephone is a low-range, portable electronic device for mobile communication. In addition to the basic functions of a telephone, current mobile phones can have many additional services such as text messaging, , access to internet, and sending and receiving photos and videos. Mobile phones are different from cordless telephones.they generally operate only within a limited range of a specific base station. Several big cities, such as Santiago, have more mobile phones than people. Some cellular systems are pay as you go for which you buy a card in a wide variety of shops. Many are pay monthly, where a bill is issued every month for the amount of calls and messages. In fewer than twenty years, mobile phones have gone from being rare and expensive pieces of equipment used primarily by business people to a low cost item. It is not uncommon for some people to simply own a mobile phone instead of a land-line for their residence. Most schools have prohibited mobile phones in the classroom due to the high amount of class disruptions that result from their use, and due to the possibility of photographing someone without permission. It is also prohibited on aircraft because of possible interference with aircraft radio communications. Mobile-phone use while driving is common, but controversial. In Chile it can be operated in a hands-free fashion. However, some studies have found similarly elevated accident rate among drivers using hands free phones, suggesting that the distraction of a telephone conversation itself is the main safety problem. Guidelines on proper cell phone etiquette Let voice mail take calls when you are in meetings, courtrooms, restaurants and other busy areas Speak in a regular conversational tone. People tend to speak more loudly than normal on a wireless phone and often don t recognize how distracting they can be to others. Set the ringer on vibrate or turn off your phone in public places such as movie theaters and religious services.
