1 Lesson 46: -est, most, least Lección 46: -est, la/lo más, la/lo menos Reading (Lectura) Jackie is the most beautiful of all four sisters. (Jackie es la más guapa de todas las cuatro hermanas.) The most enjoyable class is English. (La clase más agradable es la de inglés.) This is the easiest exam we had this semester. (Este es el exámen más fácil que hemos tenido este semestre.) That young man over there is the richest man in our town. (Ese hombre joven de allí es el más rico de nuestra ciudad.) Who is the most famous female singer in your country? ( Quién es la cantante más famosa de tu país?) Is she the most talkative student in the class? ( Es ella la estudiante más locuaz de la clase?) 1
2 Where can I find the nearest hospital from here? ( Dónde puedo encontrar el hospital más cercano de aquí?) You have three sons and two daughters. Who is the youngest? (Tienes tres hijos y dos hijas. Quién es el más joven?) I find gardening the least enjoyable. (Creo que la jardinería es lo menos agradable.) Don t you think that the science class is the least exciting? ( No crees que la clase de ciencia es la menos emocionante?) Grammar focus (Enfoque Gramatical) Utiliza un adjectivo/adverbio + est para los adjetivos o adverbios que tenga una o dos sílabas y most + adjetivo/adverbio para los adjetivos o adverbios que tengan más de dos sílabas, para describir que una cosa está por encima de todas las demás. A esto se le llama superlativo. E.g.)You are the tallest of all. (Tú eres el más alto de todos) You are the most creative in the class. (Eres el más creativo de todos en la clase) Utiliza least+adjective/adverb para describir. Para describir que algo es más pequeño en extensión, grado o significado. E.g.)You are the least tall of all. (Tú eres el menos alto de todos) Algunos adjetivos/adverbios cambian de manera irregular. Por ejemplo, good (bueno) cambia a best (mejor), y bad (malo) cambia a worst (peor). E.g.)Your score is the best. (Tus notas son las mejores) Tom s score is the worst. (Las notas de Tom son las peores) 2
