3 Religious Education Classes for December: Sunday classes: 13 th. There will be no classes on the 20 th or 27 th. Tuesday classes: 15 th. There will be no classes on the 22 nd or 29 th. Wednesday classes: 16 th. There will be no classes on the 23 rd or 30 th. Children s Christmas Eve Mass and Pageant The annual Children s Christmas Eve Mass and Pageant will take place on Thursday, Dec. 24 th, at 4pm, if we have enough children interested in this event. Parents may sign up their children to be one of the characters in the pageant. The characters remaining include the 3 Magi (wise men), angels and shepherds. The children will dress in costume and participate in the pageant as an adult narrates the Christmas story. The children do not have speaking parts. There will be two practices for the pageant, Sunday Dec. 20 th at 3pm, and Monday, Dec. 21 st, at 6:30pm. The children must attend both practices. Adults are also needed to help with the following: Assist with costumes. Move the manger from the storage building to the sanctuary on Sunday, Dec. 20 th, and return it to the storage building after the pageant on the 24 th. Be a prompter for the shepherds, angels, and magi during the practices and during the pageant. Move the costumes and props to the Parish Center after the pageant. Remove props from the sanctuary after the pageant. To sign up your child or volunteer to help, send an to susanwarner0309@sbcglobal.net, a text to Susan Warner at , or stop by the Religious Education office during office hours or class time. Child Care Child Care is available during the 10:30am Mass in the Parish Center for children who have not reached the age of 4. The child caregivers include Barbara and Wayne Meshell, Elvia Valle, and Mary Robinson. Each caregiver has been screened through the Safe Environment program. Child care is available only on the Sundays that Religious Education classes are held. Occasionally, Child Care is cancelled when the number of caregivers is not sufficient to provide the supervision required. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Coffee and Catechism You are invited to coffee in the Religious Education office on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 6:25pm followed by an hour helping in one of the Religious Education classrooms or monitoring a hallway during class time. This is a great way to learn more about the Catholic Faith or refresh some things you may have forgotten. We have excellent Catechists, but we are often short of the required 2 nd screened adult in the classroom. This is not difficult work and most of the adults comment that they really learn a lot and enjoy helping. At this time there are no inside hall monitors or outdoor monitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Perhaps you are a parent with children in the Religious Education program or your children did attend at one time. If you have never helped with this program, perhaps now is the time to pay it forward. We really need your help so that all of our children can have a memorable and safe experience as they study the Catholic faith. If you have a little free time to help, please contact Susan Warner in the Religious Education office, send an to susanwarner0309@sbcglobal.net, or text for details. Thank you. Third Week of Advent Sunday of the Third Week of Advent begins with the Prophet Zephaniah's announcement of liberation and God's presence among the people after decades of their own infidelity. In Luke's Gospel John the Baptist is the focus of the expectation in the people who come to him asking what to do. He exhorts them to integrity and charity and announces the one who is to come: He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Monday is the Memorial of Saint John of the Cross, Priest and Doctor of the Church. We continue to focus on the first readings in this first part of Advent. From the Book of Numbers, we have the proclamation that "a star shall advance from Jacob..." Zephaniah is the prophet of impending doom, if the people don't abandon their idolatry. But this week we read about consoling healing, "on that day," when the Lord comes. Isaiah's message is full of promise: "Turn to me and be safe... for I am God; there is no other!" On Thursday, we reach the December 17th and in these last eight days of Advent the focus returns to the gospels with stories from Jesus' family in the time before he was born. Matthew's gospel offers the genealogy of Jesus' family. On the 18th we read Matthew's account of the nativity: Joseph decides to divorce the pregnant Mary until an angel appears to him in a dream, saying, "It is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her." On the 19th, in the first chapter of Luke's gospel, Elizabeth
