2 National Natural Family Planning Awareness Week is July The Couple to Couple League of Indianapolis will be celebrating Natural Family Planning Awareness Week with a Mass & Reception at St. Monica's beginning at 5:30pm on Wednesday, July 24, ending with a Holy Hour and Benediction from 8-9pm. Please see our table in the narthex following all masses next weekend (July 20-21) for resources on natural family planning and the NFP Ministry at St. Monica's. National Natural Family Planning Awareness Week is July Pro-Woman, Pro-Man, Pro-Child is the theme of this year s Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, a national educational campaign of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to celebrate God s vision for marriage and promote the methods of Natural Family Planning (NFP). NFP is an umbrella term for the safe, natural and effective methods of both achieving and avoiding pregnancy. NFP methods teach couples how to observe and interpret the woman s signs of fertility and infertility. Please also join in a Novena for a rebirth of chastity and purity from July 18th through July 26th, available at select "events" from the navigation bar. In fact, 116 active and retired priests of the Archdiocese, including almost all of the priests who have served St. Monica Parish, retired Archbishop Daniel Buechlein, 41 permanent deacons, and 675 lay men and women are alumni of St. Meinrad. For nearly 160 years, St. Meinrad s monks have served the Church through their prayer and work. Their seminary program offers students excellent spiritual and academic preparation for the priesthood. Additionally, the Lay Degree Program offers master s-level theology courses for men and women. St. Meinrad s Permanent Deacon Formation Program provides individual dioceses with academic and spiritual formation for their deacon candidates. Retreats are also available for individuals or small groups. For young people, the One Bread, One Cup summer liturgical leadership conferences at St. Meinrad offer new skills they can use in their parishes. You can be part of this important work. The monks at St. Meinrad Archabbey encourage you to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. They also humbly ask for your financial support and partnership to continue this work of serving the Church. A priest from St. Meinrad will be here next weekend at all of the Masses to talk in more detail about their work. You will also be receiving a brochure and letter in the mail from Archabbot Justin describing the work of St. Meinrad. Please read the material and respond as generously as you can. St. Monica Football Camp St. Monica Football will have our annual free football camp July 15-18, 6:00-7:30 pm on the football field near the playground. As members of USA Football, we are dedicated to the safety of our players and proper tackling techniques. During camp, our players will learn Heads Up tackling, concussion awareness as well as many other football skills and drills. We will also have CYO Committee members and coaches available for questions and registrations for the upcoming Football season. Coach Ty Hunt, Cardinal Ritter Head Coach will be in attendance one evening to talk to our players. No registration is required! Legion of Mary St. Monica Legion of Mary invites you to join them to recite the rosary every Sunday in the daily Mass chapel at 2:00pm (after 12:30pm Mass). The rosary is recited in both English and Spanish. 3 Catholic Business Exchange Jim McClelland, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, will speak at the July Catholic Business Exchange. His topic will be: From Faithbased Origins to 21st Century Approaches to Social Problems. The event is Friday, July 19, at the North Side Knights of Columbus. Mass starts at 6:30am and the program will be finished by 8:30am. Cost for the program includes a great breakfast and is $15 in advance for members and $21 for non-members. Registration is required. Mass of Remembrance & Brunch Here at St. Monica we recognize the loss many of our parishioners have recently experienced in the death of a husband, wife, or other significant loved one. In remembrance of your loss, we invite you to join us in a special Mass in the chapel here at St. Monica on Friday, July 19 at 12:00 PM. A brunch will follow where you will be able to share memories and struggles with others who are also trying to cope with the loss of a loved one. If this support proves helpful, we would like to extend this gathering of support to you over the next several months, and to all others who would like to join us. CATHOLICISM Video Series CATHOLICISM by Father Robert Barron will be shown this week on Tuesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 18 at 7:00pm - 8:30pm in the St. Augustine Room. Please join us for episodes 3 & 4 of this beautiful series. Each episode takes the viewer on a grand tour of the Catholic world and effectively displays the JOY of the Catholic faith. Please check the display in the narthex and take a flyer which lists all the times and episodes for this summer. RCIA now exists in TWO stages: Inquiry & Catechumenate Inquiry is the necessary start of the RCIA process Inquiry is informal and adults can come to a few sessions or every session For Inquirers who are ready, the next step is the weekly Thursday night Catechumenate Sessions DID YOU KNOW?? RCIA = Inquiry + Catechumenate RCIA is no longer just for Thursday nights at St. Monica! Our Parish RCIA process now exists in two phases: Inquiry & Catechumenate. Adults interested in finding out about the Catholic faith can inquire anytime and there is never any pressure to become Catholic. The Inquiry Sessions take place on two Sunday mornings and one Wednesday evening most months of the year: adults are always welcome to just stop by for an Inquiry Session unannounced, OR, if it is helpful, adults may also call first and meet with someone who can welcome them and answer questions/make them feel at home before attending that first Inquiry session. For those who come regularly to Inquiry for some time, and who, after due reflection feel called to live as disciples in the Catholic Church, the next step is celebration of the Rite of Acceptance and then participation in the weekly Thursday night sessions of the Catechumenate Period. This is new at St. Monica: Inquiry is the beginning of RCIA and only after a suitable period of time in Inquiry will the first Rite be celebrated and the Catechumenate Period begin. Every stage of the RCIA is intended to provide a warm welcome and to fit the spiritual needs of each individual; adults begin in Inquiry whenever they want to, and they can drop out or move on to the next step as they are ready. The Catechumenate will continue to be available throughout most months of the year; Inquirers who want to embrace the faith can make that next step, entering the Catechumenate at any time, rather than at prescribed times. The next Inquiry Sessions will be July 14 and July 24. Join us yourself refer a friend or invite someone you know and accompany them to Inquiry! 3

4 Father Todd's Catechism Series Father Todd will continue his Catechism series on Thursdays from 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm following the 5:30 Mass in the Daily Mass Chapel until the end of the year. All are welcome to join Father for this discussion! St. Christopher Mid-Summer Festival The St. Christopher Mid-Summer Festival will held Thursday-Saturday, July All events will be held on the parish grounds at 16th Street and Lynnhurst Avenue in Speedway. Highlights of the 3-day festival include food, carnival rides, games, bingo, and Monte Carlo games. There is free parking at Speedway High School, with free shuttle service available each night! Pre-sale ride tickets are available at the St. Christopher parish office until right before the festival starts, $14 per 20 ride tickets. Carry-out food hours on Thursday and Friday 4-8:30 PM, Saturday Noon-8:30 PM. For additional information and detailed schedule of events, please go to Helping The Lord s Pantry The Lord's Pantry depends on the nonperishable foods we bring in each week and put in the blue food bin in the Narthex. The Pantry services around 100 clients each week, every Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, 5136 N. Michigan Road. Unfortunately, we cannot use clothing or diapers; please donate those to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Gabriel Project. Catholic Social Teachings: A Call to Action The first theme of Catholic Social Teaching is: Life and Dignity of the Human Person Afghanistan, Mali and Somalia have the 3 highest infant mortality rates in the world. Of the 20 countries with the highest infant mortality rates, 19 are in Africa. The U.S. ranks #174 out of 224 countries. Source: What can I do? Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body of parishioners who assist the Pastor in guiding the parish on issues requiring practical wisdom and investigation. The PPC has three purposes: 1) to investigate pastoral matters; 2) to give these matters in-depth consideration and prayer; and 3) to propose practical conclusions and assist in cultivating our vision. Twelve parishioners discerned their participation on PPC for a threeyear term through June 30, 2015 related to the parish theme of Immersed in Christ: One Body. One Mission.
