Deuteronomy 29:29 The Most Holy Trinity The Holy Trinity. It is in this form that Christ revealed to us the existence of God in three distinct persons when, on the day of the Ascension, he said : Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19) Can a unique God exist in three persons? Christ knows well that the mode of God s existence is well beyond our capability of understanding. The three persons of the Trinity, whom we call Father, Son and Holy Spirit, although distinct from one another, are not three gods. All three exist in a single and unique nature which eludes human comprehension. It is precisely in this that the mystery exists. It follows that these three persons are equal and have the same attributes. Unable to comprehend this, we can only say I believe... as when we make our Profession of Faith. La Sainte Trinté La Sainte Trinité: c est sous cette présentation que le Christ nous a révélé l existence de Dieu en trois personnes distinctes lorsque, le jour de son Ascension, il a envoyé ses apôtres faire des disciples de toutes les nations, les baptisant au nom du Père, et du Fils et du Saint Esprit (Matthew 28: 19). Un Dieu unique peut-il exister en trois personnes? Le Christ sait bien que le mode de Dieu d exister est au dessus de notre capacité de comprendre. Les trois personnes de la trinité qui se nomment le Père, le Fils et le Saint Esprit, bien que distinctes l une de autre ne sont pas trois dieux. Elles subsistent toutes trois dans une seule et unique nature: cette donnée échape à l intelligence humaine; c est précisément en cela que consiste le mystère. Il s ensuit que ces trois personnes sont égales et ont les mêmes attributs. Incapable de comprendre, nous n avons qu à dire je crois: c est notre profession de foi. La Santisima Trinidad La Santísima Trinidad. Es la manera en que Cristo revelo a nosotros la existencia de Dios en tres distintas personas, cuando en el día de la Ascensión, el dijo: Vayan pues, y hagan que todos los pueblos sean mis discípulos. Bautícenlos en el Nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. (Mateo 28:19) Puede existir un solo Dios en tres personas? Dios sabe muy bien que la existencia de Dios es mucho mayor que nuestra capacidad para entenderlo. Las tres personas de la Trinidad, que llamamos Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, aunque son tres distintas personas, no son tres dioses. Los tres existen en una sola persona del cual nuestra humanidad no puede comprender. Aquí es donde existe el misterio. Estas tres personas son iguales y tienen una propiedad inherente. Nuestra inhabilidad de comprender esto, nos hace decir Yo creo cuando hacemos nuestra profesión de Fe. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK In cases of serious illness or advancing age, please call the Rectory to arrange a visit. COMMUNION CALLS Please call the Rectory to arrange a visit by a priest. 3 JUNE 22 MEET AND GREET NEW PARISHIONERS On Sunday, June 22nd, immediately following the 11:30 a.m. mass, St. Gregory s will have a Welcome to the Parish celebration for all who are new to our Parish family. There will be food, raffle prizes and a wonderful opportunity to meet your fellow parishioners old and new. The event will take place in the playground on the east side of the church, weather permitting. We are asking for volunteers to help make this event a success. Please phone the Rectory Office if you are willing to help set up, serve and then put away tables and chairs at the conclusion of the celebration. All are welcome, old and especially new parishioners, and regardless of which mass you usually attend. MAKING ALL THINGS NEW REPORT On June 3, representatives of the six Upper West Side parishes in our Making All Things New parish cluster met and voted unanimously to confirm the April recommendations of the Archdiocesan Advisory Group [half clergy and half laypersons], with some few small exceptions. What this means, in effect, is that no parish in the cluster, including St. Gregory s, will be closed or consolidated because of the Making All Things New process. The final word on closure or consolidation is, of course, up to Cardinal Dolan, and that will come in September. But for now, St. Gregory s has every reason to be pleased and grateful for this outcome. In the future, Making All Things New may cause certain changes and collaborations among our Parish and the five other parishes in the cluster. But at least we shall be able to face those changes as an independent surviving parish, cherishing our unique character and history. NEXT SVDPS MEETING; SVDPS RUMMAGE SALE Our parish conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society announces its next regular meeting, to take place on Tuesday evening, June 17, at 6:30 in the Rectory. Persons interested in the Society s work for the poor of the Parish are encouraged to attend. The space in the church basement allotted to SVDPS storage is limited. Consequently, SVDPS asks parishioners please not to make any new donations of sale items of any kind until further notice. HAITIAN THREE-DAY RETREAT HERE Our Haitian community announces a three-day retreat at St. Gregory s, under the slogan Jericho Services take place on Thursday, June 19, and Friday, June 20, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m on both days; and on Saturday, June 21 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The celebrant is Brother Anthony Jean Baptiste. In French, but all are welcome. BIENVENIDA A NUEVOS PARROQUIANOS El Domingo Junio 22, después de la misa de las 11:30 a.m. San Gregorio ofrecerá una celebración de Bienvenida a la Parroquia a todas las personas nuevas a nuestra familia Parroquial. Ofreceremos comida, premios y una gran oportunidad para conocer a todos los parroquianos tanto los nuevos como los viejos. (es decir no viejos de edad sino del tiempo que tienen de ser miembros de la parroquia). El evento tendrá lugar en el parque al Este de la iglesia, si la temporada lo permite. RETIRO HAITIANO DE TRES DIAS Nuestra comunidad Haitiana tendrá un retiro de tres días aquí en San Gregorio cuyo tema será Jericó Este retiro tendrá lugar el Jueves 19 de Junio, Viernes 20 de Junio de 7:00 hasta las 9:30p.m. en estos dos días y el Sábado 21 de Junio comenzara a las 6:00 hasta las 10:00p.m. El retiro será en Francés dirigido por el Hermano Anthony Jean Baptiste, y todos están cordialmente invitados. Take a look at page 11 B of the May 29 issue of CNY to see that proved. The unnamed smiling child from St. Gregory s School [SGS] steals the photo from Music Director Jim Trainor and even from Cardinal Dolan. The occasion was the May 12 mass here celebrating the Centennial of SGS. A second good reason to get that issue of CNY is the fascinating description on page 9 of the curious path to Catholicism taken by TV comedy writer Tom Leopold, who was born a Jew. Even a few laughs here. La ocasión fue la misa del 12 de Mayo durante la celebración del Centenario de SGS. The Parish just might be solvent if we attained that each week. Last weekend s [6/8/14] collection totaled $6,571, which includes ParishPay gifts. Donations from a 6/7/14 Haitian Pentecostal service totaled $178. Elsewhere in this Bulletin is the good news that our Parish seems to have survived the Making All Things New review. But it is reasonable to think that, in the long run, the Archdiocese will require parish solvency as a major factor in parish survival. St. Gregory s, on its best weekends, is close to solvency.
