Psalm 96: 1-2 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time The Gospel of this Sunday reports that at the wedding feast at Cana, Jesus performs his first miracle. At his mother s request, he changes water into wine. This is the first sign he gives. The signs that Jesus gives are directionals held out to his disciples as well as to us as believers of the beginning of the third millennium. Through our faith, we are invited to welcome the entry of Jesus into the course of human history. Jesus is the Son of God. Through him, everything changes. Through him, God accomplishes his great project of redeeming fallen mankind. The inspiration that Jesus sends into our lives helps us take the great leap into faith and all its manifestations. Through that faith and its abundance of blessings, we know that God shares his life with us. Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario El Evangelio de este Domingo nos indica que en una boda en Cana Jesús hizo su primer milagro. Por la solicitud de su madre, el cambio agua a vino. Esta es la primera señal que el hizo. Las señales que Jesús da son direcciones a sus discípulos como también a todos los creyentes en el comienzo del tercer mileño. Por medio de nuestra fe somos invitados a darle la bienvenida a Jesús en nuestra historia humana. Jesús es el Hijo de Dios. Por medio de el todo cambia. Por medio de el Dios adquiere de nuevo a la humanidad perdida. Jesús nos inspira a manifestar nuestra fe. Por medio de nuestra fe y la abundancia de nuestras bendiciones, sabemos que Jesús comparte su vida con nosotros. Deuxième dimanche du temps ordinaire Le récit évangélique de ce dimanche rapporte qu aux noces de Cana, Jésus fait son premier miracle: à la demande de sa mère, Il change l eau en vin. C est le premier signe qu il donne. Le signe est une perche tendue aux disciples de tous les temps, donc à nous aussi, croyants de ce début du troisième millénaire. Dans la foi, nous sommes invités à vivre la rentrée de Jésus sur la scène de l histoire humaine. Jesus est Fils de Dieu. Avec lui tout a changé. En lui, Dieu accomplit en lui son grand projet de racheter l humanité tombée: le peuple n est plus laissé à l abandon. Le souffle de nouveauté envoyé par Jésus dans notre histoire de vie nous lance vers l avant. La nouveauté qui se présente n exige rien de moins qu un saut dans la foi et dans la diversité de ses manifestations. Dans la foi, nous savons que Jésus nous fait entrer dans l abondance, celle qui surgit lorsque Dieu partage sa vie avec nous. There was a wedding at Cana and the mother of Jesus was there. They have no wine, she said to him. Jesus said to her Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come. She said to the servers, Do what ever he tells you. Now there were six stone water jars there. Jesus told them to fill them with water. Draw some out and take to the headwaiter. And when he had tasted the water than had become wine he called the bridegroom and said, Everyone serves good wine first, and when they have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now. Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and the disciples began to believe in him.

3 CARDINAL S APPEAL The 2013 Cardinal s Annual Appeal is under way, and in a January 4 th letter Cardinal Dolan asks for a generous response to help provide millions of dollars in subsidies to our schools, to enrich our religious education programs, to offer emergency funds for those in need because of devastations such as Hurricane Sandy, and to continue many Catholic Charities institutions and programs. Please participate as generously as possible in this year s campaign. SCHOOL BENEFIT A food night fund raiser will be held on Friday, January 20 th, beginning at 8:30 P. M. for the benefit of St. Gregory s School. Tickets will be $20, and $10 for all children under ten. The event is a fund-raiser for the school. There will be a story time with Michael Lerner and a performance By Alma Moya. It should be a wonderful evening. For more information, call MUSIC PROGRAM Last week s bulletin announced changes in the 11:30 Mass choir, which is now made up largely of parishioner volunteers. Anyone eager to join the choir should contact Jim Trainor, Music Director, at or at JTBaritone@gmail.com. CHRISTMAS APPEAL The collection for Christmas Gifts to St. Gregory s has been a resounding success, thanks to the great generosity of our parishioners. The money raised will help our parish meet its expenses, finance its program and pay its bills. Final results of the collection will be announced in next week s bulletin. GODDARD RIVERSIDE MEALS Breakfast and lunch are served to those 60 and over Monday through Friday at the Goddard Riverside Community Center, 593 Columbus Avenue (at 88 th Street). The suggested donations are $1.00 for breakfast and $2.00 for lunch. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 A. M., and lunch from 12 Noon to 1 P. M. Every Wednesday the breakfast features Bingo prizes. HAITIAN CONTRIBUTIONS Thanks go to our Haitian parishioners for their generosity in contributing money raised from two recent events: $1,000 from a December dinner dance and $127 from last Saturday s retreat. A CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Calvary@Home is seeking volunteers to assist elderly patients in their homes. Those with special skills (hairdressers, musicians, speakers of other languages, etc.) are encouraged to apply. Training is provided in person or online. Call for more information. CAMPANA DEL CARDENAL La campaña del Cardenal de 2013 ya ha comenzado.
