Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. The symbols include either three crowns, or a single crown, various portrayals of the Magi or Wise Men, three gifts, a five pointed star, or a combination of a star and crown. Around January 6, the symbol +C+B+M+ with two numbers before and two numbers after,(i.e., 20+C+B+M+13) is sometimes seen written in chalk above the doorway of homes. The letters are the initials of the traditional names of the Three Magi: Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. These letters also abbreviate the Latin phrase Christus mansionem benedicat, May Christ bless the house. The beginning and ending numbers are the year, the crosses represent Christ. 5 The Epiphany of the Lord January 6, 2013 Page 5 Ministries The Solemnity of the Epiphany celebrated today has a rich liturgical tradition. Many view it as just the visit of the Magi to the baby Jesus, but the translation means revelation and is associated historically with several revelations of Christ including his baptism in the Jordan, and his first miracle at Cana. We note that the Magi were Gentiles not Jews and were the first to adore Jesus. In the Gospel, Matthew points us to the concept that Jesus is God to the whole world not a select few. The reading from Isaiah today instructs Jerusalem to Rise up and be a light for other nations. We are also called to proclaim God s glory, to be a light for others in our families, neighborhoods and churches. As we praise God for the many gifts received and show our joy, we reflect the Lord s glory to those around us. We pray that those whom God has placed in our care in RCIA can see our joy and are inspired by the light of God that shines within us. This is our hope, our prayer, our ministry. Check out our new website at Iconography Workshop St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church March 21, 22, 23, 2013 The 3 day workshop involves the study of the Byzantine-Russian tradition of icon-writing. The students will write an icon in the ancient medium of egg-tempera. This multilayered process will be presented along with the theological meaning of each step and the rich symbolic associations of the natural materials used. 10 La Epifanía del Señor 6 de enero de 2013 Page 10 Noticias y Eventos ENCUENTRO CON DIOS Los espléndidos Reyes Magos destellantes, majestuoso y solemnes, salen hoy de las páginas de Mateo y van rumbo a nuestra iglesia. Solamente Mateo nos habla de esta grande e interesante historia para que podamos ver la luz y saber que el niño que visitaron los Reyes Magos era el cumplimiento de la profecía, el rey cuyo mensaje llega hasta la tierra natal de estos magos y mucho más allá, hasta nuestra época. Nosotros también nuevamente podemos ver y entender. Al igual que estos magos, nuestros santos patrones en este día, vemos en el niño recién nacido al rey del universo y la luz del mundo. Como los Reyes Magos, encontramos dentro de nosotros una nueva fe y una nueva vida. Como ellos, regresamos a casa por una nueva ruta. Se nos pide terminemos esta temporada festiva renovados y consientes de la presencia de Dios entre nosotros. Se nos pide encontrar a Dios donde se le puede encontrar, que estemos atentos y listos para, con asombro, inclinarnos en adoración y ofrecer nuestras ofrendas. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. CLASES PARA LA PREPARACIÓN DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN PARA ADULTOS 2013 Las clases de Confirmación para adultos son ofrecidas en español y comenzaran lunes, el 4 de febrero, 2013 a las 7:00-8:30 p.m. Requisitos 1. El/la candidato/a tiene que tener 18 años o mayor para participar en las clases de la confirmación de adultos 2. El/la candidato/a tiene que ser un Católico Romano bautizado en la Iglesia 3. El/la candidato/a tiene que haber recibido su primera comunión 4. El/la candidato/a tiene que tener un padrino/madrina confirmado en la Iglesia Católica Antes de llenar la forma de registración, junte los siguientes documentos: certificado bautismal y de la primera comunión. Lleva estos documentos a su parroquia en el día de registración. Tenemos registración después de la misa de 1:30, el 13 de enero y el 27 de enero. Información para los que se Preparan para el Bautismo Clases: Las clases son impartidas el primer domingo de cada mes a las 12:15-1:30 p.m. en cuarto A#1 en la parroquia de Santa Catalina. La aplicación Bautismal debe ser completada antes de la clase. Quién debe atender la clase? Los padres y padrinos deben atender una clase de bautismo. Donde debería realizarse el Bautismo: El lugar mas apropiado para bautizar a un niño es en la Iglesia de la parroquia donde los padres atienden Misa y son registrados. Bautismo: Nuestros bautismos de infantes son programados mensualmente el cuarto domingo de cada mes durante la misa de 1:30. Los padres deben ser miembros de la parroquia de Santa Catalina y los padres necesitan venir a la oficina de la parroquia para la aplicación Bautismal.
