The EIR describes the project and its alternatives, and it evaluates the environmental effects of the project and its alternatives. Project Title: Proposed Valley Region Span K-8 No. 1 Project Location: The approximately 6.67-acre project site is located on the northeastern corner of Bledsoe Street and Dronfield Avenue, in the community of Sylmar, City of Los Angeles. The project site encompasses eight parcels which are currently developed with eight single-family residences. Project Description: The proposed project involves the construction and operation of a new school for grades K-8 on an approximately acre project site. The proposed project would involve development of three classroom buildings; a middle school gymnasium; a multipurpose building with food service facilities; a library; and an administration building. The kindergarten and elementary classroom buildings combined would provide capacity for 750 students. The middle school classroom building would provide capacity for 297 students. The proposed campus would include turf playfields and hardcourts as well as a 93-space surface parking lot for faculty and staff. 4 Notice of Preparation To: From: Subject: Agencies, Organizations, and Interested Parties Los Angeles Unified School District Notice of Preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Report in Compliance with Title 14, Sections 15082(a), 15103, and of the California Administrative Code. The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is the Lead Agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the proposed project identified below. LAUSD has prepared an Initial Study and will prepare an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed project identified below: Project Title: Valley Region Span K-8 No. 1 Agencies: LAUSD requests your agency s views on the scope and content of the environmental information relevant to your agency s statutory responsibilities in connection with the proposed project, in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15082(b). Your agency will need to use the EIR when considering any permit or other approval that your agency must issue for the project. Organizations and Interested Parties: LAUSD requests your comments and concerns regarding the environmental issues associated with construction and operation of the proposed project. Project Location: The approximately 6.67-acre project site is approximately 1,100 feet southwest of the 210 Freeway (Foothill Freeway/Interstate 210) and approximately two miles northeast of the 5 Freeway (Golden State Freeway/Interstate 5), in the community of Sylmar, City of Los Angeles. The project site is bound by Dronfield Avenue on the southeast, by Bledsoe Street on the southwest, single-family residential land uses on the northeast and northwest. Project Description: The Proposed Project involves development of two classroom buildings (elementary and middle school), a middle school gymnasium; a multipurpose building with food service facilities; a library; and an administration building. The elementary school building would provide 30 classrooms and would provide capacity for 750 students, the middle school building would provide 11 classrooms for a capacity of 297 students. The proposed campus would include turf playfields and hardcourts as well as a 93-space surface parking lot. Potential Environmental Effects: LAUSD has determined that an EIR is the appropriate level of environmental documentation for this project. The EIR analysis will include the provision of alternatives, and topic areas will include: aesthetics, air quality,, noise, pedestrian safety, public services, and transportation and traffic. SCOPING MEETING: LAUSD will hold a scoping meeting on February 20, 2008 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Olive Vista Middle School, Tyler Street in Sylmar. Agencies, Organizations, and Interested Parties are welcome to attend and present information that they believe should be addressed in the EIR.
