1 J UNE 1, DE JUNIO, 2014 S EVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER & ASCENSION OF THE LORD VII DOMINGO DE PASCUA Y LA ASCENSIÓN DEL SEÑOR Mary, the Spouse of the Holy Spirit: One time as I was asking our school children about how the Virgin Mary helps us, one student said, "she sends us the Holy Spirit." This struck me as profound (out of the mouths of babes). I have reflected over those words and found them to ring true in the following ways. First, Mary is called the spouse of the Holy Spirit. The first chapter of Matthew says that "the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit." When we pray the Angelus we say, "and she conceived of the Holy Spirit." We also repeat these words every Sunday during the profession of faith. The conception of the Christ-child within the womb of the Virgin Mary took place through the power of the Holy Spirit. In this way, she is the spouse of the Holy Spirit. Second, Mary gave birth to the one through whom the Spirit is sent. The Son of Mary said to his disciples: "Behold, I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate [...]" (Jn. 14). Finally, at Pentecost, upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Spirit descended to prepare them for their mission. Someone as close to the Holy Spirit as Mary cannot help but bring also the Holy Spirit with her. If we want to have a closer relationship to the Holy Spirit, we can ask help from His espoused: Mary. -- Fr. Primero, Maria es llamada esposa del Espíritu Santo. En el primer capitulo de Mateo dice: "Que el niño fue engendrado del Espíritu Santo", cuando rezamos el Ángelus decimos " y fue concebido por obra del Espíritu Santo. También repetimos estas palabras todos los domingos durante la profesión de fe. La concepción del Niño Jesús se llevo acabo por medio del poder del Espíritu Santo. Y es por eso que ella es la esposa del Espíritu Santo. Segundo, Maria dio a luz a el del quien por medio el Espíritu Santo es enviado. El hijo de Maria les dijo a sus discípulos " yo le pediré al Padre, y el te mandara otro defensor, [ } (Jn. 14) Y finalmente, en el día de Pentecostés, el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre los apóstoles y la Santísima Virgen Maria para prepararlos en su misión. Alguien tan cerca como lo es Maria al Espíritu Santo, no puede dejar de tener al Espíritu Santo con ella. The Archdiocese of Galveston Houston requires that ALL church & school volunteers 18 and over that come in contact with minors and/or vulnerable adults attend a VIRTUS session called Protecting God s Children (PGC). The objective of the VIRTUS program is to prevent child sexual abuse and create a safe environment. This is a 3 hour session and is valid for 5 years. VIRTUS Protecting God s Children Session Tuesday, June 3, :00 pm (3hrs) - GYM Due to the content, material, and change in sign-in procedures, please arrive 30 minutes early to show ID and sign in for workshop. You will need to arrive on time. We do not allow late admittance. You will need to re-schedule if you arrive late. There is no babysitting. Do not bring children or youth to the class. 4 S EVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER - ASCENSION OF THE LORD EXPLORE RETREAT St. Mary s Seminary Explore Retreat June :00 am This retreat is for high school boys ages 15-18, who want to experience Christ and grow in relationship with Him. It is an opportunity to set time aside to explore seminary life and learn about the call to holiness and priesthood. The retreat will consist of music, games, faith sharing, fellowship, outdoor activities, creative prayer experiences and much more. Explore will be facilitated by seminarians studying for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. In the application, we ask that the applicant be approved by the pastor, DRE, youth minister or principal. Limit of four participants per parish (Space limited). Cost is $80 per participant. Deadline: June 10. 5 VII DOMINGO DE PASCUA - LA ASCENSIÓN DEL SEÑOR Resurrection Catholic School PK3-8th Grade FAITH, FAMILY, FUTURE Fe, Familia, Futuro Congratulations to the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students who graduated on May 23 rd. They did an impressive job at the ceremony with their songs and dances. In addition, students in 1 st through 7 th grade were recognized for their academic excellence with an Awards Ceremony on May 28 th. We were pleased to see the abundance of awards and certificates that the students received for their hard work and dedication. The Athletic Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to those who helped support their breakfast sale. In addition, Coach Tamez would like to express his gratitude to all of the parents and students who have helped with athletic events this school year. Without all of your support and dedication, these events would not be possible. Now that the school year has concluded, we pray that everyone has a blessed and safe summer.
