2 iograhical note Carlos Zamora Reseña biográfica Carlos Zamora was born in the city of Calama, Chile in May, 196. He began his musical studies with rofessors Carlos Pérez Rozas and Eduardo Zeeda. In 195 he moved to the city of Conceción in order to study music at the University of Conceción. In 1990 he received the title of Music Teacher and the degree of Licentiate in Music Education. In 199 he entered a achelor's degree rogram in comosition at the University of Chile, which he left to oin the Master rogram at the same institution. In 000 he was awarded the degree of Master of Arts in Comosition. He studied orchestral conducting with Wilfried unge Guillermo Scarabino and Guillermo Rifo, contemorary music conducting with Aliocha Solovera, choral conducting with Mario Cánovas and comosition with Miguel Aguilar, Gustavo ecerra and Eduardo Cáceres. In the years 199, 1999 and 000, he articiated in the INUVE Comosition Workshos in Sain, where he attended the classes of Cristóbal Halffter and Mauricio Sotelo. He founded the Chamber Grou of the Silva Lezaeta Institute of the city of Calama and the Choral Worksho of Steel Artists in Conceción. He also served as assistant director of the Symhonic and Chamber Choirs of the University of Conceción between 1990 and 199. He has been invited to conduct several times with various Chilean orchestras and chamber grous. He has received several awards including first lace in the 1997 comosition cometition of the National ederation of Choirs for his work Padre Nuestro Kunza ; first lace for his work Sikuris in the rd Edition of New Works by Chilean Comosers of the University of Chile Symhony Orchestra; 006 est Comoser Award of the Orquesta Moderna of the Escuela Moderna de Música. To date his catalog comrises around sixty works for various chamber ensembles, symhonic, choral symhonic, and oeratic genres. The greater art of his musical outut has been released in most countries of the Americas and also erformed in Euroe, Asia, Oceania and Africa. In addition, several of his works have been recorded on more than 0 CDs. Carlos Zamora nació en la ciudad de Calama en mayo de 196. Realiza sus rimeros estudios musicales con los rofesores Carlos Pérez Rozas y Eduardo Zeeda. En 195 se trasladó a la cuidad de Conceción ara realizar estudios musicales en la Universidad de Conceción. En 1990 recibió el título de Profesor de Música y el grado de Licenciado en Educación Musical. En 199 ingresó a la carrera de Licenciatura en Comosición en la Universidad de Chile, carrera que abandonó ara ingresar al rograma de Magíster de la misma institución. En el año 000 se le otorgó el grado de Magíster en Artes mención Comosición. Estudió Dirección de Orquesta con Wilfried unge Guillermo Scarabino y Guillermo Rifo, Dirección de Música Contemoránea con Aliocha Solovera, Dirección Coral con Mario Cánovas y Comosición con Miguel Aguilar, Gustavo ecerra y Eduardo Cáceres. En los años 199, 1999 y 000, artició en los Camos de Comosición INUVE en Esaña, donde asistió a las clases de Cristóbal Halffter y Mauricio Sotelo. undó el Gruo de Cámara del Instituto Silva Lezaeta de la ciudad de Calama y el Taller Coral de Artistas del Acero en Conceción. También se desemeñó como Director Asistente de los Coros Sinfónico y de Cámara de la Universidad de Conceción entre los años 1990 y 199. Como director de orquesta ha sido invitado a dirigir en varias oortunidades con orquestas chilenas y diversas agruaciones de cámara. OR REERENCE ONLY NOT OR PULIC Ha recibido varios remios entre los que se destacan el Primer lugar en el concurso de comosición de 1997 de la ederación Nacional de Coros or su obra Padre Nuestro Kunza ; Primer lugar con su obra Sikuris en la º versión de Nuevas Obras de Comositores Chilenos de la Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Chile; Premio al Meor Comositor 006 de la Orquesta Moderna de la Escuela Moderna de Música. El año 00 recibió el Premio Obra or Encargo de la SCD; el año 009 el Premio Charles Ives del Instituto Chileno Norteamericano de Cultura or su trayectoria musical; y el año 010 el Premio Escuela Moderna de Música 70 años or su aorte a la cultura musical latinoamericana. Ha sido invitado como reresentante de Chile al festival Word Music Days 000 realizado en Luxemburgo y WMD007 que se realizó en Hong Kong. PERORMANCE USE A la fecha suma en su catálogo unas sesenta iezas ara diversas agruaciones de cámara, de los géneros sinfónico, sinfónico coral y oerático. La mayor arte de su creación musical ha sido estrenada en la mayoría de los aíses de América a la vez de haberse interretado en Euroa, Asia, Oceanía y África. Además, varias de ellas han sido grabadas en más de veinte discos comactos. He was President of the National Association of comosers of Chile between 007 and 009. He is currently an Associate Professor of the University Academy of Christian Humanism. ue Presidente de la Asociación Nacional de Comositores de Chile entre los años 007 y 009. 3 About the work Sikuris Notas sobre la obra Sikuris for large orchestra was written in 1999 to comete in the rd edition of New Works by Chilean Comosers of the Symhony Orchestra of Chile. The work won the cometition and the same year was adated for string orchestra by secial request of the Chamber Orchestra of the Conservatory of the Austral University of Valdivia. This version is titled Tres visiones de un sikuris atacameño (Three visions of an Atacaman Sikuris) and was released the same year. Sikuris has been adated also for chamber orchestra in 009 and for chamber ensemble in 011, by secial request of Caminos del Inca Ensemble. The motif uon which the work is built was comiled in San Pedro de Atacama. The ethnic grou of the region is known as Atacameños, Lican-antay, or Kunza (this last word refers to their language, now extinct, the kunza). The first, in alternating bars of and beats, is energetic and rhythmically agressive.
