4 Week of November 30, 2014 YOUTH PAGE Page Four What is this season of Advent about? It s a time of waiting and watching, a time of preparation. In today s Gospel, Jesus gives some instructions: Jesus said to his disciples: Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: Watch! ATTENTION 8TH GRADERS! Rather than telling us to get anxious, Jesus wants us to be alert. Watch doesn t always mean look out for bad things. We often miss the opportunity to see God at work each day. How can we do that this month? Too often we get stuck in habits of stress and worry. We focus on the negative and feel like we are drowning in it sometimes. Applications for Chicago Public High Schools are due December 12. Take a look at your options. One great one is our Back of the Yards College Prep. If you want to attend there, or others, like Bogan, Curie, Gage Park, Hancock, Hubbard, Kelly, or Kennedy, you must apply for these high schools ONLINE, as well as for any others in the city. But our community offers some wonderful gatherings of celebration this month. Check out the Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe or step in and help with Posadas. Advent is about being ready to see the good surprises that life offers each day, in places we don t expect. Like on a bare, cold hill in Mexico. Or a baby born in a stable. Or, in the Back of the Yards in Chicago... Pues yo soy la Madre misericordiosa, la tuya y la de todos los pueblos que moran en este mundo, de aquellos que me aman, que me invocan, que me buscan y que confían en mí. Quiero escuchar aquí sus lamentos y aliviar y curar sus desgracias, sus dolores, y sufrimientos.. (Nican Mopohua, #24-25) El Miércoles, 3 de diciembre comienza aquí en nuestra parroquia la Novena a Nuestra Madre de Guadalupe. Todos los jóvenes de la parroquia están invitados a celebrar este milagro de nuestra fe junto con toda la parroquia. El Miércoles comenzamos a las pm en la Capilla de Inmaculado Corazòn de María vea la página 3 para el horario de la Novena. JOVENES: MARQUE EL JUEVES 11 para participar especialmente en su noche. Wednesday, December 3, the parish Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe begins. All parish youth are invited to celebrate this miracle of our faith with the whole parish.
