2 PARISH INFORMATION EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: The first Friday of each month from 12:00 Noon to 7pm. Exposition at 12 Noon: Adoration until 7pm: Benediction at 7:00pm BAPTISMS: All Parents must register at the rectory for the Baptism and preparation class ahead of time. English Baptisms: Are on the 1 st & 4 th Sunday of each month at 2:30 pm.. The Baptismal preparation class is required for parents and godparents and is held on the 4 th Monday of the month at 7pm in the rectory meeting room. (holidays excluded) Spanish Baptisms: Are on the 2 nd & 4 th Saturday of each month at 1:00 pm. The Baptismal preparation class is required for parents and godparents and is held on the Monday before Baptisms at 7:00pm in the rectory meeting room. (holidays excluded) WEDDINGS: Arrangements should be made at the rectory with a parish priest or deacon at least four months before the wedding. Normally weddings are for parishioners, but special situations will be considered. We recommend a Wedding Mass for practicing Catholics. We recommend a Wedding Ceremony for non-practicing Catholics or mixed religion couples. Both are valid marriages. A priest is necessary for a Wedding Mass. QUINCEANERA: To have a Quinceanera Mass, a candidate must have been Confirmed & received First Holy Communion. Others will have the Prayer Service & Blessing. A deacon can preside at a Prayer Service & Blessing. All Quinceaneras must be baptized as Catholic Christians. Arrangements must be made at the rectory with a priest or deacon at least two months before. FUNERALS: Arrangements can usually be made with the rectory office by the funeral director. We have the Book of Funeral Readings at the rectory for families who wish to look them over. A priest or deacon will usually attend the wake. SICK CALLS: If someone needs to be Anointed, please call the rectory when they are seriously ill. Don t wait too long! If someone homebound wishes Holy Communion, please call the rectory. 3 ear friends in Sacred Heart: D One of the most beautiful ways to express and celebrate our faith is through the liturgy. Maybe you could notice some differences lately in our Sunday Mass celebration. J.S. Paluch Co., Inc. I would like to mention how we are working with our liturgy groups in Sacred Heart. Formation for all ministers are a very important part of the service they provide for the community. The Sacred Liturgy constantly invites us to celebrate, to love and live our sacraments; but if we do not worry about our instruction, spiritual and biblical formation, how can we love something we do not know? Being alone in the parish has been a big challenge for me, not only for the Masses (which is basically one thing that you can see that a priest does) but for all the other important things I have to take care of in the parish. Putting aside the office work (appointments, administrative paperwork, wedding interviews, etc) I have to plan and work together with the ministers for their own formation. Our Ministers are very well trained, and they know what to do, and my job is to dig deeper in the understanding and spiritual, liturgical and biblical growth of all the liturgy groups (Ministers of Communion, Lectors, Ushers, Choirs, Altar Servers). I started working together with our Ministers of Communion, Altar Servers and our Music Director because they have a closer participation into the Sacred Liturgy. We have had several meetings and we have reviewed our guidelines; we know more about Liturgy and its rhythm, times and cadence. Later in 2016 I will be working with Lectors and Ushers. We need to work together and promote an active and concience participation of our community as it was requested since the Vatican Council II. There is a lot more to do. Administrator Dear Jeanne Flyke and Friends of Sacred Heart, On behalf of everyone at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, especially our elder friends, thank you for remembering Chicago s lonely and isolated seniors. We are so very appreciative of your support over the years and take great pleasure in helping you to deliver upon your mission to provide a happier Christmas season to our seniors in need. Your beautiful hand-made items consisting of 250 pairs of slippers and 100 lap blankets are lovely gifts for our seniors - the variety of colors will brighten their rooms! Some were delivered throughout the month of December with Christmas gifts and the remaining hand-made items will be delivered for birthday gifts over the coming months. Seniors, especially those on a limited income or experiencing a temporary hardship, rely on Little Brothers to provide nutritious food to keep their cupboards stocked until their next social security check and your in-kind donation of food helped to fill food bags for seniors in need. For 56 years Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly has relied on support from individuals and community partners. We are honored to once again be a beneficiary of your holiday giving to help those who are less fortunate. Wishing you all a wonderful year! The Feast of St. Blaise is Wednesday, February 3. There will be a General Blessing of the Throats after all the Masses the weekend of January 30/31. Individual blessing of throats will be after Mass on February 3rd. The Bishop Blasé was martyred in his Episcopal city of Sebastea, Armenia, in 316. Blasé was a good bishop, working hard to encourage the spiritual & physical health of his people. Blasé was forced to flee back to his country due to the threat of prosecution, where he lived in solitude & prayer with wild animals. When hunters found Blasé & hauled him off to prison, a mother came with her young son who had a fish bone lodged in his throat. At Blasé s command the child was able to cough up the bone. Blasé then was tortured & beheaded. Through the intercession of St. Blaisé, bishop & martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat and from every other evil. Sacrament of Confirmation of Adults Parishes and Vicariate Bishops are scheduling adult Confirmation celebrations for adults. Active Catholics, age 19 and old who have celebrated the sacraments of Baptisms and Eucharist are invited to participate in the program. Tal vez ustedes han notado algunas diferencias últimamente en nuestra celebración dominical. Me gustaría hablar de cómo vamos a trabajar con nuestros grupos de liturgia en el Sagrado Corazon. La formación para todos los ministros son una parte muy importante del servicio que prestan a la comunidad. La Sagrada Liturgia constantemente nos invita a celebrar, amar y vivir nuestros sacramentos; pero si no nos preocupamos por nuestra instrucción, nuestra formacion espiritual y formación bíblica, cómo podremos amar algo que no conocemos? Estar solo en la parroquia ha sido un gran reto, no sólo por las misas (que es, básicamente, lo que pueden ver de lo que hace un sacerdote), pero para el resto de las cosas importantes que tienen que hacerse cargo de la parroquia. Dejando de lado el trabajo de oficina (citas, trámites administrativos, entrevistas de bodas, etc) tengo que planificar y trabajar junto con los ministros en su propia formación. Nuestros ministros están muy bien entrenados y saben qué hacer, y mi trabajo consiste en profundizar con ellos en la comprensión y el crecimiento espiritual, litúrgico y bíblico de todos los grupos de liturgia (Ministros de la Comunión, Lectores, Acomodadores, Coros, Monaguillos). Empecé a trabajar junto con nuestros Ministros de la Comunión, monaguillos y nuestro director musical, porque tienen una participación "más cerca" en la Sagrada Liturgia. Hemos tenido varias reuniones y hemos revisado nuestras guias; sabemos más sobre Liturgia, sus ritmos, tiempos y cadencia. Más tarde, en el 2016 voy a trabajar con Lectores y nuestros ministros de hospitalidad. Tenemos que trabajar juntos y promover una participación activa y concience de nuestra comunidad, ya que esto se ha solicitado desde el Concilio Vaticano II. Hay mucho más por hacer.
