2 MENSAJE DEL PASTOR Page 2 No es verdad que el corazón nos ardía en el pecho cuando nos venía hablando por el camino y nos explicaba las Escrituras? Lc 24:32-33 Cuando una pareja se casa por la Iglesia, puede darse cuenta que lo que experimenta en sus corazones es una forma única en la que puede verse sumergida en una realidad en la cual todo lo demás se desvanece ante su alrededor. En el caso de los discípulos, todo el mundo alrededor de ellos se caía, se desvanecía y ya no estaban seguros en qué creer y en qué realidad vivían. Estaban muy inseguros, pero cuando Jesús resucitado hace presencia en medio de ellos, la verdadera manifestación de la realidad en Cristo es algo que ellos experimentan, y no son meramente alucinaciones, sino que es la gloria de Dios que resplandece ante ellos. Es ésta nueva forma de vida a la que Cristo llama a vivir a sus seguidores, que por ultimo nos llevará a dar testimonio del gran mandato y mensaje de Jesús: el de proclamar las buenas nuevas. En la realidad en que vivimos, nosotros ponemos muchos esfuerzos en las cosas del mundo porque necesitamos subsistir y vivir de acuerdo a las leyes y normas de la sociedad. Muchas veces podemos ser absorbidos por las diferentes ondas de la moda, lo popular, y lo que atrae a nuestros sentidos. Es por eso que necesitamos enfocarnos en las cosas de arriba para así tener prioridad en lo que Dios nos llama a vivir, en su paz y en su amor. Para los discípulos de Jesús no fue difícil seguir a Jesús una vez que Él se les reveló, y aún más así cuando se manifestó ante ellos de varias formas, como nos lo relata el Santo Evangelio. También, al igual que los discípulos, nosotros también nos podemos perder en nuestras propias ideas y conceptos de lo que Dios quiere para nosotros en la vida, ya que por equivocación o por mero capricho humano hacemos decisiones que nos afectan en una manera negativa y que no es muy favorable para los demás. Por ejemplo, cuando un hombre decide casarse con una mujer y en realidad no está muy convencido y aparte él mismo sabe muy bien en su corazón que en alguna instancia puede serle infiel porque tiende a ser mujeriego. En ésta forma el hombre le falla todavía en una forma más profunda a su esposa al no manifestarle su verdadera intención del corazón y solamente es evidente cuando fracasa ésa relación. Así mismo para los discípulos de Jesús, se tomó algo de discernimiento al establecer su relación como discípulos con Él aunque aun así lo abandonaron en el momento más crítico de su pasión, pero recapacitando, asistidos por la fuerza del Espíritu Santo, ellos siguen su misión para así dar y entregar la vida por la causa de Jesús. Para nosotros, como personas de verdadera fe, no debe ser difícil aceptar el llamado de Jesús y permanecer enfocados en ése llamado. Cristo resucitado nos ha ya entregado los frutos de su redención en su regalo del Espíritu Santo como dones para que tengamos la fuerza y tenacidad de mantenernos firmes en su amor. Es pues, de parte nuestra, que debemos de tener siempre la apertura de corazón, mente, y espíritu para recibir todos ésos frutos. Que Dios nos ayude a lograr ésta intención así como respondemos a su llamado, porque al recibir nuestro llamado a su palabra divina podemos sentirnos y decir como sus discípulos: No ardía nuestro corazón en nosotros, mientras nos hablaba en el camino, y cuando nos abría las Escrituras? 3 PASTOR S NOTES Page 3 Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us? Lk 24:32-33 When a couple gets married in a church, they realize that what they feel in their hearts is unique, in that they are submerged into another dimension in which all other things fade away. For the disciples, their whole world was falling apart, they were no longer sure in what to believe, and what was true. They were very doubtful, but when Jesus presence rose in their midst, they experienced the true manifestation in Christ. This wasn t merely a hallucination, but the glory of God that shined before them. This is the new way of life to which Christ calls his followers to live, that ultimately will take them to give testimony of the great mandate and message of Jesus: proclaim the good news. In the reality in which we live in, we tend to put a lot of effort in the material things of the world because we feel we need to live according to the laws and regulations of society. Many times we re consumed by the various fashion trends, popularity, and things that appeal to our senses. That is why we need to focus on how God calls us to live, with His peace and love. It was not difficult for the disciples to follow Jesus once He had revealed Himself to them, and even more so when He manifested Himself before them in many ways, as the Gospel tells. Like the disciples, we too can lose our own ideas and concepts of what God wants for us in life. We can sometimes make the wrong decisions that affect us in a negative way and are not very favorable for others. For example, when a man decides to get married but has doubts and knows in his heart that he will be unfaithful, it s because he tends to be a womanizer. This man fails as a husband in a more profound way because he doesn t express his true intention which will most likely damage the relationship. The same goes for the disciples of Jesus, it took some insight to establish their relationship with Him but even then, they abandoned Him in His most critical time. But by the force of the Holy Spirit, they continued their mission to provide and deliver life for the sake of Jesus. As people of faith, it should not be difficult for us to accept the call of Jesus and remain focused on that call. The Risen Christ has delivered the fruits of His redemption in the gift of the Holy Spirit so that we may have the strength and tenacity to stand firm in His love. It is on us to keep our spirits, hearts, and minds open to receive all those fruits. May God help us achieve this intention as we respond to His call, because to receive our call to His divine word we will be able to say as His disciples: Didn t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us? 5 Thank You!! On behalf of myself and the young women in the Missionary group, I want to thank everyone who donated so generously in order to make their stay here comfortable. Your donations enabled me to provide three meals a day for three and a half days. There was plenty of snacks and drinks for the girls as well as for the children who attended the Bible Camp on Holy Saturday. I also want to thank everyone who made them feel welcome while they were here. They were all very grateful for the hospitality shown here at St. Bart s. They had a very successful mission visiting and feeding the homeless, evangelizing and praying on the streets of Chicago and going door to door in our neighborhoods, inviting people to come to our Easter services. They are looking forward to coming back next year. We did have some money left over. This has been donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Thank you again. 8 CATHOLIC EDUCATION Page 8 Thank You - Job Well Done!! Congratulations to Mr. Mayer s 7 th grade class for their beautiful and prayerful presentation of the last days in the life of Jesus Christ. The class presented their story on Holy Thursday, April 17 th at 10:00am. Each and every member of the class participated in the play and several students had multiple parts. The student effort focused on the celebration of the Eucharist, the Washing of the Feet, followed by the trial before Pontius Pilate and then the execution of our Lord. Many family members were able to join us for the event and all agreed it was very moving! Children s Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word will not meet on Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day) or May 18th. We will meet one more time at the11:30 Mass on Sunday, May 25th before breaking for the summer. Help St. Bartholomew School by collecting and saving General Mills Box Tops. Boxtops for Education are found on many products. Clip your Campbell Soup Label UPC s (or provide entire label). Both Box Tops and Campbell Soup Labels can be dropped off at the school office or the Rectory.
