4 BELIEFS The belief that every student has the capacity to learn and to achieve his/her full potential is the foundation on which our efforts rest. We hold high expectations and provide supports to ensure academic success for ALL students in Valley View School District, regardless of race, gender, income, geography, disability, or native language. RIGOR With the belief that every student has the capacity to learn and to achieve his/her full potential, students will be challenged individually through the use of rigorous, research-based curricula and differentiated instruction. Academic rigor calls for more demanding content that pushes students to higher levels of thinking and application to prepare them for post-secondary life. While we acknowledge that students have unique capabilities and learn at different rates, all students are expected to perform at a proficient level or above. Vision Valley View sets an environment where students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, and the larger Valley View School District community, hold high expectations for all learning. This is accomplished through strengthening the rigor of academic offerings and supporting effective instructional and assessment practices, to meet the needs of all students. Our students must be challenged to meet their full potential, and the learning community provides the support, resources, and commitment to do so. Our students will respond to higher expectations if our entire community BELIEVES that ALL students are capable of meeting high standards, and accepts nothing less from our students, parents, teachers, administrators and the community at large. Mission Our mission is to ensure that ALL students are prepared for college, and a successful life, academically, socially, and emotionally, as well as equipped with the necessary tools to have options and make decisions about their long-term goals. This will be accomplished by believing and working towards ALL students learning through rigorous curricula and meaningful, effective instruction; consequently demonstrating mastery on high-quality assessments, with all stakeholders being held accountable throughout the process. INSTRUCTION With the belief that every student has the capacity to learn and to achieve his/her full potential, students will consistently be provided with high-quality, researched-based, instruction that is tailored to each student s specific learning styles as well as academic, literacy and skills development needs, but without negotiating the rigor of the curricula or learning outcomes. ASSESSMENT With the belief that every student has the capacity to learn and to achieve his/her full potential, we will implement a balanced and holistic assessment system that ensures we provide targeted instruction and interventions that deliver accurate information throughout the learning process to ensure proficiency is met. ACCOUNTABILITY With the belief that every student has the capacity to learn and to achieve his/her full potential, the shared expectation of accountability to ensure this goal is met includes all stakeholders, to include: community, Board of Education, administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students. However, in the absence of accountability from external stakeholders, the school system will ultimately hold itself accountable for student outcomes. BACK TO SCHOOL BOOK REV 5/13/2015 4

13 2015 Multi-Student Family Credit on Registration Fees Beginning in the school year, a family credit will be automatically applied to registration fees owed for families that have 3 or more students actively enrolled in Valley View Public Schools. The credit will be automatically applied when the registration fees are assessed, immediately reducing the fees owed for each student. There would be no additional paperwork required to be filled out by the parent or guardian. The credit would be applied as follows: Grade Level Elementary students in grades PreK to 5th Middle School students in grades 6th to 8th High School students in grades 9th to 12th Family Cap Registration Credit $10 per student registration fee credit $15 per student registration fee credit $20 per student registration fee credit Frequently Asked Questions Why is the district offering the multi-student credit? The Board of Education has approved a fee credit in order to help defray the cost of school fees for families in the community with three or more actively enrolled students. Which families are eligible for the multi-student credit? Families where the primary guardian has 3 or more students actively enrolled in Valley View schools (where all students associated with that guardian name share one residential address) will get the credit applied to each active student s registration fee. Do I need to apply for the credit in order to receive it for all my students? No. Each family will be evaluated to determine if there are three or more actively enrolled students linked to that guardian. What if my family structure has changed during the school year? Are my students eligible for the credit? Yes. If the structure of the family changes over the course of the year, the credit will be applied to all active students in the family once the Enrollment office has completed the registration process and the new student in the family has begun attending a Valley View assigned attendance center. No forms are required to receive the credit in this situation. The credit does not qualify for a fee refund. My family registered three or more students in the district AFTER school has started. Will my student receive the full credit amount? Yes. The full credit is applied at any point of the school year. Will I be able to see the amount that is applied to my student s fee account so I can verify I received it? Yes. When reviewing student fee accounts on fee letters mailed home or on the on-line fee payment system, students who have had the multi-student credit applied will see an * asterisk next to the current year Registration Fee to indicate that that fee had a credit payment applied. What if families have dual guardianship situations for actively enrolled students? In this situation, the guardianship documentation will need to be reviewed and evaluated to determine if it meets the credit criteria. BACK TO SCHOOL BOOK REV 5/13/
