2 PASTORS CORNER Next Sunday, Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion, begins the heart of the Church Year. The word holy in the title Holy Week highlights this week as a unique and most holy in the annual cycle of time for Christians. The rituals that we observe make present the passing of Jesus from life to death to new life and all of creation along with him 1. If Jesus had not risen from the dead, he would have been simply remembered as a godly man who performed some miracles. The resurrection of Jesus Christ confirms that everything he said and did was part of God s plan for salvation. It also proved that he was the Son of God. It might seem simplistic to us but to the early Christians this understanding of the nature of Jesus was absolutely vital to their faith. It s not hard to understand why the celebration of Easter is the greatest event of the Church year. Let s take time to reflect on the saving events that begin with Passion Sunday and end with the Resurrection of the Lord. Faithfully, Fr. YLI & YMI Palm Sunday Breakfast Please join the YLI & YMI for their Palm Sunday Breakfast on April 13 in the Cafeteria from 8 am-10:30 am. Breakfast will consist of French toast, scrambled eggs, pork sausage, hash browns, ham, muffin, orange juice, milk and coffee. Adult tickets are $7.00 and children ages four and over are $4.00. 3 SU PALABRA EN ESPAÑOL El próximo Domingo, es Domingo de Ramos De la Pasión del Señor y comienza el corazón del año de la Iglesia. La palabra santa en Semana Santa destaca esta semana como único y mas santo en el ciclo anual de la época para los Cristianos. Los Rituales que se observan hacen presente el paso de Jesús de la vida a la muerte a la nueva vida y a toda la creación, junto con el 1. Si Jesús no hubiera resucitado de entre los muertos, habría sido simplemente recordado como un hombre piadoso que realizo algunos milagros. La resurrección de Jesucristo confirma que todo lo que decía y hacia era parte del plan de Dios para la salvación. Era prueba de que el era el hijo de Dios. Puede parecer simplista a nosotros sino a los primeros Cristianos esta comprensión de la naturaleza de Jesús era absolutamente vital para su fe. No es difícil entender por que la celebración de la Pascua es el evento mas grande del año de la Iglesia. Vamos a tomar el tiempo para reflexionar sobre los acontecimientos salvíficos que comienzan con Domingo de Pasión y termina con la Resurrección del Señor. A sign-up sheet is available in the Chapel if you wish to do individual prayers, fasting, Rosary, Adoration, or spend an hour in front of an abortion clinic in Modesto praying for the end of abortion. We pray the mothers will change their minds and choose life for their unborn babies. ICF All You Can Eat Shrimp Dinner The Italian Catholic Federation is hosting their 8th annual All You Can Eat Shrimp Dinner on Saturday, April 26th in the gym. No-host cocktails begin at 6 pm with dinner at 7 pm. Dinner will consist of all you can eat shrimp, pasta with pesto, salad, bread & butter, dessert and wine for $35 ($17.50 for children 12 and younger). Central Catholic Open House Central Catholic High School in Modesto will be hosting an Academic, Athletic and Arts Open House on April 9th. The evening begins with a free family BBQ at 5:30 pm. Students will be given the chance to meet with teachers and couches and learn about the sports programs, clubs and art program. This evening is guaranteed to be fun and family friendly. Please not e that the registration deadline for all students for the school year has been extended to April 17. For more information contact Jodi Tybor at Casino Fundraiser The Hispanic Community is organizing a trip to Reno on Saturday, April 26. The bus will be leaving at 7am and will return about 8:30 pm. For more information please call Mary at or Andrea at Bishop s Ministry Appeal We are almost at the top of the mountain of our Bishop's Ministry Appeal. We are presently at 93% of our goal of $135,000. This is very good but only about 12.4% of the parish has given to date. We need to see our parish participation rise significantly during the month of April. Please consider what your pledge or one-time gift will be this year. Some have been able to give above the recommended amount of $320 over 8 months ($40 per month) and some have given a lesser amount. Every gift is important for reaching our parish goal. Please remember that every dollar raised over the $135,000 goal is returned to St. Anthony's to do important projects in our Church and Adoration Chapel. This year, we will put new cushions on all kneelers, clean and repair new pew cushions as well as put a beautiful gold/silver cover on the Spanish book of the Gospels. As we draw closer to Easter, the Sunday readings become more and more explicit about this. In a rather dry, matter-of-fact way, today s reading from St. Paul s Letter to the Romans teaches that our mortal bodies will be raised to life. But in a far more gripping way, the Lord shouts at us through the prophet Ezekiel, O my people, I will open your graves... I will put my spirit in you... I have promised, and I will do it. When Jesus saw the people weeping over the death of Lazarus, he was troubled in spirit and moved by the deepest emotions. Approaching the tomb, Jesus himself began to weep. He loved Lazarus. In fact, Jesus loved Lazarus so much that he snatched him out of his tomb, back to life. That s how God loves us.
