1 CISD Career and Technical Education / Lone Star College Have you ever thought about what happens after high school? Not sure what your plans are? Have you thought about working in the Healthcare, Machining, or Welding career fields? If you are ready to use your Math, Science, and Computer skills in a college environment, the workforce certificate program may be for you. That s right; you could earn a college workforce certificate while attending high school. For more information about the CTE/Lone Star College Workforce Program, ask your CTE teacher or guidance counselor for a Statement of Interest form. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining Students will enter a college level course where they will be introduced to the skills needed to program CNC machines. Students will learn the importance of lathe and mill programming techniques and structures, CNC controller types and overall machine operation. Health Occupations Certified Nurses Aide / Phlebotomy* Students will enter a college level course where they will learn the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to provide basic care to patients. Students will learn the skills needed to perform a variety of blood collection methods. *The Lone Star College Health Occupations course requires a background check which includes the need for each student to have a valid social security card and picture identification card at the time of registration. Welding Dual Credit Students will enter a college level course where they will gain the classroom and lab skills needed to develop their welding techniques, applications, and theory. Students will have the opportunity to work in the welding booth to perfect their welding skills. 2 What to expect from the Architectural Design Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Architectural Design Program? Do you like to draw buildings like homes, businesses, or manufacturing plants? Do you want to become an Architect, Construction Manager, Drafter, Interior Designer, or Landscape Architect? If you answered yes, then you are ready to take the first steps towards the drafting or Architectural Design field. The Architectural Design I program is 1 credit and it offers many different teaching methods. It will feature classroom teaching, online assignments and lot of hands-on drawing on paper and in computer systems. You will gain the industry standard skills in design history and techniques, lettering, and the tools needed to create production drawings, renderings, and scaled models of commercial or residential buildings. This course begins by using traditional drafting tools and then you will learn the Auto CAD (computer aided design) software of Revit and Chief Architect. It will allow you to reinforce, apply, and transfer your academic knowledge and skills to interesting and relevant activities and/or problems. The class is the High School equivalent of Introduction to CAD, Engineering Graphics, and Home Planning that is taught at the post secondary levels. In the Architectural Design II program is 2 credits. You will use the skills learned in level I as you learn how to master computer aided design software with the end goal of earning an entry level certification. You will apply what you have learned to develop prototypes to solve a given problem. This class is the High School equivalent of Advanced CAD Productivity, Civil Drafting, and Construction Drafting that is taught at the post secondary levels. 3 What to expect from the Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing Program? Do you like to restore cars and trucks? Are you ready to take the first steps to becoming an auto collision repair technician? The Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing I program will offer different teaching methods. It will feature classroom teaching, online assignments and the opportunity to work in a hands-on lab. Did you know you will use your Math and Science skills to solve problems in the classroom and lab? You will be taught how to apply your skills and experience while learning auto metal repair and reconditioning, auto rebuilding and refinishing, how to prepare cost estimates for auto body repairs and develop proper techniques for the applications of oxyfuel welding, cutting, razing, soldering, and electric welding processes. In the Advanced Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing program, you will have classroom teaching, online assignments and work in a pre-employment lab where you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems, and settings. This course continues to teach the industry standard techniques used in auto metal repair and reconditioning, auto rebuilding and refinishing, oxyfuel welding, cutting, razing, soldering, and electric welding processes in a hands-on lab setting. 4 What to expect from the Auto Technician Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Auto Technician Program? Do you like to work on cars and trucks? Are you ready to take the first steps to becoming an auto technician? The Auto Technician I program will offer different teaching methods. It will feature classroom teaching, online assignments and the opportunity to work in a hands-on lab. Did you know you will use your Math and Science skills to solve problems in the classroom and lab? You will be taught how to apply your skills and experience when identifying mechanical problems, configuring measurements, etc. As you begin the Auto Technician I program, you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of activities including learning the theory of operation of automotive vehicle systems and associated repair practices. In the Auto Technician II program, you will have classroom teaching, online assignments and work in a pre-employment lab where you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems, and settings. This course teaches the theory of operation or automotive vehicle systems and associated repair practices in a pre-employment laboratory setting. The Auto Technician II meets three hours a day (1:00 4:00 pm). Students taking this course will have an extended day for the duration of the program. 5 What to expect from the Business Management Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Business Management Program? Do you have an interest in word-processing, spreadsheets, database and electronic presentation software? Are you ready to take the first steps to developing personal and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the workplace or post secondary education? There are a wide range of careers available in the business world. You may be interested in working for a company in the business field or you may want to be an entrepreneur and be your own boss. In Business Information Management I and Business Information Management II, you will learn to apply technical skills through word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and electronic presentation software. The business courses you take in high school will build the foundation needed to be successful in college or in the workforce. 7 What to expect from the Career Preparation Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Career Preparation* Program? Do you already have a job? Are you ready to make the transition from school to employment? Career Preparation I and Career Preparation II will offer you the opportunity to learn marketable skills, earn money, and acquire skills and experience related to your college and career objectives. In the Career Preparation program, you will meet one period each day and focus on the application of academic and job-related learning. You will be released early so you may go to work each day and you will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the job. You will be expected to work an average of 15 hours per week at an approved training station (job) throughout the school year in order to receive Career Preparation credits. This includes working on holidays, if required by the employer. As a Career Preparation student, you must secure an approved training station (job) by the 15th day of school or you will be removed from the program. Each training station must be a qualified job approved by the Career Preparation teacher/coordinator. There is no guarantee a training station will be available. Your placement in a training station (job) and wages earned will depend upon the outcome of an interview with a prospective employer. If in the Career Preparation program, you will receive three (3) credits per year for the successful completion of the total program (classroom and on-the-job training). Prior to the start of the school year, the Career Preparation coordinator will meet with you to gather employment information and review the course guidelines and expectations. To participate in the Career Preparation program, both you and a parent/guardian must sign a contract agreeing to the terms of the program. Career Preparation I is offered to grades The classes are currently offered at Conroe HS, Oak Ridge HS, and Caney Creek HS. If you are ready to develop your employability, leadership, and management skills while earning an income, please complete a Career and Technical Education Course Interest Request form and return it to your counselor. *In this class, your goal is to gain employment with a private business. You must be a minimum age of 16 and hold valid work documentation, such as a Social Security card, to enroll in any of the career preparation learning experiences that have a paid component. 8 What to expect from the Child Guidance Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Child Guidance Program? Do you like to work with preschoolers? Are you ready to take the first steps to becoming a child care provider? The Child Guidance program will offer different teaching methods. You will experience classroom teaching, online assignments as well as the opportunity to work in a hands-on pre-employment child care lab setting. Did you know you will use your Math and Science skills to solve problems in the classroom and lab? You will be taught how to apply your skills and experience to the care, guidance and education of preschool children. In the pre-employment child care lab, you will have the opportunity to implement the preschooler s lesson plans, plan nutritious meals, follow safety procedures, determine guidance techniques and create educationally-sound activities. In addition, you will explore the various careers related to Early Childhood education. Completion of this program will prepare you for higher education courses and/or entry-level employment as a child care provider. The Child Guidance programs are offered at all high schools. 9 What to expect from the Construction Trades Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Construction Trades Program? Do you enjoy helping to repair or build things around your house? Are you ready to take the first steps to having a career in the Construction Trades industry? Construction Trades I program will offer different teaching methods. You will learn about various careers in the construction industry through classroom teaching, online assignments and the opportunity to work in a handson lab. Did you know you will use your Math and Science skills to solve problems in the classroom and lab? You will be taught how to apply your skills and experience when learning to read a blueprint, measuring, etc. As you begin the Construction Trades I program, you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of activities including learning safety, how to properly use hand tools and power tools, framing, and learning roofing. In the Construction Trades II program, you will have classroom teaching, online assignments and work in a handon lab where you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems, and settings. As an advanced student, you will be expected to demonstrate safety practices, craftsmanship, and leadership to first year students. The Construction Trades I and Construction Trades II Programs are offered at Conroe High School and Oak Ridge High School. 10 What to expect from the Cosmetology Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Cosmetology Program? Do you like to create hair designs, give facials or manicures? Are you ready to take the first steps to becoming a cosmetology technician? The Cosmetology I program will offer different teaching methods. You will experience classroom teaching, online assignments as well as the opportunity to work on outside clients in a hands-on laboratory setting. Did you know you will use your Math and Science skills to solve problems in the classroom and lab? You will be taught how to apply your skills and experience while learning the basic specific training needed to achieve a Texas Cosmetology License. Students will be expected to purchase their beginners training kit during the first week of school. Students will be required to complete 500 clocked hours before advancing to Cosmetology II. In the Cosmetology II program, you will have classroom teaching, online assignments and work on outside clients in a preemployment lab where you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems, and settings. This course continues to teach the industry standard techniques used in today s salons. Students will continue to build their clocked hours, working towards the 1500 needed to complete the Cosmetologist Exam from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The Cosmetology I and Cosmetology II programs are offered to all 11 th and 12 th grade students. The classes are currently taught at Conroe High School and Oak Ridge High School. 11 What to expect from the Culinary Arts Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Culinary Arts Program? Do you have an interest in management and food preparation? Are you ready to take the first steps to becoming a business owner or chef? An innovative program in Conroe ISD has students saying Bon Appetite! while they learn all aspects of the food service industry. In the Culinary Arts program, you will develop skills in preparing sauces, soups/stocks, sautéing and frying, garnishing, grilling, pastries and desserts, and breads. You will also learn about equipment and technology, culinary nutrition, creating menus, recipe conversion, cost control techniques, and plating and presentation of food. Professional skills related to employability, customer service, and the dining experience will be reinforced and practiced. In addition, you will be given an opportunity to pursue a national sanitation certification and other appropriate industry certifications. The Culinary Arts Program is offered to all 11 th and 12 th grade students. The classes are currently taught at all High Schools and Culinary Arts II is taught at Conroe High School. 12 What to expect from the Engineering Design & Presentation Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Engineering Design & Presentation Program? Do you like to draw things like blueprints and designs for future systems and inventions, such as cars or cell phones? If you answered yes, then you are ready to take the first steps towards the drafting or Engineering Design field. The Engineering Design & Presentation I program is 1 credit and it offers many different teaching methods. It will feature classroom teaching, online assignments and lot of hands-on drawing on paper and in computer systems. You will gain the industry standard skills in lettering, geometric construction, multiview drawings, sectional, pictorial, precise measurement using drafting scales, detail assembly drawings, and more. In the beginning, you will learn to draw by hand using traditional drafting tools and then you will learn Auto CAD (computer aided design) software. The final step is to learn 3D Parametric Modeling using Inventor. You will reinforce, apply, and transfer your academic knowledge and skills to interesting and relevant activities and/or problems given. This class is the High School equivalent of Introduction to CAD and Engineering Graphics that is taught at the post secondary levels. The Engineering Design & Presentation II program is 2 credits. 13 School Year What to expect from the Health Science Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Health Science Program? Have you thought about a career as a healthcare provider? Are you ready to take the first steps to a career in the Healthcare industry? The Health Sciences program consists of a variety of courses. You will begin by learning therapeutic, diagnostic, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems of the heath care industry. You will use your Math and Science skills as you develop advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. The Health Sciences courses may be taught using many methods, including clinical rotation and career preparation learning. The Practicum in Health Science and Practicum in Health Science II programs are designed to give you practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience. The Health Sciences, Practicum in Health Science, and Practicum in Health Sciences II Programs are offered at Conroe High School, Oak Ridge High School, The Woodlands College Park High School, and The Woodlands High School. 14 What to expect from the Information Technology Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Information Technology Program? Do you have an interest in electrical and electronic theory? Are you ready to take the first steps to becoming a computer technician or network administrator? In the Conroe ISD Information Technology program, you will learn the basics of building, maintaining, repairing, supporting and upgrading computer desktops, laptops and networks. Through hands-on exercises, you will work on PCs and local area networks in a lab setting and gain the knowledge to install, configure and optimize personal computer hardware and operating systems. Courses include Principals of Information Technology, Computer Maintenance, Digital and Interactive Media, Web Technologies, and Internetworking I and II. 15 What to expect from the Law Enforcement Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Law Enforcement Program? Have you ever thought about working as a 911 Operator? Are you ready to take the first steps achieving a career in the law enforcement field? The Law Enforcement I program will offer different teaching methods. You will experience classroom teaching, online assignments, and work in a hands-on lab setting. Did you know you will use your Math and Science skills to solve problems in the classroom and lab? You will be taught how to apply your skills and experience while learning the history, organization, and functions of local, state, and federal law enforcement. In addition, you will learn the role of the constitution, the United States legal system, criminal law, law enforcement terminology, and the classification and elements of crime. In the Law Enforcement II program, you will have classroom teaching, online assignments and work in a handson lab where you will apply and transfer academic knowledge and skills to prepare for a career in law enforcement. You will review and discuss ethical and legal responsibilities, operation of police and emergency telecommunications equipment, and courtroom testimony. Students integrate skills from academic subjects, information technology, interpersonal communication, and management training to make responsible decisions. 2 credit courses require one period of classroom instruction, and one period work release. Students must average 10 hours of work a week. 3 credits courses require one period of classroom instruction, and two periods work release. 17 What to expect from the Practicum in Education and Training Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Practicum in Education and Training Program? Are you interested in working with preschoolers? Are you ready to take the first steps to a career in an early childhood setting? The Instructional Practices in Education and Training provides occupationally specific training and focuses on the development of careers in early childhood. The program expands on the skills and knowledge gained your Math and Science classes, as well as in the Child Guidance program, to show you a managerial view of a career in the child care profession. Instruction will be in a pre-employment child care lab setting where you will learn business tools and work as a team to provide a professional environment for the preschoolers. You will build a professional portfolio that will be very beneficial as you seek higher education and/or employment in an Early Childhood setting. 19 What to expect from the Welding Manufacturing Program: So you are interested in being in the Conroe ISD Welding Program? Do you like to work with your hands? If fire and heat do not bother you and if you do not mind getting dirty as you work and create things, a career in Welding Manufacturing may for you. The Welding class is 1 credit and it offers many different teaching methods. You will experience classroom teaching, online assignments and a lot of hands-on work in the lab. This course is an introduction to the basic industry standard welding processes. Before working in the hands-on lab, you will be in the classroom where you will learn welding theories and applications. Once you have mastered the academic side, then you will complete activities to develop skills in the following areas: arc welding, gas welding and cutting, brazing, soldering, and mig welding. SAFETY is our #1 concern and you will be required to wear the proper clothing when working in the metals lab. You will perform actual welds and apply the skills by building projects. The Advanced Welding class is 2 credits. You will continue to build on the industry standard knowledge and skills developed in the Welding class. In this course you will integrate academic and technical knowledge and skills as you continue to master welding methods. Welding is offered to grades and Advanced Welding is offered to grades The classes are currently available at Conroe HS, Oak Ridge HS and The Woodlands HS.
