Who will go for us? Here I am, I said, send me! Isaiah 6:8 GOD S SUMMONS Confronted with God s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man. Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? Isaiah answered, Here I am, send me. We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? What will it take for you to bring to dock what is unimportant and to accept your call to be God s messenger? Be diligent in serving the poor. Love the poor, honor them as you would Christ himself. TOGETHER IN MISSION As each parish household prayerfully reflects on the amount of the pledge to be made to help these parishes and schools, please reflect on the following questions. Do I really believe that I have a duty to help others in need? Is what I give to the work of the Church enough to show how grateful I am for what God has given me? Do I appreciate how important every contribution to Together in Mission is to the people in the subsidized parishes and schools? Children are influenced so easily especially by friends and adults they look up too. Always keep ears and eyes open to what s going on with your child. Our children are precious. VIRTUS MARCH 7, 2013 AT OLL Anyone working with children as part of the school or ministry, or organization should take a VIRTUS class to be able to work with children. For those of you who have not taken a Virtus class before, we are having a class here on March 7 from 7 to 10pm in the Blue Room. The doors close at 7pm so please be on time. Please call the Parish office at to leave your name that you will be coming. This class is open to EVERYONE. Even if you do not work directly with children it is good to take this class. ANNUAL LENTEN SOUP SUPPER Please bring your entire family and join us in the Auditorium on Ash Wednesday, February 13 for a delicious bowl or two of a variety of homemade soups. Because we are asked to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all soups will be vegetable based-but delicious nonetheless. (Some past soups have included potato, clam chowder, lentil, broccoli, cheese, and a variety of vegetable soups. Our Confirmation Candidates will be serving soup and crackers FREE OF CHARGE-while it lasts-from 4:00pm to 7:00pm (Ash Wednesday). Please call or Susan Valdez by February 10 if you are one of our loyal parishioners who donate soup each year-so that she can plan accordingly. Please bring soup in a crock pot this year. Thank you CONFIRMATION NEWS TEEN RETREAT PLANNED Teens of the Parish are invited to attend a one-day retreat planned for Sunday, March 24, The retreat will be held in the Parish Hall from 11am to 5pm. This retreat will be facilitated by a group called Net Ministries. Net Ministries serves youth through a variety of retreat experiences, dramatic skits, and lively songs, making every retreat a unique experience. NET Ministries visited our parish last year for our Two Year Confirmation Retreat and they were a huge success. We have invited them back this year and have decided to open up registration to all teens of the parish that may not have had the opportunity to attend a retreat in the past. Please visit their website and discuss as a family whether or not this is something your teen would be interested in attending. YEAR TWO CONFIRMATION RETREAT MARCH 24, :00 am 5:00pm All Year Two Confirmation Candidates are reminded that their Confirmation Retreat will be held on March 24, As one of the requirements for Confirmation, all candidates must attend a Confirmation Retreat. This date has been given to you in the past and we would like to remind you once again, that if you are unable to attend this retreat you MUST attend a Confirmation retreat at a neighboring parish. A high retreat is not a substitute. It is your responsibility to contact a neighboring parish and make arrangements with their Confirmation Coordinator to attend their retreat. Para celebrar, la misa de la mañana será a las 8:30 a.m. con la escuela y la misa de la tarde será a las 7:00 p.m. Esta misa se ha convertido en una tradición que hemos adoptado con una procesión y el rezo del rosario a la luz de candelas. 8 Page Eight Our Lady of Lourdes February 10, 2013 Retiro para los Adolescentes de OLL Invitamos a todos los adolescentes de la parroquia a un retiro por un día que ha sido programado para el domingo, 24 de Marzo, El retiro tendrá lugar en el Salón Parroquial de 11:00 a.m. a 5:00 p.m. Será dirigido e impartido por un grupo llamado Net Ministries. El grupo de NET Ministries sirve a la juventud por medio de retiros que incluyen una variedad de eventos, dramáticas escenas teatrales, música en vivo, lo que hace de estos retiros una experiencia única. NET Ministries visitó nuestra parroquia el año pasado para dirigir el retiro de los candidatos de confirmación del año 2 y fue todo un éxito. Les hemos invitado de nuevo este año, y hemos decidido abrir la inscripción para todos los adolescentes de la parroquia, que no han tenido la oportunidad de asistir a un retiro anteriormente. En una de esas visitas mi abuelo y mis tíos estaban quemando la tierra en su rancho. Mientras el fuego ardía, papa Manuel nos explicaba que era necesario reducir todo en cenizas para que la tierra recobrara sus fuerzas y quedará más fértil. Sin saberlo, mi abuelo me dio la imagen que hasta hoy sostiene mi concepto del Miércoles de Cenizas y de la cuaresma. El Miércoles de Cenizas es la fiesta cristiana que por lo menos doce siglos ha señalado el comienzo de la Cuaresma. No cabe duda que para los Latinos este día es de particular atracción. Es uno de los pocos días del año litúrgico en cual llegamos al templo en masa por tal de recibir las cenizas en la frente. Nosotros somos un pueblo enraizado en la tierra y sabemos que la tierra necesita quemarse de vez en cuando para seguir produciendo. Nosotros como la tierra necesitamos dominarnos y cultivarnos para producir frutos y flores para el Señor y los demás. Noche de Casino La escuela de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes cordialmente les invita a su noche de casino.
