4 PAYMENT PROCESS The 6-day Great Debate rate is $620, which includes a $20 application processing fee. This amount covers meals, housing, materials, and the tuition. Once the student receives notice of admission via , s/he has 10 days to make a $100 security deposit. The final tuition of $500 is due within 30 days of receiving the deposit. Accepted applicants who cannot meet the payment deadlines should immediately contact us. SCHOOL FUNDING SUPPORT Parents may inquire with NHI headquarters for more information. 5 NHI LEARNING PLATFORMS Each program of NHI, beginning with the Great Debate for ninth grade youth, the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session for sophomores, and the Collegiate World Series for juniors, has been carefully designed to provide students with particular skill development and capacity building. Programs for college students and alumni can be found online at Nearly 100,000 students have attended NHI programs, beginning with the first 90 in 1981 and now 3,000 who come from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, with several Latin American/Caribbean countries that today include Mexico, Panama, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. NHI is privileged to play a role in educating an alumni base that produces a 98% college enrollment rate (90% in four-year institutions), a 90% college completion rate in less than five years, and a 67% rate of enrollment in advanced degrees. Thousands of volunteers and professionals have developed the Institute, beginning with the leadership of Ernesto Nieto's wife, Gloria de León, popularly known around NHI circles as the chief architect of the LDZ. Others have also played vital roles that include a highly active board of trustees comprised mainly of former participants. Over 1,000 alumni also volunteer their time to administer the organization's 15 national/international summer and fall projects, not to mention the services and leadership of NHI alumni known as local Project Administrators, some of which have participated for over 18 years. Finally, we can never say enough about our College Register consortium ( of fouryear colleges and universities and in particular, our annual college campus hosts. These institutions include the University of Rochester, Colorado State University, Our Lady of the Lake University, Cabrini College, the University of North Texas, the City of Knowledge, Elmhurst College, Augustana College, Villanova University, the University of Texas, Austin College, the University of San Diego, and the University of Tampa. Without the contributions and support of these institutions of higher learning and volunteers, leadership programs like those conducted by NHI would not be possible. 6 La experiencia de avanzar las destrezas de lenguaje de un estudiante forma gran parte de su éxito académico, social y profesional. Después de esta experiencia los estudiantes se sienten más cómodos en ambientes sumamente competitivos, sus expectativas aumentan, expanden su conocimiento del mundo que los rodea, y adquieren una nueva apreciación por la comunidad latina. Proveemos a jóvenes inteligentes e innovadores con una plataforma comunitaria para concebir el futuro y empezar a verse a sí mismos como futuros líderes de la comunidad latina. Los alumnos de NHI acuden a la universidad a una tasa de 98% y muchos se destinan a las mejores universidades de los Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica. QUÉ TE OFRECE EL INSTITUTO NACIONAL HISPANO? El Gran Debate aumenta la efectividad en comunicación de los participantes mediante la formación de equipos, el hablar en público, el escribir y presentar ideas en competencias.
