2 Pastor s Corner Reflexiones de tu Pastor In his letter to the Ephesians, Saint Paul reminds his audience that God s power is manifested in the way members of a community care of and sustain one another. In the unity of their faith, their baptism and the Lord, we see the strength of the Church, which takes in all those who seek God and want to quench their hunger and thirst. We can imagine that the opposite can also be true: a divided community separates all who seek the presence of God in their lives. The abundance of God s physical and spiritual nourishment, as described in todays readings is made evident when faith prevails over doubt. Our lack of financial resources in our churches requires that we pray deeply, not just so God can help us solve our immediate needs, but also so he can touch the hearts of all members of the community and invite them to become stewards in the parish. God will grant us what we ask for if we make prayer a priority in our daily lives. Parish groups should reflect on this theme during the liturgical year, especially when it comes up in the word shared during the liturgy, as is the case with today s story of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. En la carta a los Efesios, san Pablo le recuerda a sus lectores que el poder de Dios se manifiesta en el cuidado y el apoyo que se tienen los miembros de la comunidad. En la unidad de la fe, del bautismo y del Señor se pone en evidencia la Fortaleza de la Iglesia que acoge a todos los que buscan a Dios y quieren saciar su hambre y su sed. Nos podemos imaginar que lo opuesto también sea cierto: la división de cualquier comunidad aleja a todos los que buscan la presencia de Dios en sus vidas. La abundancia física o spiritual de Dios, según Narran las lecturas de hoy, se hace evidente cuando la fe prevalece sobre la duda. Nuestra falta de recursos económicos en nuestras iglesias exige que oremos profundamente no solo para que Dios nos ayude a resolver problemas inmediatos sino para que Dios le toque el corazón a los miembros de la comunidad y los invite a ser colaboradores o mayordomos de la parroquia. Dios concede lo que pedimos si hacemos de la oración una prioridad en una jornada diaria. Nuestros grupos parroquiales han de reflexionar sobre este tema durante el año litúrgico, especialmente cuando el tema surja de la palabra compartida en la liturgia, como hoy con la multiplicación de los panes y los peces. 3 PARISH NEWS The second collection TODAY provides funds to reduce your parish debt. Please give generously. Please support our fundraising efforts by joining us for coffee & donuts served by the members of our various groups in the Parish hall after the Masses on Sundays. Fr. Antonio Altarejos and Fr. Marcos Argelys will be visiting our parish for the month of August. This enables us to offer our Spanish Mass Monday through Friday beginning August 3rd. Intentions are available for these Masses. The Gospel according to St. John, the community of the Beloved Disciple: Monday through Thursday, July 27th to 30th, 7:30pm to 9:30pm in the. BIBLES REQUIRED!! Register to participate in these four days of growth in the knowledge of the theology of Saint John, the Apostle. Professors are Rev. John O Grady and Mr. Rogelio Zelada. On Saturday, August 1st, at 9am in the school library the first meeting of our new Spanish Legion of Mary, Santa Maria Estrella del Mar will take place, this replaces our group that met on Mondays. Baptism Classes: In Spanish, on Sunday, August 2nd, at 11:00am in the chapel. In, on Sunday, August 9th, at 9:30am in the chapel. In order to prepare for the upcoming sessions, a meeting has been set for Wednesday, August 5th, in the, at 7:00pm. We invite anyone interested in assisting as a Team Leader. As a leader, you will be prepared to lead one of the small communities in Faith Sharing. Please notify Adam Irizarry, at the Rectory, to register for this meeting. On the weekend of August 9th, the Annual Seminary Burse Collection will take place in our parish. This fund provides for the formation of those whom God is calling to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. This year St. John Vianney Seminary will have more than 80 seminarians discerning God s call and preparing to serve the Church. Our Religious Education Office will re-open on August 15th. Catechists are needed please call Adam in the parish office. Please note: a Baptismal Certificate is required in order to register your child for our classes, no exceptions. Also, any fees outstanding from the previous year must be paid up at the time of registration. We will be hosting a Virtus Workshop for volunteers in the on Wednesday, September 2nd in and Wednesday, September 9th in Spanish. Please call the parish office for registration information. 4 XVII DOMINGO ORDINARIO NOTICIAS DE LA PARROQUIA Como siempre, les recordamos que la segunda colecta de hoy esta destinada para reducir la deuda de la parroquia y les pedimos que sean generosos en esta segunda colecta. Apoye los esfuerzos de recaudación de fondos de los diferentes grupos. Únase en las mañanas del domingo y disfrute café y donuts, servido por nuestros grupos parroquiales en el salón de la Iglesia, después de cada misa. Inscríbete para participar en el curso sobre la teología del apóstol San Juan, El Evangelio según San Juan, la comunidad del Discípulo Amado que se llevara a cabo desde el 27 al 30 de julio en el Salón Parroquial.!Es necesario traer su Biblia! Este año el Seminario John Vianney tiene mas de 80 seminaristas en proceso de discernimiento a su llamado, y preparándose para servir a su Iglesia. Nuestro oficina de educación religiosa se volverá a reabrir en el 15 de agosto, pronto daremos a conocer la información necesaria para las inscripciones. 7 GENERAL INFORMATION SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Ceremonies are performed in and Spanish. Please call the Parish Office for requirements and registration. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE We follow the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Miami. Please call the Parish Office at least six months in advance. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION The necessary requirements to receive a Letter of Recommendation is to be a registered and practicing member of our parish. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES Classes are available for children from first grade through high school age, and for Adults in and Spanish, from September through May. Sunday 11:20am & Monday, 3:15pm. CARE OF THE SICK Please call the Parish Office to request sick calls for patients at home. After Office Hours: Please leave a message on the extension number of our Pastor, Rev. Juan J. Sosa. Fr. Carlos Cabrera & Deacon Roberto Pineda visit the patients at Mount Sinai hospital every Thursday morning. Also, St. Patrick s Church has lay ministers who bring Communion to the sick in Mount Sinai. If you or someone you know is hospitalized and would like to receive Communion, please inform the hospital of your Catholic affiliation.
