4 INVITATION TO THE 7th EUROPEAN FORUM ON ECO-INNOVATION EUROPEAN COMMISSION DIRECTORATE-GENERAL ENVIRONMENT Directorate G - Sustainable Development and Integration ENV.G - Director Subject: Invitation to the 7th European Forum on Eco-Innovation Brussels, 09 September 2009 ENV.G.3 Ares(2009) Dear, It is my pleasure to invite you to contribute in the 7 th European Forum on Eco- Innovation, to be held in Copenhagen (Denmark) on November The European Forum brings together business and policy perspectives and explores strategic orientations for eco-innovation and environmental technologies, in support of the EU Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP). The theme for the Forum is: Adapting to Climate Change through Eco- Innovation It is now clear that despite global efforts some degree of climate change is unavoidable. Decisions on how best to adapt to climate change must be based on solid scientific and economic analysis. It is therefore important to increase the understanding of climate change and the impacts it will have as well as to identify effective measures to help adapt to these impacts. The objective of the Forum is to take stock of the level of understanding of climate change adaptation in the EU and beyond, present and debate good practice examples of technologies and innovative solutions from public and private actors and organisations that are taking action to address the effects of climate change, and make recommendations as to how can adaptation issues be integrated into policy making. This Forum is organised jointly by the Danish Ministry for the Environment and the European Commission, Directorate-General Environment. The 7 th European Forum on Eco-innovation will consist of: Plenary sessions featuring presentations from prominent speakers from policy making, academics businesses and civil society, Case-studies of adaptation strategies from across economic sectors and geographic locations, Moderated sessions and working tables seeking recommendations on specific topics.

The European Forum brings together business and policy perspectives and explores strategic orientations for eco-innovation and environmental technologies, in support of the EU Environmental

5 Innovative methods (incl. café-style discussions) to enable delegate participation will be used during the forum to share experiences and help influence European policies. Framework of the Forum: The European Eco-Innovation Forums are platforms for discussion, debate and interaction between relevant stakeholders towards common objectives and actions. The Forums regularly take place in the same place as major European environmental events. This time the European Forum on Eco-Innovation will take place on the eve of United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-15) which will seek to reach a global agreement on CO2 mitigation post So far six Eco-innovation Forums have taken place. 14 El proyecto ECO-EFICIENCIA, coordinado en Aragón por la Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Zaragoza, conecta a desempleados, trabajadores y empresas para reducir el impacto ambiental de las empresas. El objetivo es la aplicación de buenas prácticas y mejores técnicas disponibles para la optimización económica derivada de las mejoras ambientales en las PYMES. Sus objetivos son: - Favorecer mediante procesos de cualificación conjunta de trabajadores, desempleados y empresas, la aplicación de medidas de eco-eficiencia en PYMES para contribuir en la lucha contra el cambio climático. - Vincular, a su vez, esta metodología como estrategia de valorización de la formación profesional ocupacional y continua en beneficio del empleo a través de la demostración de ahorros económicos y la reducción de emisiones de CO2 en la empresa. - Potenciar perfiles profesionales adaptados a los nuevos requerimientos medioambientales y a la evolución del mercado de trabajo incidiendo de forma simultánea sobre trabajadores, empresas y desempleados. Se abre la inscripción para un nuevo ciclo de formación online en materia de ECO- EFICIENCIA, destinado a todos los públicos, tanto desempleados, empleados, como estudiantes.
