The infinitive means the verb is not yet conjugated; it doesn't yet agree with a subject. The ar, er, or ir is still part of the verb. Example: mirar = to look at correr = to run describir = to describe When we omit the ar, er, or ir endings and replace them with another ending, we have conjugated the verb. We have made the verb agree with the subject of the sentence. Example: Yo miro el cielo. I look at the sky. In the above sentence, yo is the subject and miro is the conjugated verb. Also, notice that the root of the word did not change. We simply replaced the ar with o and formed another word, making it agree with the subject yo I. If only the ending of a verb changes, the verb is called a regular verb.
