1 May 2, 2016 Dear Parents/Guardians: I regret to inform you that your son/daughter has failed two or more core subjects for the year. Core subjects consist of Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Since your child has failed, your child will possibly be retained. This decision will be based on the Tyler Independent School District s local policy which states: In grades 1-8, promotion to the next grade level shall be based on an overall average of 70 on a scale of 100 based upon course-level, grade-level standards (essential knowledge and skills) for all subject areas and a grade of 70 or above in three of the following areas: language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Your child will have an opportunity to attend Summer School at from June 8, 2016 through June 20, Your child must attend each day (Monday Friday) from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and complete required work. Students must make a 70 or above in each class to receive credit. Students are not allowed to miss more than one day of school. If the student successfully completes the summer school courses, a committee will convene to discuss your student in detail and possibly promote to the next grade. Students will be required to be in school uniform. Students will also be provided a breakfast from 7:45-8:00 and a lunch from 12:00-12:15. Bus transportation will be provided for students who are outside of a two mile radius of the school. 2 Summer School Guidelines I. Tyler ISD Middle School Dress Code applies for all summer school students A. School uniforms are required 1. Polo-style Collared Shirts a. Any color choice-solid only, no designs b. Shirt must be tucked in at all times 2. Docker-Style Pants, Capri's, Shorts, and Skirts a. Khaki, Navy Blue, Black-Must be knee-length, no shorter than three inches above the knee b. No Denim or Stretch Jean Material, Worn No Lower than Top of Hips 3. No Sandals, Flip Flops, or Slippers (house shoes) II. The Tyler ISD Student Code of Conduct applies for all summer school students A. All campus and district rules will be strictly enforced B. Students may not miss more than 1 day of summer school C. Students tardy 3 times will count as an absence D. Students MUST be picked up before 12:15 p.m. daily or will be considered tardy III. Students can be dismissed from summer school with no possibility of promotion. IV. Students are required to participate in class, complete work and show mastery of the content.
