2 Remember that direct objects answer the questions who Or what about the verb. Remember that direct object pronouns are used to avoid repetition.

3 Notice the direct object in the following sentence. Él tiene ropa de invierno. He has winter clothes.

4 Notice that the direct object is replaced by a direct object pronoun. Él tiene ropa de invierno. Él la tiene.

5 Remember that the direct object pronoun preceeds the verb. Él la tiene.

6 Remember, when there are 2 verbs the direct object pronoun can come before the 1st verb. Él puede jugar al tennis. Él lo puede jugar.

7 Remember, when there are 2 verbs the direct object pronoun can also be attached to the infinitive. Él puede jugar al tennis. Él puede jugarlo.

8 Indirect objects are nouns that answer the questions to whom/what or for whom/ what. Yo compro una jarra a mi amiga.

9 Singular indirect object pronouns: me = me te = you (familiar) le = you(formal), him,her

10 Plural indirect object pronouns: nos= us os = you (familiar) les = you, them

11 Note: the indirect object pronouns are the same as the direct object pronouns with the exception of le and les.

12 Indirect object pronouns can replace or accompany indirect objects. Yo le compro una jarra. Yo le compro una jarra a mi amiga.

13 The placement of indirect object pronouns is exactly the same as direct object pronouns.

14 When there is 1 verb in a sentence the indirect object is placed before the verb. Ana le da el libro.

15 When there are 2 verbs in a sentence the indirect object can be placed before the verb, or be attached to the infinitive. Ana le puede dar el libro. Ana puede darle el libro.

16 Le and les may refer to different indirect objects, so the following construction is used at the end of the sentence to clarify: a + name/noun/pronoun

17 a + name/noun/pronoun Yo le compro una jarra a mi amiga.

18 To add emphasis the following construction is used at the beginning of the sentence. a + pronoun

19 a + pronoun A mí me compro una jarra.

20 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Yo doy una pluma a tí. I am giving you a pen. Yo te doy una pluma. Yo te doy una pluma a tí.

21 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Ana da el regalo a su abuela. Ana gives the gift to her grandmother. Ana le da el regalo. Ana le da el regalo a su abuela.

22 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Él da los libros a su amigo. He is giving the books to his friend. Él le da los libros. Él le da los libros a su amigo.

23 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Jo y yo damos la camisa a él. Jo and I are giving the shirt to him. Jo y yo le damos la camisa. Jo y yo le damos la camisa a él.

24 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Tú das el dinero a mí. You give the money to me. Tú me das el dinero. Tú me das el dinero a mí.

25 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Ellos dan las joyas a sus hijos. They give jewelry to their children. Ellos les dan las joyas. Ellos les dan las joyas a sus hijos.

26 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Yo compro una bolsa a ella. I am buying a bag for her. Yo le compro una bolsa. Yo le compro una bolsa a ella.

27 Replace the indirect object with a pronoun. Yo compro pizza a nosotros. I am buying pizza for us. Yo nos compro pizza. Yo nos compro pizza a nosotros.
