2 SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD 2 JANUARY 1, 2017 Take the Gospel home with you! Share a conversation with the family on the car ride home or at dinner tonight. Happy New Year! As we look towards new opportunities and moments for 2017, let s remember that today is the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. We are always welcome to tell Mary about our daily struggles and ask her to pray for us because she loves us and will intercede with a mother's heart. She also went through many trials in her life and can understand us. As we see in the 2nd reading, we are sons and daughters of God. Through Baptism, God adopts us into His family. Therefore we are free to call God our Father and Mary our mother. As part of God s family, we are called to serve Him with love. With all that we know about God s love and mercy, how do we act? Do we tell others about Him or do we keep everything related to faith to ourselves? Look at how the shepherds in the Gospel reacted when they found Jesus. They did not keep this Good News to themselves but instead returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. Share as a family: When was the last time you learned about something so exciting you wanted to tell everyone? What was it? Why did the shepherds feel that way about baby Jesus? How can we be more like the shepherds? When was the last time you talked about your faith with someone at work or school? Is it difficult to talk about faith when the other person is not strong in their faith? Where in your life can you start talking about your faith more? To begin: Think of one person in your life who really needs you to talk with about God. Now talk with him or her this week. It can be a call, a visit, or even a text message. Let s make a resolution for this new year to be more like the shepherds, and praise God both in church and outside it to the world. Traiga el Evangelio a casa! Mientras pensamos en las nuevas oportunidades y momentos para 2017, recordemos que hoy es la Solem- nidad de Santa Maria, Madre de Dios. Siempre somos bienvenidos en decirle nuestras dificultades diarias a María y pedir su intercesión por nosotros porque ella nos ama y intercederá con el corazón de una madre. Ella también sufrió muchas dificultades en su vida y nos puede entender. Como vemos en la Segunda Lectura, somos hijos e hijas de Dios. Por el Bautismo, Dios nos adopta en Su familia. Así podemos llamar a Dios, nuestro Padre, y a María, nuestra madre. Como parte de la familia de Dios, somos llamados a servirle con amor. Con todo lo que sabemos del amor y misericordia de Dios, cómo actuamos? Proclamamos Su nombre a los demás o nos quedamos quietos sobre el tema de fe? Mira como los pastores del Evangelio reaccionaron cuando encontraron a Jesús. No guardaron estas Buenas Noticias para sí mismos, sino que se volvieron a sus campos, alabando y glorificando a Dios por todo cuanto habían visto y oído. Compartan como una familia: Cuándo fue la última vez en que aprendiste algo tan emocionante que querías contarlo a todos? Qué era? Por qué sentían así los pastores sobre el bebé Jesús? Cómo podemos ser más como los pastores? Cuándo fue la última vez en que hablaste sobre tu fe con alguien en el trabajo o en la escuela? Es difícil hablar de la fe cuando la otra persona no tiene una fe muy fuerte? En tu vida, dónde puedes empezar a hablar más de tu fe? Para empezar: Piensa en una persona en tu vida que te necesita mucho para hablar juntos sobre Dios. Ahora, habla con él o ella esta semana. Puede ser una llamada, una visita, o aún un mensaje de texto. Hagamos una resolución para este año nuevo para ser más como los pastores, alabando a Dios en la iglesia y también afuera para el mundo. Donations and intentions will be listed in the weekly newsletter. Altar flower donations are $40 for small flower arrangements and $70 for large ones. If you have received your First Communion, attend Mass regularly, and are in 5th grade or older (including adults), you should consider if God is calling you to serve as an Altar Server at Mass! No prior experience is necessary. The School Office will be closed December 19 - January 2.
