Check your answers Saying What You Are Going to Do: The Verb ir Grammar Summary Unidad 2 Etapa 3 In Spanish, when you want to talk about what you are going to do in the future, you may use ir + a + infinitive. I am going to study = Voy a estudiar. You are going to read = Vas a leer. She is going to listen = Va a escuchar. And so on. There is another way to talk about the future that you will learn later. Conjugation of -ER and -IR Verbs in Present Indicative Tense Remember this? You have been practicing it since the Etapa Preliminar. This is the "official" introduction. Should be a piece of cake for you now. -ER VERBS like COMER-to eat

6 I eat = como You (fam.) eat = comes He, she, it, You (formal) eat = come We eat = comemos You (fam. pl.) eat = coméis They, you (pl.) eat = comen -IR VERBS like VIVIR-to live I live = vivo You (fam.) live = vives He, she, it, You (formal) live = vive We live = vivimos You (fam. pl.) live = vivís They, you (pl.) live = viven Regular Present Tense Verbs with Irregular Yo Forms Verbs like these are regular in every respect except that the yo form has some kind of spelling change in the stem of the verb (the part before the ending). It is very important to learn these verbs because verb tenses you will learn next year are based on the yo present tense form of the verb. CONOCER - to know a person or place I know = conozco You (fam.) know = conoces He, she, You (formal) know = conoce We know = conocemos You (fam. pl.) know = conocéis They, you (pl.) know = conocen HACER - to do, to make I do = hago You (fam.) do = haces He, she, it, You (formal) do/does = hace We do = hacemos You (fam. pl.) do = hacéis They, you (pl.) do = hacen The Verb OIR - to hear This verb, like those above also has in irregular yo form. It also has spelling changes in some of its other forms. OIR - to hear I hear = oigo You (fam.) hear = oyes He, she, it, You (formal) hear = oye We hear = oimos You (fam. pl.) hear = oís They, you (pl.) hear = oyen Homework done during class time will not be accepted. Homework will only be accepted on the day it is due unless the student has a legitimate excused reason. The missed assignment deadline for a legitimate absence is 2 days. Homework may be collected and graded from time to time. Homework assignments may often be material for a quiz the next day. The missed exam/quiz deadline is 5 days from the date of the exam/quiz and is given by appointment. The quiz grades will be based on announced and unannounced quizzes.
