MUSTANG NEWS MAY 2013 PRINCIPAL S PRESPECTIVE Mustang Families, Thank you for an AMAZING year. We set out this year to get our families involved in more academic events. As a school we have made strides towards an even better partnership in the future. This year we held 62 events with 3910 family members in attendance compared to last year when 62 academic events were offered and 1811 people were in attendance. Next year, we hope for even more involvement. AMAZING STAFF This year teachers worked together as a team to make progress towards improving AIMS scores in reading, writing, and math. We will continue the quest next year. Great job, Mrs. Dale, for organizing the AIMS testing week. We were able to have 100% of our students finish the test! The Mustang Team is proud to congratulate Ms. Megan Larson, Flowing Wells Junior High School 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year representative. She teaches 8 th grade social studies here at FWJHS. Eighth grade parents must pay particular attention to the date of the 8 th Grade Promotion Dance Friday, May 17 th. The hours of the dance are 6:00-8:30pm. We are firm in our expectation that students and parents not treat this like a high school prom no risqué clothing, no limousines. Parents, please work with us to ensure we don t have limos. Save it for the high school. Mr. Ruiz, Student Council sponsor, has written an article for this newsletter detailing the expectations for this 8 th grade dance that each parent and student should read. May 21-23 are early release days for the Junior High. Students will complete their final exams during class these days. The last day of school is Thursday, May 23 rd. Students must have all textbooks and uniforms turned in before the last day of school. Also, all class fees and cafeteria balances must be paid before the last day of school. Students will not be issued a Certificate of Promotion if they have any outstanding fees or materials owed. 8 th graders will not be permitted to register for high school without this Certificate and 7 th graders will have the over-due amount carried over to next year. The best thing to do is to take care of it all before May 17 th. Report cards will be mailed home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Please check your child s report card. Any student receiving an F on a semester grade will be required to attend the extended school year, Summer Learning Lab, a six-week program for reading, math, social studies, and science. Students are welcome to attend this program if he/she is interested in helping keep their skills sharp. Contact Mr. Valles or Mrs. Dale in the front office. Summer Registration Returning 8 th graders and incoming 7 th graders, on July 23 rd, 24 th, and 25 th we will have open registration. So plan accordingly. Packets will be mailed home the week of July 1 st. If you have any questions please call the front office at 696-8552. Thank you to each parent and family member for supporting the Junior High s mission to provide an excellent educational experience for every student. Your involvement is the critical piece in ensuring your child s success. On behalf of everyone at FWJH, I wish you all a safe and enjoyable summer! It has been my privilege to work with you and your families over the past five years. I m sure Dr. Kim Parkinson will be a great new Mustang leader. She will be available this summer at 696-8555. Mr. Peter M. Wells Principal
