Did you know...? In our Art Studio, we encourage children to use the materials in any way they wish. We provide ideas that they may use to begin work but do not expect copies to be made. Children flourish in emotionally-safe environments that nurture creative expressions through artistic media. Research increasingly supports the link between rich art experiences and academic achievement. When talking with your child, make observations about color, shape, material, etc., such as, I see you are using red, or, I notice you are mixing the chalk with the glue -- how interesting! These kinds of statements will open the conversation for the child to tell you what it is all about. As your child experiments with art and learns to express him/herself through art, the experience enhances his/her social development and respect for others.
Did you know...? Art is about process, not product. It can be a powerful tool for communicating -- sometimes better than the spoken word. Although the Art Studio has many opportunities to create individual works of art, your child also can participate in larger community art activities. Your child s efforts become part of a much larger project than what s/he could accomplish on his/her own. Notice your child s reaction during your next visit to the Art Studio when s/he recognizes his/her contribution to that larger-scale project. During your visit in the Art Studio and when you create art at home, ask your child about his/her artwork. Be careful not to assume you know what s/he is creating. You could start by saying, Tell me the story of your painting, or, Share with me what you are making with the playdough. Praise is not necessary as genuine interest says so much more.

Sabía usted...? En nuestro Estudio de Arte animamos a los niños a utilizar los materiales como lo deseen. Les damos ideas que pueden usar para comenzar su obra, pero no esperamos que hagan copias. Los niños florecen en ambientes emocionalmente seguros que cultivan la expresión creativa a través de medios artísticos. Las investigaciones apoyan cada vez más la relación entre las experiencias artísticas y el logro académico. Cuando hable con sus hijos, comente sobre el color, la forma, el material, etc. Por ejemplo: Veo que estás usando el color rojo, o Noté que estás trabajando muy duro con tus manos para darle forma a la arcilla, o Ah, estás mezclando el gis con el pegamento, qué interesante! Este tipo de comentarios iniciará la conversación para que sus hijos le expliquen lo que están haciendo. A medida que sus hijos experimentan con el arte y aprenden a expresarse a través del mismo, la experiencia aumentará su desarrollo social y respeto hacia otros.
Sabía usted...? El arte se refiere al proceso, no al producto final. El arte puede ser una poderosa herramienta de comunicación que a veces es mejor que la palabra hablada. Aunque el Estudio de Arte ofrece muchas oportunidades para crear obras individuales de arte, sus hijos también pueden participar en actividades de arte comunitario más grandes. Los esfuerzos de sus hijos pueden ser parte de un proyecto mucho más grande que lo que ellos podrían lograr por su cuenta. En su próxima visita al Estudio de Arte, note cómo reaccionan sus hijos al reconocer su contribución a un proyecto de mayor escala. Cuando visiten el Estudio de Arte o cuando creen arte en casa, pídales a sus hijos que describan su obra. No asuma que usted sabe lo que están creando. Usted podría empezar diciéndoles: Platícame la historia de tu pintura, o Qué estás haciendo con la plastilina? No es necesario halagarlos. Mostrar interés genuino es mucho más importante.
