DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CURSO En este curso, los estudiantes revisarán y practicarán estructuras gramaticales así como también enriquecerán su léxico en temas relacionados con el mundo de negocios y la negociación. Los estudiantes practicarán las cuatro habilidades (comprensión escrita y auditiva, producción oral y escrita) a un nivel de suficiencia. Habrá especial énfasis tanto en la precisión como en la fluidez. 3. GENERAL OBJECTIVES Students will master all four language skills on a high intermediate level. They will have specialized knowledge in business terminology and be well informed about the issues related to business and economics. Students will be able to express their opinion about these issues in spoken as well as written English. 1
4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 4.1. WRITING Students will be able to practice writing paragraphs, letters: confirmation, enquiry and reply, complaint and apology, e mails, faxes, business memos, minutes of a meeting, short reports, résumés, press releases, and opinion essays. They will review: punctuation rules, abbreviations and some differences between American English and British English. 4.2. READING Students will be able to understand authentic business and economic texts. 4.3. SPEAKING Students will be able to perform business presentations, simulation meetings, discussions, give opinions, analyze dilemmas and make decisions. 4.4. LISTENING Students will be able to understand authentic business and economic texts. TOPIC RANGE: Students will work paying attention to alliances, corporate culture, stocks, shares and mergers; projects, team working, information technology, and advertising:, as well as promotion, product demonstration, public relations, law, brands, corporate identity, exclusivity and positioning. CAREER SKILLS: Students will analyze and understand working relationships, deadlines, information exchanges, tasks, bargaining and dealing with people at work. 5. CONTENTS There will be an ongoing reinforcement of all parts of speech, grammar tenses and sentence structure through constant monitoring of writing and speaking activities. Special emphasis will be put on business expressions followed by certain prepositions and structures. The following items will be considered as very important: 2

METHODOLOGY The course uses a Communicative approach with emphasis on business situations. The class is student - centered, in other words, students are expected to read, investigate, write and present their ideas and work in speaking and writing activities so that learning can take place. The teacher acts as a guide, s/he selects the material and prepares the activities for each class. Language is looked upon as an entire unit, therefore, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are taught in context rather than in parts. There will be specific emphasis on the acquisition of Business English lexicon. 3
