It has been determined that the first day of school for the 2014-2015 school year will be Wednesday, August 27, 2014. The FUSD school calendar is available on the district and Weibel website. Medications for 2014-2015 School Year Students needing medication at school must have the proper district paperwork on file. A parent may pick up the MEDICATION AT SCHOOL Form D in the school office. It may also be downloaded from the FUSD website. This includes an order from your child's doctor and your signature authorizing medication to be given. All medications must come in their original container (this includes over-the-counter) and if it is a prescription medication it must include the original pharmacy label. It is your responsibility to keep track of when your student's medication expires and to replace it when necessary. As a reminder, your student should not be carrying medication on their person without the proper paperwork and verification that they are responsible to do so. If you have any questions, please call the school office. Attention Parents of 6 th Grade Students: For the 2014 / 2015 school year, California Law (AB 354) requires an additional immunization called Tdap in order for your student to advance to or enter 7 th grade. The adolescent whooping cough/pertussis booster shot, (Tdap) must be given on or after age 7 to meet this requirement. Valid proof must show: 1) type of shot given, 2) date, 3) provider s signature/stamp. You can provide proof to your Elementary School Site up until the last day of school. If parents have not provided proof to their school by the first day of school, August 27, 2014, your student will NOT be allowed to attend. MAZE DAY This is a friendly reminder to keep the MAZE DAY in your summer planning. We typically have registered about 65% of the school on that day. We look forward to you attending the MAZE Day. Child Nutrition Price Increase Please be informed that effective the school year 2014-15, reduced meals have been removed from all elementary and secondary schools. There will only be free meals and paid meals. Effective the school year 2014-15, the cost of paid lunch meals at the Elementary Schools will be $3.00.
Alameda County Library Summer Reading Games Summer is coming soon! Once again, the Alameda County Library is offering a special Summer Reading Game to encourage children to keep reading during summer vacation. This year s game is PAWS TO READ! In addition to the Summer Reading Game, all branches (Albany, Bookmobile, Castro Valley, Centerville, Dublin, Fremont Main, Irvington, Newark, Niles, San Lorenzo, and Union City) will be hosting special programs (storytellers, puppeteers, etc) throughout the summer. As you know, children who practice their reading skills over summer break return to school better equipped to continue with their studies. The game runs from June 9 August 9. Press Release Fremont Unified School District Adopts New Math Programs On May 7, 2014, the Fremont Board of Education unanimously voted to adopt new math programs for grades kindergarten through eight. Numerous math programs were evaluated by the Fremont USD 2014 Math Adoption Committee. Over 60 teachers and administrators worked collaboratively, over a series of meetings spanning two months, to evaluate potential texts in the areas of: assessment, alignment to the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the digital component, supports for English learners, students with disabilities and instruction in higher mathematics. Community input was also solicited. Based on the findings from the evaluation, the programs that best fit the needs for the students of Fremont Unified School District are: Math Expressions ((2105) by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for grades K-5, and Springboard Math (2014) by the College Board for grades 6-8 All teachers will receive professional development in the summer to help prepare them for the new adoption. All student texts are consumable which will result in a lighter load in backpacks. Families will receive digital access codes to the student online component in the fall. Algebra 1 is under review and the final recommendation will be presented to the Board of Education in July.
Comunicado de Prensa El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Fremont Adopta Programas Nuevos de Matemáticas El 7 de mayo de 2014 el Consejo de Educación de Fremont votó por unanimidad adoptar los programas nuevos de matemáticas para el kinder al octavo grado. El Comité de Adopción de Matemáticas para 2014 del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Fremont evaluó varios programas de matemáticas. Más de 60 maestros y administradores trabajaron conjuntamente, durante una serie de juntas en el transcurso de dos meses, para evaluar textos potenciales en las áreas de: evaluación, alineación a los nuevos Estándares Básicos Comunes del Estado (CCSS por sus siglas en inglés), componente digital, apoyos para los estudiantes de inglés y estudiantes con discapacidades e instrucción de altas matemáticas. También se solicitó la opinión de la comunidad. De acuerdo a esta evaluación, los programas que mejor se ajustan a las necesidades de los estudiantes del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Fremont son: Math Expressions ((2105) por Houghton Mifflin Harcourt para los grados K-5 y Springboard Math (2014) por College Board para los grados 6-8 Todos los maestros recibirán capacitación profesional en el verano para prepararlos para la adopción nueva.
