They are used in sentences where a subject is compared to a group of objects. -The old ship was the biggest on the entire sea. -Barry Allen, The Flash, is known as the fastest man alive. -A typical flu is the most common illness and the least serious one. According to the number of syllables on the adjective in between the nouns, the form of the adjective could change. Long Longest Short Shortest -If the adjective has a consonant + single vowel + consonant spelling, the final consonant must be doubled before adding the ending: Big Biggest Red Reddest Fat Fattest B) If we use Two Syllables word (Adjective): -In case of adjectives with two syllables, these can form the superlative either by adding est or by preceeding the adjective with most or least. Now, in many cases, both forms are used, although one usage could be more common than the other could: Busy Busiest Happy Happier Peaceful Least/Most Peaceful Thoughtful Least/Most Thoughtful *(For adjectives ending in y, change the y to an I before adding the ending).
