Smith Our New Pastor St. Joachim St. John, Beacon CYO Basketball Registration Registration for the 2011-2012 Basketball Season will be held on Mon., 9/12 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, 9/15 from 6:30 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9/17 from 10:00-11:30 a.m., at St. GYM, 61 Leonard St., Beacon. The program is open to children in grades 1-8. The registration fee is $90.00 for the first child, with a maximum Family fee of $ 150.00. We offer both an In-House and Travel Program. Birth Certificates and Baptismal Certificates are required for Travel Players. An Instructional Girls League for those in grades 1-4 will depend on enrollment and volunteers to run the Division. Registration forms may also be obtained on the Parish Web site at www.stjoachim-stjohn.org, and must be mailed with payment by 9/30/2011. Farewell Mass and Reception for Father Nolan Father Nolan will celebrate Mass on Sunday, September 18 at 3 pm at St. Joachim's. All are invited. The dinner at Dutchess Manor following the Mass is sold out. For those unable to attend the dinner, there will be a small reception in the parish hall immediately following the Mass. To serve your needs better, our pastor would like to know: - Of any parishioner who is hospitalized - Of anyone in need of prayer - Of anyone who would like a pastoral visit Our parish priests and the Special Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Eucharist to our ill parishioners. The Sacraments of the Sick and Reconciliation are also available from our priests on their visits. If you or someone you know is in need of the Sacraments, please call the parish office. Through the Outreach Program Parish Volunteers provide supportive and practical services for seniors and other persons who are in need. These include friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, shopping, and local medical transportation/escort. Drivers are needed for the Outreach Program for doctor s appointments. R.C.I.A. - Evangelization is Everyone s Responsibility We are asking all our parishioners to invite their non-catholic friends who are interested in learning about the Catholic faith along with all Catholic adults who wish to complete their Sacraments of Initiation to an evening of fellowship and information at 7pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in St. parish hall. Collecting School Supplies The St. Vincent de Paul Society will be collecting school supplies for needy students in the area books, crayons, pencils, backpacks, etc may be left in the back of the churches. Thank you. Astor Early Childhood Program is currently accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year. Astor has openings in its Head Start program for pre-school children who will be 3 by December 1, 2011 and in Early Head Start for pregnant woman and children from birth to three. Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs that offer a quality educational program to low-income families and children at 7 locations in Dutchess County. Former Eucharistic Ministers We are asking all former Eucharistic Ministers to return any pyxes they may have in their possession that belong to the parish. The pyxes may be returned to the parish office, or they may be left on the counter in either sacristy. Thank you. Cupcake Competition September 16th & 17th at St. Joachim's Gym and the First Presbyterian Church. Tickets for viewing and visiting vendors will be available at St. Joachim's - St. John's Parish Office at a greatly discounted price. Demonstration tickets may be purchased at an additional cost. For information and description of demonstrations and classes go to www.shavkin.com. All details of the day are available at that website. A light breakfast and lunch at a modest cost will be available. St. Joachim's - St. John's will be hosting the kitchen. The First Presbyterian Church will be hosting the competition. Come and enjoy an affordable day of Cupcake Heaven and consider registering for a class. Religious Education Registration Registration for the 2011-2012 School year is now being accepted. Forms are available in the parish office, located at 2 Oak Street, or on the parish website www.stjoachim-stjohn.org. If you would like to have a form mailed to you or you have additional questions about the Religious Education Program please contact either Fr. Fabian or Anne at the Parish Office, 838-0915. Classes will resume on Sunday, September 18, 2011. All students, both new and returning, must have a completed registration form on file to start class in September. First through seventh grade classes are held at St. school on Sunday mornings at either 8:30 or 10:15. Students starting eighth grade in September of 2011 should have already been contacted by their group leader. If you have not been contacted, please call Anne Danza in the Parish Office. Please register early to insure that you are able to get your first choice of time slot. Children entering eighth grade this September will receive information in the mail over the summer regarding the community service program they will be participating in. High School Students Save the date and plan to come to a Renew & Refresh Retreat at Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries in Garrison, NY. This retreat is open to all high school aged students. It offers relaxing, social time with CYFM community members before school begins. The retreat provides solid material relevant to Faith, Church and God that can be used in everyday life. This year s theme is Pope John Paul II s Theology of the Body. The retreat takes place on Friday, Sept 2nd at 7:00 pm through Sunday, Sept. 4th at 2:00 pm. Additional information will follow. Catechists/Catechist Aides Needed To assist with our Religious Education program, September through May. Volunteers must have received Confirmation. Those interested, please contact the Parish Office. Radio City Christmas Spectacular The parish is sponsoring a trip to see the Radio City Christmas Show on Sunday, December 11, 2011. LECTURAS PARA EL DIA DE HOY: 1 Lectura: Ez 33,7-9: Si no hablas al malvado, te pediré cuenta de su sangre. 2 Lectura Rom 13,8-10: La plenitud de la Ley es el amor. Evangelio Mt 18,15-20: Ve y corrígele; tú y él a solas. «Si tu hermano llega a pecar, vete y repréndele, a solas tú con él» Hoy, el Evangelio propone que consideremos algunas recomendaciones de Jesús a sus discípulos de entonces y de siempre. También en la comunidad de los primeros cristianos había faltas y comportamientos contrarios a la voluntad de Dios. El versículo final nos ofrece el marco para resolver los problemas que se presenten dentro de la Iglesia durante la historia: «Donde están dos o tres reunidos en mi nombre, allí estoy yo en medio de ellos». Jesús está presente en todos los períodos de la vida de su Iglesia, su Cuerpo místico animado por la acción incesante del Espíritu Santo. Somos siempre hermanos, tanto si la comunidad es grande como si es pequeña. «Si tu hermano llega a pecar, vete y repréndele, a solas tú con él. Si te escucha, habrás ganado a tu hermano». Qué bonita y leal es la relación de fraternidad que Jesús nos enseña! Ante una falta contra mí o hacia otro, he de pedir al Señor su gracia para perdonar, para comprender y, finalmente, para tratar de corregir a mi hermano. Hoy no es tan fácil como cuando la Iglesia era menos numerosa. Pero, si pensamos las cosas en diálogo con nuestro Padre Dios, Él nos iluminará para encontrar el tiempo, el lugar y las palabras oportunas para cumplir con nuestro deber de ayudar. Es importante purificar nuestro corazón. San Pablo nos anima a corregir al prójimo con intención recta: «Cuando alguno incurra en alguna falta, vosotros, los espirituales, corregidle con espíritu de mansedumbre, y cuídate de ti mismo, pues también tú puedes ser tentado». El afecto profundo y la humildad nos harán buscar la suavidad. «Obrad con mano maternal, con la delicadeza infinita de nuestras madres, mientras nos curaban las heridas grandes o pequeñas de nuestros juegos y tropiezos infantiles». Así nos corrige la Madre de Jesús y Madre nuestra, con inspiraciones para amar más a Dios y a los hermanos. ORACION: Dios, como Fuerza suprema de la Vida, que suscita el caos y promueve la convergencia de todo hacia nuevas formas de Ser y de Vida. Danos imitar tu magnanimidad y tu tolerancia, que todo lo hace concurrir finalmente al Bien. Danos espíritu de comprensión y libertad, para que sepamos siempre perdonar y rescatar para el bien a todos nuestros hermanos. Nosotros te lo pedimos por Jesús, tu hijo, nuestro hermano. AMEN.
