Mike Barry For a complete list of healing masses in our area visit: www.charismaticsandiego.com If You Want God to Laugh, Make Plans! To let go is to release a God of surprises. In looking over our lives, we must note that we like to exercise control and thus determine our own future. We also prefer to regulate our own destiny and thus shape our own possibilities. We thus take care to manipulate the course of events and so assure their happy outcome. So we find it exceedingly difficult to let God enter our lives and direct the course of future events. Yet to let go is to release a God of surprises. Earlier in the Acts of the Apostles, Luke speaks of Jesus' death in terms of God's set purpose and plan (2:23). Jesus' letting go releases a chain of events beyond human capacity to control. In today's first reading death ushers in resurrection, and rejection yields to glorification. Jesus as the stone rejected by the builders symbolizes God's ability to turn around the greatest human folly. According to Luke's theology, to let go is to release a God of surprises. In today;s gospel Jesus as the ideal shepherd does not drink from laying down his life for his sheep. This laying down of life on the part of Jesus is a free act that fulfills the Father's will. By opening himself up to death, Jesus makes it possible to rise again. To surrender himself to the Father's will, to let go, is to be assured of the Father's love. For John, to let go is to release a God of surprises. This understanding of Jesus speaks of the closeness of the Lord to all who follow him and respond to his call. Talk about what kinds of things a shepherd does for his sheep. If Jesus is our shepherd, how does he feel about us? What will he do for us? How are we to feel about him? Jr. High Youth group: May 3, 3:30-5pm Come and bring a friend! Gracias.
