2 Message From the Principal November 2015 Dear Parents, It is hard to believe that we are already two weeks away from our second quarter midterm! The school year is going so fast and smoothly due to our parents, students, and staff. We would like to thank all the parents who came to visit us during our S/P/T Conferences this past month. Our faculty appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and your child. By working together, we can ensure a successful educational experience for your child. Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their child s education do better in school. We would also like to thank our Wauconda Middle School PTO for providing us with a wonderful dinner on Wednesday evening during conferences. Our 8 th grade students will be taking the EXPLORE test on Monday, November 16 th. All of our 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students will take their winter NWEA MAP test during the first week of December. The EXPLORE test, along with NWEA MAP scores, are utilized by the high school to assist with student placement. Please remind your students of the importance of these tests. You can assist with preparation by making sure your child gets a good night sleep, receives a healthy breakfast, and reports to school on time. We would like to congratulate Sarah Rizzo who qualified for the Girl s IESA State Cross Country meet! I would once again like to encourage your children to become active members in an extracurricular activity. Getting involved is one of the key components of a successful middle school experience, and research shows that staying connected to your school helps to build assets to make good choices outside of school. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to balance commitments and begin to manage what can become a too-busy schedule. These lessons are best learned in the early years, where there are many adults around to help them through it. We need your help! Our #1 Office Discipline Referral is tardy to school. If you drop your child off at school or your child is a walker, please assist by making sure that your child arrives to school prior to 7:45 a.m. on Monday Thursday and 8:45 a.m. on Friday s to ensure that your child can report to their homeroom and/or 1 st period class by the time the first bell rings. Thank you in advance for your cooperation is this matter. Sincerely, Daniel Stoller

9 NURSE NOTES NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER All 8 th grade students received a vision screening and/or had their glasses checked. If your child should be wearing glasses/contacts at school, please remind him/her to bring them and wear them. A referral notice was mailed home to those students who did not pass the screening or whose glasses were not in good condition. If you received this notice, please contact your eye doctor at your earliest convenience to schedule an appointment for your child. Return the completed vision examination report to me after the doctor visit. Impaired vision can impede learning and contribute to the development of emotional and behavioral problems. Discovery and treatment of vision problems can prevent or alleviate many problems associated with impaired vision. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. As a reminder, the use of medication, including inhalers, requires a completed medication form on file for your child. Medication may not be taken or carried without this completed form. In addition, I do not supply any medication for your child s use. You must provide any medication along with a completed medication form. If you have any questions, please contact me. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving holiday! Mrs. Bonnie Frey, RN

Coles Wauconda Grade Robert Crown Cotton Creek Wauconda Middle Matthews Middle Wauconda High Associate Superintendent Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent Business Services, CSBO Curriculum & Instruction Human Resources Special Services Technology Services William Harkin Dr. David Wilm Cameron Willis Valerie Donnan Scott Cittadino Dear Parents: Emergency Early Dismissal Procedures Due to Severe Winter Weather In the event of severe winter weather occurring during the school day, it may be necessary to dismiss the students housed at Wauconda Middle School, Matthews Middle School and Wauconda High School earlier than usual. The reason this action would be taken is to allow the buses an opportunity to drop off these older students in order to return in time to take the younger elementary students at Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown School and Cotton Creek School home according to their regular dismissal schedule. If this early dismissal was not done, we would run the risk of buses being unable to return the Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown and Cotton Creek students to their homes, or very late drop off for these same students. In addition, we hope to avoid buses driving in a snowstorm when it is dark. Parents of students in grades six through twelve need to be aware of the possibility that this situation could occur due to inclement winter weather. If it does, we would enact the SchoolMessenger Service in an attempt to notify you that your sixth through twelfth grade student was coming home early. As a result, we ask that you make appropriate arrangements with your sixth through twelfth grade student in order for them to gain access to shelter after being dismissed early due to weather conditions. This type of situation does not occur often, but if it does we wanted you to be informed of our actions so that you and your students can be prepared. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Dr. Daniel J. Coles Superintendent of Schools Learning For Life Building Partnerships For Success

Sinceramente, Dr. Daniel J. Coles Superintendente de Escuelas Learning For Life Building Partnerships For Success
