3 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 5, 2015 Ezekiel 2:2-5; 2 Cor 12:7-10; Mark 6:1-6 Psalm 123 Décimocuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 5 de Julio del 2015 Ezequiel 2:2-5; 2 Cor 12:7-10; Marcos 6:1-6 Salmo 123 [122] Dear Families: The true Prophet: In a biblical sense, a prophet is one who speaks in the name of God. God, through His prophets, enlightens the past, the present and future of human history; discloses the lessons in the divine plan, depicting the events of each day; announces God's saving plan; establishes rules for human behavior in its vertical and horizontal dimensions (God and man), while denouncing individual and social faults, with respect to God, as well as in relation to other men. The true prophet usually stimulates an adverse reaction, as God's plans are often unwelcome, among men. This was the case, as we see today, with the prophet Ezekiel (Ez 2:3-6), and the same with Jesus (Mark 6:1-6), who is rejected in his native place, by his own people. This is because we often do not want to hear God s voice, or follow his plan of salvation. Instead, we prefer our own plans, and easily follow a false prophet who flatters our ears, while we close our hearts to what God wants for our good. While loving the world we live in, we Christians, like Christ, should bear witness to the message of divine revelation, through our words and actions. This message surpasses the common aspirations of human beings, and is not in tune with the twisted inclinations and machinations of the world. Let us follow Jesus, even if sometimes it is costly; let us be His witnesses, even when we are not always welcomed. May God bless you. Father Celestino, Pastor Queridas Familias: El verdadero Profeta: En sentido bíblico, profeta es el que habla en nombre de Dios. Dios, a través de sus profetas, ilumina el pasado, el presente y porvenir de la historia humana; descubre las enseñanzas que en el plan divino muestran los acontecimientos de cada día; anuncia los designios salvíficos de Dios; establece las normas de conducta humana en su dimensión vertical y horizontal (Dios y los hombres), denunciando los fallos individuales y sociales, y lo mismo respecto a Dios que en relación con los demás hombres. El verdadero profeta, generalmente, provoca una reacción adversa. Los planes de Dios no son bien recibidos. Así sucede, como vemos hoy, con el profeta Ezequiel (Ez 2:3-6); y lo mismo con Jesús (Mc 6:1-6), que es rechazado en su propia tierra por los suyos. Y es que muchas veces no queremos oír la voz de Dios ni seguir su plan de salvación y preferimos los nuestros; y fácilmente seguimos a un falso profeta que halaga nuestros oídos y cerramos el corazón a lo que Dios quiere para nuestro bien. Los cristianos, como Cristo, aun amando al mundo en que vivimos, hemos de ofrecerle con la palabra y con el testimonio, el mensaje de la revelación divina. Este mensaje calma con creces las legítimas aspiraciones del ser humano; pero, de entrada, no sintoniza con las inclinaciones torcidas, ni con las inquietudes inconfesables del mundo. Sigamos a Jesús, aunque a veces nos cueste; seamos sus testigos, aunque a veces no seamos bien recibidos. Que Dios los bendiga. The St Jude Christian Meditation group shares the discipline and experience of silence, stillness and simplicity on Monday afternoon at 5:30 in the quiet room. We listen to a teaching in the tradition of the early desert mothers and fathers by Benedictines Laurence Freeman or John Main. There is a short taped talk on prayer of the heart and then a shared period of silence. All are invited!
